Healing Potions and Balms

Well I can't find the darn topic that made me look this up again, but something about HP&B's allowing re-rolls of invulnerable saves and such. So I looked into it, I think lars pointed out it was in the previous FAQ and I agree with him as such and remember it myself.

"The potions will not work on a model that has suffered instant death (eg, is hit by a weapon whose Strength is twice the model's Toughness) or that has been hit by a weapon that allows no save."

So this would mean an invulnerable save can't be re-rolled, because power and AP weaponry allow no save, and double S allow no save, so in return you'd use your invulnerable, and if you failed then you can't reroll from HP&B's because of this line under the wargear rules for it.

I'm glad I found this, because I'm pretty sure my drop pod would have included a WP in TDA as well with HP&B just for that purpose... Then before combat that turn he'd break off and stomp another squad by himself. ;)

-edit-

After reading a post by lars (god you always have to change my mind I swear...), I have revoked part of my statement, you can re-roll for your invulnerable, cover, whatever if it doesn't fall in the gap that I posted above. (ex: bikes turbo'ing forward getting a 3+ inv. then getting shot at by bolters, since this isn't double S, and it allows a save, then you can use the inv. here) so I guess they're halfway better than before...

Thought it was just failed armour saves allowing a unit with a Wpriest to ignore the first failed armour save

but not if the WP was in base contact with enemy - meaning with the IC rules in combat the WP should be in base to base contact

D.

Not sure what your second statement is implying, I never said anything about the ignoring save is applying to combat, I know that if the WP is in BtB he can't use his balms, I made only references to shooting. :P

Also, your first statement is how the ruling was in a past FAQ (can't use Hp&B for inv. save ignores) but as you read my post you will notice I took an exert from the C:SW on the HP&B wargear section explaining that it's any failed save, not just armor. This doesn't work against double S or weapons that allow no save however. So your inv. save from turbo boosting bikes will benefit from HP&B. ^_^

Yeah, I actually had a discussion with my local blackshirt about this, as with the C: SM, the apothecary allowed them to ignore a failed ARMOR save, where as HP&B allowed you to ignore a failed SAVE (not specifically mentioning armor). So as long as you arent getting nailed by anything str8 or higher (str10 for bikes), then you can still make use of this for invuln saves. That's why I always threw a WP with HP&B on a bike in with my bike pack. At 25 pts for the upgrade, and bikers costing 30pts, a single ignored failed save this way pays for the points cost back right away. Just remember dangerous terrain doesnt allow a save of any kind, so it wont work with that....

Actually it's still S8 for bikes, because for double toughness rules you don't take into account the +1 from the bike, same thing occured with the obliterators in the old C:CSM.

Still as you mentioned, totally worth the 25 points.

Sorry think you saying "re-roll" got me confused with Runic Charms - hard day at work

I was wondering why I was so confused myself. :D You should learn to post AT work, so that way you're more refreshed and alert. :P

@Thylacine

Can you PM me what GW store you go to? I'd love to see when their next tournie is and participate with the full glory of my wolves and I'd LOVE, absolutely LOVE to see the manager try to stop me.

Thylacine, I want you to go get a copy of all the SW books from BL, all our Codeci, and for good measure any book with SW mentioned in it and put them all into a large burlap sack. Go then to your store with the Wulfensock and reeducate that filthy git on the subject of Space Wolves. Repeat if necessary. :devil: :lol:
