Astral Flames

Neo Exile

Recommended Posts

Unknown no more. Chapter now known as Astral Flames (Thanks to Draakur)

Originaly I was thinking naming it "Astral Fire"

The current idea for a Chapter badge is a blue flame (in the Fire Angel style) or as Draakur sugested a

4 pointed star (in red, probably) engulfed by a white flame.

If anyone have any sugestions about another chappter name I would be happy to see your sugestions, that would also go for a chapter badge.

This is my first posting, so I hope to get some C&C. pleas dont hold anything back, I can take it (only way to learn)

PS. its still a WIP.

I gotta say I love this model, its crisp and very clean painting, the highlights are bold but not harsh and just bring out the detail beautifully and the colors are fantastic. The power weapon effects are very nicely done too and a nice bit of origionality over the norm.

I thank you so mutch for your coments, makes me feel good :o

But dont be afraid to kick me in the stomach ;)

Oh. MY. GOD! that paintjob is so amazing and crisp, how... How did you do it?

basicly I start whit a black primer, after that dried I aplied a thin coate chaos black water mix to cover any unwanted exposed surfaces.

Then start painting the model in the split configuration using the foundation paints (Mechrite red and Necron abyss).

After the foundation is lain, start aplying Scab red and reagal blue in the split configuration. Then cover the painted surface whit

black wash (Badab black). do this until you have the shading you like. After the wash, toutch up the armour whit yet another coate of

Scab red and Regal blue, and be cearful to not paint the shaded parts.

Finaly higlight the model using a Red gore and a thin stripe of Blood red (for the red part), and a 50/50 mix of Regal blue and Ultramines

blue then a pure thin stripe of Ultramarine blue (for the blue part).

When i say a thin stripe I mean as thin as you can get it, still need some practice there myself:

And for the forceaxe

how about the american chapter? the red, white, and blue fits.

Sorry but that wont fly. The white trim is to indicate that he is from the first company only. Regular troops will have their coresponding company colors as their trim.

But thanks for the sugestion ;)

Thanks :)

Very nice paint job Neo, only advise I have is maybe to thin your paint a bit, it looks a bit thick in places, good job.

Its absolutly true that its abit thick, was a bit impatiant painting this test figure, trying to find the best resulte for the colors.

I also think I might have to tone down the higlights, atleast limit them to one lightsource instead of painting every edge. I'd like some coments/tips on this pleas :)

The lighting and the flash on my camara makes it seem bright and crisp on the pictures, but seen in room light is actualy quite gloomy.

Really nice man, the scheme is very striking and the painting and detailing is great  An army done in this scheme, to this level, would be a sight to behold. Only real crit is the thickness of the paint, as has been mentioned.

Q: what colour would you do other weapons, normally? People often do plasma pistols up in unique colours (and I'm assuming that's the case here), which happens to work quite well for this guy with the blue and red theme, but would you go for something else for bolters and the like? If the white you're using on the shoulder pad trim isn't a company specific thing and just part of the chapter's scheme, I could see maybe a white bolter with gunmetal barrel/grip etc working well.

As for the name, I think you're onto a good idea; I'd personally just make a slight change, to Astral Flames. And the only idea that springs to mind for a chapter symbol would be a simple 4 pointed star (in red, probably) engulfed by a white flame.

Nothing else to add, really liking this

The white shoulder trim was ment to be company specific, as it is presented in 4rd editon SM codex (my 5th edition is inbound. Somhow they forgot to send it. It was suposed to be shiped out like a week ago ;)) About your weapon color question the the awnser is, dont know yet. Your point about the unique color for PP's did not realy ocure to me, but it realy do make sence, since I would never have painted a bolter that way. Kinda paint what I feel is right there and then, after that I copy for the rest of the army. I'll start a new marine tomorrow if time permits.

I realy like your sugested name better than my original sugestion, somhow makes more sence  Edit in effect name changed :)

Regarding your sugestion for the chapter badge, I'll give it a try but my freehand is not uber yet somthing about painting pictures/symbols on curved surfaces dont agree whit me yet :D . Flames I beleve I can do

Thanks for your kind words and sugestions guys (dont know if I should add and girls :P )

I am really really liking what you have done with the power weapon. Sweet.

Just a thought, but since you have so much blue, why not do the plasma pistol coils in green? I think it would be good to add in a bit more green since you have a bit with other details. Might make a tad more contrast.

But overall, I am impressed. Wonderful work.

Thanks :)

make them a brazen claws founding, as the colours are really similar, all you need to do is swap the legs

Dont think I'll start quarter the paintjob. I found a chapter thats even closer to mine, They are named Black Wings.

he Neo, you could use, WWII U.S or Russian aircraft or armor decals, red or white stars, then free hand a flame. thats if you wanted to go with a star.

Have to surfe the web to investigate. But dont think Ill go for stars, will paint some shoulder pads to see if I can make someting interesting thou.

Have been thinking about this too, and I think you hit the nail spot on. I'll try it out when I have some mire time.

I personally prefer the blue flame symbol idea to the star/flame combination.

I curently prefer the flames myself, but as I mentiond earlier, I'll try some other options aswell.

Here are some pictures of a test pice for the Flamepad :D

When I painted the Flamepad, I came to the conclution that I might have to make my marines paintjob darker, and I'll probably drop the Company colours on the shoulderpads (have to find a less obtrusive

way to mark them).
