Vash113
The DA and BA dexes are both 5th edition versions, not 4th which makes the new SM codex all the more irritating. Nevertheless the "I'm going to quite playing" nonsense does get old. Anyway I think this quote sums up the wolves nicely: "Conan what is best in life?" "To crush your enemies, see them driven before you and hear the lamentation of their women." I've been doing this since 1986. not to make you feel old, but you have been playing for as long as i have been alive..... i feel like a day one blood claw now. I was born in 1988 so that's two years older than I've been alive, haha. Ullr Direfang
well i suppose that i feel a little less blood claw-ish now, but still, i am sure the guys that have been playing for as long as i am old would wipe the table with my poor sad "young" SW list. but hey where would all the good leaders in the wolves come from if they were "taught" lessons from their GH/WGPL/WGBL/WGBG/WL/WP/RP ever once and a while, right. Grey Mage
Remember though.... age doesnt always equal experiance... nor does youth always mean a lack there of. Im an 86 model north american but Ive been playing since 98... so I have a decade of experiance under my belt. It also means I got about a year and a half of 2nd edition before my group dried up, and I had to figure out what all this 3rd edition stuff was. erik ironfang
Grey Mage, Silverwolf...well met brothers. It is always good to meet SW players who remember Torgald's Plasma Blade and the rules for Ranulf the Wolf Guard from the old days... I love being a Space Wolf player simply because we do more with less. Despite all the new, shiny wargear out there we Wolves still have the ability to throw some serious hurt onto any of the new races. I played a tournament this weekend and a kid came up to me and said, "I haven't seen Space Wolves at a tournament for awhile, especially since there are so many new codexes out." I ended up taking third, wiped one of my opponent's army down to the last man and mauled a poor Ravenwing player... In my opinion we still have the best troop choices out there. Ever tried moving 10 Grey Hunters with all the kit and a Wolf Guard Leader in Terminator Armor off of an objective? If you make it through the bolter and plasma fire...you still have to contend with 1 power fist, 1 power weapon, and a pair of lightning claws. Not many armies can match our troops in versatility. Now let us go have an ale and tell sagas of the deeds that make us all Brothers of the Fang... The_Betrayed_Spacewolf
ah Ranulf now there was a wolf for anyone to admire in heroics. while he was before me becoming a wolf i heard of his tales and always wished to know more about that giant among wolves. Grey Mage
*sighs* Unfortuneatly during 2nd edition I was on the RECEIVING end of the space wolves fury. The dreadnaught and two squads of grey hunters I cant find from 2nd edition were from that friend of mine.... I played only eldar at the time, having invested much of my money in fantasy. I wish now, and for many years now, that I might have asked for his codex too. *sighs* Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/148578-why-do-we-love-being-space-wolves/page/3/#findComment-1732244 Share on other sites
Blade_of_Russ
Originally - I didn't understand that the other non-nilla marine codices were not supplements to the SM codex, and the SW codex was $9.00. I bought the SM and SW codices last december, read them over christmas break, read the Space Wolves Omnibus, and came to love the chapter for the fluff. It seems that the Wolves are the toughest on their new recruits, with the only real rival being the Black Templars. I like their simple sense of honor and duty. I also enjoy the special rules and liberty in modeling (when I first set out I was relieved to discover that Space Wolves need only "e prodiminately grey.").
