Long Fang
Hail brothers, I was asked how my game went sooooo... Now then I'm no writer and this is the first time I've written an after action report so I'll apologize in advance :o 6 objectives Dawn of war deployment. (6x4 table one in each 2x2 section) Heavy city on my right, hills and trees on my left. He had... Lord with 5 incubi and the special char Drazzar 5 units of ten warriors - one with heavy weapons 4 with close range specials. ( one in raider) 2 wyche squads (one in raider) all with wyche weapons 2 Talos 7 reaver jetbikes. 5 helions Think that was all... I had 4 assault cannon drop pod of doom :( - Had to be done :P venerable dread assault cannon/dccw with heavy flamer wolf priest 6 grey hunters bolters/plasma gun 6 grey hunters bp/flamer - razorback twin heavy bolters 9 blood claws + wolf guard - rhino 8 blood claws + wolf guard + the wolf priest - rhino predator autocannon/heavy bolters predator autocannon/lascannons The dark eldar deployed first, putting down two units of warriors claiming an objective each and his lords unit on my right flank. I deployed the grey hunters without the rhino into cover claiming an objective on the far left. The venerable dreadnought and the rhino with the first blood claw pack on the right flank in cover. TURN 1 He went first. Brought on the raider wyches on my left. The raider warriors in the center along with the foot slogging wyches and a foot slogging warrior unit. Then the jetbikes and the other warrior units on my right. One talos deployed to my left the other in the centre with the helions. He had zero shooting as night fighting combined with me deploying in cover meant in couldn't see anything. I brought on the predators in center, all the transports on my right flank and the drop pod smack in the center of his lines. The razorback ran up right of center with the two rhinos further right with the ven dread. Advancing around both sides of a building, the lead vehicles popping smoke. The predators knocked 2 wounds off of the central talos after some great sight range rolls (gotta love acute senses). The drop pod unit started by opening up with 3 combi flamers, completing annihilating the wyches on foot before the assault cannons could even fire. TURN 2 The wyche raider and the talos on my left advanced. The lord's unit and the warriors on the right flank moved forward with the jetbikes hugging cover ready to support them. The WGBL's drop pod unit took fire from the helions 3 units of warriors and the talos, only losing one PA marine (rolled a 2 on SS invul ) the talos then assaulted rolling a 6 for its attacks!! it only wounded once which was saved by a storm sheild. The wolf guard having based there test for counter charge then took its final wound consolidating towards another warrior squad. My rhinos and razorback powered up then right flank deploying all the blood claws and a unit of grey hunters, the venrable dread ending its move just behind the wolf priests blood claws. The shooting phase saw the transport units decimate the warrior squad holding the right flank objective and killing a jetbike with a good flamer shot. The dreadnought and grey hunters killing 2 incubi. TURN 3 The raider and talos continued to advance on my right, while the warriors held back keeping the objective. The warriors and lord on the right advanced firing into the blood claws killing 2. The WGBL's squad wethered another hail of shots coming out un-harmed. The lord's unit charged the grey hunters wiping them out and losing a single incubi in return. With there consolidation they retreated into cover. The wall of blood claws advanced claiming the objective they had just cleaned out. The predators killed the raider with the wyches the resulting explosion killing 5, the other 5 falling to rapid fire from the grey hunters holding my left hand objective. The venerable dreadnought opend up on the lords unit killing everyone but Drazzar!! he then finshed the job in combat crushing drazzar with his DCCW. The razborack with its squad down sped to the center of the board killing half of the helions. TURN 4 The dark eldar movement started and the remainng squads moved forwards, the talos on the left being joined by the raider with the warriors onboard. It was at this point i realised that the predator that had killed the raider full of wyches had in fact moved, not knowing which shot killed it we agreed that the unit and raider would come back on as per reserves next turn. This was totally my mistake but i was playing my buddy who hadn't noticed it ether, he and Games master where quite happy to have them come back on, so