Perturabo - Primarch of the Iron Warriors...

Recommended Posts

Right, first of all please accept my apologies in regard to posting this topic in the Horus Heresy thread, as I can't think of where else it would go (so if it does get moved to a more appropriate topic thread, that's fine by me.)

Ok, so here's the plan, I'd like to create my own version of the Daemon Primarch, Perturabo of the Iron Warriors, for this I would use the torso and head of a Soul Grinder, and the legs of a "Fantasy Battles" Giant (heavily modified with Green Stuff, Plasti-card and any Space Marines Bits I can find lying around!).

What I would be interested in knowing are the following points:

1:Would he have wings or being a Primarch who's legion uses machines alot, would he have a rudimentary jump pack style device?

2: What would his weapons be, would he use a sword similar to the one as seen on the Soulgrinder (which I would modifiy to give it a sharp point more like a power sword) along with the Defiler claw on the opposite hand, or would he have his own style of weapons?

3: What style of armour would he wear, a type of Power Amour or would he be a form of Obliterator, actually merged with his armour?

4: Finally, use the Soul Grinder Head, or try to mould putty to make a style of Space Marine helmet?

I know there are numerous threads out there in regards to the Primarchs, and I could probably get some answers, but alot of them seem to give information more in their origins, and not as what they actually have in regards to weapons or equipment. So if any one has any thoughts in this, I'd love to hear them!.

Cheers.

Skaav.

Hi there, i think you put your thread in the right place. :HQ:

1) I think he'd have servo arms, possibly more than one with attached weapons maybe, not sure.

2) His weapons i would have thought would have been machine orientated. maybe a sword but more likely something like a thunderhammer or some sort of blunt impact weapon. He would probably would have had a combi-bolter and melta, seems in line with his style.

3) Perts armour i can see being something old, probably heavily modified to give him a unique look, the idea of him being fused to his armour i think could easily be a possiblity definately.

4) I think as he is a daemon primarch hes probably going to be deformed and huge so maybe a bare head, or maybe his head expanded rapidly in his helmet and parts of the helmet have fused with his skull, to leave his face exposed or something.

Hope that helps.

Pertarbaro had a massive hammer, called Forgebreaker. It was a gift from the Warmaster prior to the Heresy, and may or may not have been a Daemon Weapon (although that particular plot device is Fulgrims)

He is now elevated to a Daemon Prince, and rarely leaves his Citadel. His Armour and Weapons (bar the hammer) are likely to be fused with him a la an Obliterator.

Some interesting pointers for me to start with, I note that he rarely leaves his citadel, but would there be occasions where he feels the situation warrents his presence (I.E in apocalypse games would any one object to my using him, I know it's an "all in" sort of game, but I would like to gain my opponents permission at the time)

And I'm glad for any more information and opinions any one can think of in regards to my planned project.

Here you go, that's him as a "human" so I imagine a demonic version would look somewhat similar just with fangs, wings, and probably trapped souls in his armor since the warsmith from Storm of Iron had souls trapped in his armor and I imagine Perturabo would as well.

Forgebreaker was used by Ferrus Manus, Primarch of the Iron Hands. It was built for him by his brother Fulgrim who in return recieved the sword called Fireblade via Ferrus.

Which he this discarded soon after for a Daemon-possessed sword.

Perturabo was not corrupted by the Forge Breaker, well it might have helped but he was already plenty bitter and angry at the Emperor for using him to fight in some of the most difficult sieges and yet honoring Rogal Dorn far more for what Perturabo perceived as lesser work and piety.

Furthermore, the Iron Warriors are genetically predisposed to be skeptical and lacking in faith so they decided that the big E was using them and so joined Horus. Interestingly enough, Storm of Iron and the general behavior of the IW during the 13th Crusade points to the fact that they now also distrust Abaddon and therefore generally refuse to directly assist him. That said, they did fight the 10th Black Crusade but they must have had some reasons of their own, besides helping Abaddon.

since this is in the pre-heresy thread i take it you're planing a pre-heresy Perturabo? he had a thunderhammer and power fist with an incorporated bolter somewhat like the Talon of Horus.

Quite possibly, I've been looking at the Space Marine codex, and along with my Post-Heresy Space Marine army, (the Son's of Drachus), I've been considering utilising the rules for a pre-heresy style Iron Warriors legion.

But also for my Chaos Space Marine army, I would make a Daemon Prince version for larger games (using the Angron Rules as shown in White Dwarf, the issue number I've forgotten, but of course modified for the Iron Warriors Primarch instead.)

if you make him post-ascension, i would honestly keep his weapons very similar, though make changes to them.

for his thunderhammer... exaggerate the size of the head, and make it into a 2-handed hammer (at least in length of the haft) for his powerfist, if you could manage it, combine a storm bolter, melta gun (or other such weapon) and make something along the lines of a GK, or the fists of macragge... but bigger

and i dont think that perturabo would have wings or many other daemon qualities seen in bloodletters, or keepers of secrets, or whatever the slaaneshi daemon is called. i wouldnt equate daemon-hood with wings and horns and those other things you see in those models.

the rest is difficult for me to put into words, so ill just leave it at this

post-heresy after he becomes a DP it would be great to give him some sort of obliterator arm instead of a power fist. imagine his left arm with 10 assault cannons!!! or a freakin battle cannon!! but definitely keep the Forgebreaker.

