Well, the HH books are great. I had enjoyed all of them (with the exception of Descent of Angels. If i want to read a knightly novel i read fantasy). SW are only included in the last one at the side of the UM, a World Eater Captain and a Thousand Sons Librarian. The order is:

Horus Rising

False Gods

Galaxy in Flames

Flight of the Eisenstein

Fulgrim

Descent of Angels

Legion

Battle for the Abyss

The first three are fantastic. A must-read.

FotE was a good book but in the first quater a littlebit longbreathing written

Fulgrim was great, to see how the EC fall. It was written very well

DoA see my comment above

When i read Legion i got the impression the Alpharius himself had written this book. I think it is a must- read like the first three and Fulgrim

Battle for the Abyss was a good read but not that good like the first three or Fulgrim

And also interresting for a SW is the HH artbook. It includes a lot of nice pics (for those who want to build a pre-heresy army) and some interresting pieces of fluff and short stories (also about SW).

Well I'd say Horus Rising, False Gods, Galaxy in Flames and Flight of the Eisenstein are must reads. But the others, Legion I felt was pretty poor plot wise, the Alpha Legion turned traitor without any sort of compelling reason. Fulgrim wasn't bad but was rushed heavily and the Emperor's Children fall faster than a skydiver without a parachute and the end result leaves something to be desired. Descent of Angels and Battle for the Abyss are utterly unforgettable.

Battle for the Abyss is the only one that features a Space Wolf and for that it isn't bad but not worth reading just for the wolfy bits. If thats the case your better off reading the free excerpt on the Black Library's website and thats about the best SW part of the book...

Battle for the Abyss was one of the weakest novels I've read in a long time. The plot was empty, the characters were entirely undeveloped and the novel itself was just poorly written. The representation of SW in the novel is laughable as well. If you want BL books that represent the SW, stick with King's novels and pray that Abnett gets the go-ahead for the battle for prospero.
