Shiny Grey Knights

Here's a few of the Grey Knights that I originally did for my DH army last year.

The idea was to paint the entire army with this sort of reflection of the marble floor on the armor. The more I learned about 40k and the amount of figs I might need, the more I realized that doing the whole army this way might not be the most practical approach :)

So, I settled on a slightly different slate look that most of you have already seen.

I was not attempting to do complete 100% accurate reflections of every nearby surface... all I wanted to do was get some of the flavor of reflections.

Here's a few images:

I do the weapons in much the same way as I do the marble.

I have some blood read and chaos black out on the pallette. I water things down, and drag the black and red across the blades to create a random pattern of lights and darks.

Once that is established, I take lighter colors and build up the lighter areas.. using oranges and yellows.

good to see you havent been disheartened by bad golden daemon judging <_<

jaw dropping as usual wap the reflection is ausome, although for some reason the reflection on the left leg of all the models is better than the right imo! dunno why they all just look more realistic the back packs look sweet too

are these for the same commision as before?

Thanks for all the kind words! <_<

These were the original minis for my own DH army back in April of '07. I still had not even played 40k yet :tu:

I started playing in September of last year. They have been pretty successful at 29 wins, 12 draws and 6 losses. I did change my emphasis to Stormtroopers, since they seemed to offer some unique flexibility. This was before 5th edition, which has enhanced their value even more.

Besides, my army is more of an "evil" force, focusing more on inquisitors and assassins, like this guy:

He was my very first assassin, a conversion that I did with an Empire Fantasy mini that I discovered.

Very nice technique.

Interesting enough, the painting schemes of the grey knights remind me alot of the Car Wars Deluxe. Those shining refelction of the drawings in that Steve Jackson booklet as well as the drawing on the deluxe box. And the helmet's shining mirror visor len.

Thanks for all the kind words on these. ;)

I suppose it would be a bit easier for me to do these now than it was back in April of '07. I have painted well over a hundred Grey Knights since then.

I confess that when I first painted these, I didn't even know what a space marine was.

I painted them right after Adepticon. My wife and I spent many hours walking around the tournament room in between rounds. When we saw all the amazing armies there, we each said that we must have our own ;)

Cathy actually started learning the game before I did. She has lots of minis from her Dark Angels army that she will be posting on here at some point.