In respect of his right hand, I note that he hold the Forgebreaker in his Left) I thought I'd keep the Defiler claw, but like it's been said, give him some form of other weapon (treat it almost like the Talon of Horus) but definitely use something like a battle cannon. for the guns.

Hopefully Games Workshop will get their bitz service back up and running as it will make this project much more viable than it is at the moment.

also for a preheresy version, what are the thoughs on using a particular type of Ork shoulder pads, I noticed there were some that resemble pre-heresy pads like on the illustration above, and having an Ork army as my secondary force, I have plenty of them around, and just to give a better idea of what I mean, Ive posted an image below.

I don't think there would be anything else that could be used on the sprue above, but I think the one with the box drawn around it would be the most suitable candidate.

Looks about right but wouldn't that pad be too small for a primarch? As for Perturabo having or not having wings, I am pretty sure the Daemon Prince in Storm of Iron had wings so I assumed that it was a fairly standard thing for IW. In the end, nobody really knows so make him however you want.

I have been thinking about that, but I think with some heat, I might be able to make some alterations to the above pads (even use a bit of green stuff to make them larger.

I have done an experimental model (with pads in place), which once painted I will post on here in this thread to give a generalised idea (I prefer to have it painted, as it will give a better idea of what I mean).

And "Rain" you indeed make a valid point in regards of making his appearence personal to how I see Perturabo being in the current era of the game.

Of course all other thoughts and ideas are welcome. ;)

The Drednought legpads are, as far as I've seen, the best bit for making PH termi shoulder pads. If you want something even bigger you can use the shoulder pads from Inquisitor: Witch Hunter Tyrus

Yes I think they would work for the Daemon Prince version, the Dreadnought ones if correctly cut in half would equally work well for his pre-heresy model, I'll look into that, thanks :P.

The dreadnought bits work quit well with out any major modification ( you need to remove the mount points on the inside), you can see them on the model in front in this pic.

I see what you mean now, thanks, that's a great help! :D .

Definitely going to use them on my next project! :D, I think I'll keep the other pad idea for my standard tactical squad sergeants.

As far as wings go if your looking for something along those lines, I figure one of two otpions for an IW Daemon Prince (primarch or not...).

1) Jet pack. The less interesting imo, as they are generally less intimidating. Though if you try to use the older Raptor jetpacks, the wings version might look very cool.

2) The option I'm working on. I basically took one dragon wing, and made the other wing using plasticard tubing to make the second. I'll try and get some pics up asap, but it basically looks like a skeletal design of a wing, but powered and articulated by many pnuematics and such. Turning out very nicely, but a royal pain. The "wing" material, the cloth if you will was made by very thin toilet paper glued then painting watered down PVA glue and applying super glue once the general shape was reached. Like i said I'll try and get some pics up soon.

Goodluck with whatever you decide.

Sounds interesting, I'd definitely like to see what you've acheived, it might give me some more ideas to work with. ;) :woot: :) :)

Post up, very WIP but you get the general idea.

Like I said in the topic linked here, I really like your work, it's given me some more ideas. :D

Thanks. ^_^ :) :D.

I'm open to other ideas and suggestions, the more the merrier. :D ;) ^_^

Ok, I thought's I'd try to work out my own Stats for Perturabo.

Here's Angron's state for comparison with my own creation.

Here's Angron's entry.

I have no notes on his stats, they are indeed actual GW stats

The are only being used for comparison purposes in regards of my project.

If you want the full rules of Angron, the are in UK White Dwarf 344.

ANGRON - DAEMON PRIMARCH OF THE WORLD EATERS:

TYPE: DAEMON PRINCE

WS: 10

BS: 6

S: 7

T: 6

W: 5

I: 6

A: 6

LD: 10

SV: 4+

Ok, so time to make the relevant comparisons of how I would make Perturabo.

PERTURABO - DAEMON PRIMARCH OF THE IRON WARRIORS:

TYPE: DAEMON PRINCE

WS: 10 (remains as standard, let's face it, why fix something that isn't broke)

BS: 8 (he ought to have far better balistic skills that Angron)

S: 9 (I would assume Forgebreaker would automatically give him +2 strength anyway)

T: 8 (all those bionics and the like would most likely give him 2+ toughness at least!

W: 5 (remains the same, like with WS, why change it?)

I: 8 (the machine in the eyes of an Iron Warrior would probably give him better Initiative)

A: 6 (Like with WS and W, why change it? It's not too many, or too few)

LD:10 (again why change it?)

SV: 3+ (armour fused via Daemonic processes would likely give him a 3+ Save).

Basically, that's how I see Perturabo in the Stats sense.