we moved on. The dark eldar ended there turn heading towards the objectives in there centre and on my left, and again unsuccesfully shooting the WGBL's squad Keeping the preadtors very still this turn and double checking every move i made i started my turn. The blood claws pushed firther into the building with the wolf priests unit just outside to the left. The WGBL's squad moved to the right to support my main thrust decimating another squad of warriros with there assault cannons. The predators succeeded in shooting down the warriors raider, the 2nd one also killing half the squad onboard as they jumped out of the wreakage. TURN 5 The resurrected wyches came back on shooting and then charging the wolf priests blood claws. The last warrior squad on the right moved forward to add there firepower. The talos moved further towards my grey hunters on the left, hugging the tree cover. The wyche assault was a string of bad luck for them, they failed to kill a single blood claw, losing 3 in return. The wyches held and so the combat continued. With my blood claws now lock ed in combat and reduced to one attack each by the wyche weapons the 2nd unit of blood claws and the venerable dreadnought swung round attacking the wyches from the rear. The WGBL moved further right finishing off the last of teh warrirors on the right flank with sustained assault cannon fire. The razorback finshed off the last of the helions with its heavy bolters. beset on all sides the remaining wyches killed one blood claw and in return lost 5. Trying to flee they where caught by the venerable dreadnought and the last two died to its DCCW. The game ended with the dark eldar holding 1 objective and wolves holding 2. Losses - dark eldar wyches on foot wyches in raider (twice) 4x10 warrirors 7 jetbikes (blood claws shot the lot down while pushing into the buildings :P ) 1 talos lord/drazzar/5 incubi 5 helions The cost to the wolves 8 Grey hunters (6+2) 4-6 blood claws (not sure now) 1 wolf guard 1 lascannon on the predator (raider dark lance) Well there you have it. The mess up my part with the wyches on the raider didn't affect the game to much (the raider was crew stunned/shaken anyway in the middle of the board) and my opponent was very gracious about it, tbh he was chuffed when i suggested having them back on. This was my first outting with this many transport vehicles ( i normally take more dreads and foot slog up the table). All in all a good game and a clear victory for the wolves. I'd like to congratulate anyone who has read this far, as knowing my writing the above is full of mistakes and i have left stuff out (Keg of the finest ale to ya). But hopefully you got the important bits. Lessons learned - Double check before firing predators 4 assault cannon drop pods are evil. OnlyInDeath
A fine win indeed! Thanks for the battle report. It's so hard to find any one who plays dark eldar and I'm always interested to see what people use to take them out. Sounds like your shooting was spot on and I do love seeing the 4 AC drop pod of doom on the table:) Wipe off that cursed blood and have an ale! Wolf89
Dark Eldar can be tricky in the right hands, but it looks like you had no trouble at all, job well done. The thing about eldar is if they don't have their raiders they're somewhat slow to get into combat and need combat to survive (for most of them) and they die easy to fire. If you put them in the vehicles then your rushing them up in paper thin vehicles that are likely to kill a few wyches and warriors when it blows. The assault cannons work wonders against the army, and that combo of that squad is nasty and I'm surely taking it to every game now (1500 and above I think is a good range). Glad to see other person using combi-flamers! I just love them for 5th. WolfLordLars
If I had a nickle for everytime someone used that combo... :P Outstanding! I am a little miffed I missed out playing this weekend, but I have to get my models painted (and my wolf guards are sitting in pieces on my workbench anyway). Soon.... very soon.... Wolf89
How do you equip this "4 assault cannon drop pod of doom "? Obv with 4 assault cannons but what else? I use 2 combi-flamers and a bolter and bolt pistol for the 4 PA WGBG.. it helps with wound allocation (for one of the combi-flamers I give frags to the other I do not). -edit- I also give the PA marines Storm shields for the awesome 3+ inv. WolfLordLars
Dont listen to his heresy... The list is in the 750pt list thread. Trust the original. Maybe drop in a Frag Grenade or a combi-weapon on the SS wolf guards to make them 'different' for wound allocation.
