rat of vengence
i'd call em the patriots British Patriots? Dutch Patriots? French Patriots? Quite a few countries had first dibs on the red white and blue... ;) I really love the flames on the shoulder pads. I second the call for a recipie! RoV Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/148869-astral-flames/page/2/#findComment-1736878 Share on other sites
st.germaine
You're right, the flames you've got knock the socks off either other suggestion. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/148869-astral-flames/page/2/#findComment-1737101 Share on other sites
Draakur
The flames look excellent! The problem though is they'll be on the blue side of your guys' armour, and probably be that much less striking because of it. Or is that why you said you think you'll need to darken the scheme...? bluewolf74727
IMHO i would have done the flames on the red shoulder pad but thats just me looks sick though cant wait to see it on a dread Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/148869-astral-flames/page/2/#findComment-1737800 Share on other sites
Neo Exile
Thanks :) you must tell us how you made those flames (holds chainsword to your neck) pleease I'll see what I can do. Basicly the flame efect is don the same way as the force effect on the axe, just in a flame pattern. I googeld Blue flame, and found this picture http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/rr35/NeoExile80/BlueFlame3.jpg This was my guide on how to colour the flame patern. QUOTE (jeremy1391 @ Oct 17 2008, 04:36 AM) i'd call em the patriots British Patriots? Dutch Patriots? French Patriots? Quite a few countries had first dibs on the red white and blue... I really love the flames on the shoulder pads. I second the call for a recipie! RoV I'm from Norway, so I have the Red, White and Blue in the flag too, but i would not bring RL patriotisme into the 41'st K. For a patriot from the 41'st universe the coulour scheem should be the emperors colours. The flames look excellent! The problem though is they'll be on the blue side of your guys' armour, and probably be that much less striking because of it. Or is that why you said you think you'll need to darken the scheme...? Yes, thats why I said that I should darkent the scheem, should probably have elaborated on that in my earlyer statment. I'll try a darcker blue, probably a 50/50 Regal blue/Chaos black mix if not darker. The same goes for the red side. Realy want my marines to radiate a gloomy feeling (to mirror the 40K univers). IMHO i would have done the flames on the red shoulder pad but thats just me looks sick though cant wait to see it on a dread I'm looking forward to that to. Will probably go for a split scheem for the dread. But im not that shure about wehicles. bluewolf74727
the split scheem with those colours would look geart on a vehicle with a dread it would look like a very large marine (which is basiclly what they are) try it Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/148869-astral-flames/page/2/#findComment-1737868 Share on other sites
Draakur
Ah ok, understood. Looking forward to seeing the brightness toned down a few notches then. I can't actually picture how that'll come out in my head since the vibrancy of your current colours are what really characterise your scheme to me, so should be interesting  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/148869-astral-flames/page/2/#findComment-1737926 Share on other sites
Captain Lucas Raziel
dude you must do a tutorial on those flames. love the colour scheme, be the way keep the astral flames, as i love astral, hence my astral dragons. also i was thinking, could you put those flames you have on the shoulder pads and put them on chainswords as well. you'll need to start writing fluff soon. Neo Exile
Ok. here are some picts of the original test marine. Coils on plasma gun made green (might have overdon the yelow higlighting, but its still only a test model) The shoulder trim have been painted to match the marine (personaly prefer it like this, C&C welcome) have also tried to add the chapter marking (flames) on the left shoulderpad. (due to cramt space they came out less than faworably) http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/rr35/NeoExile80/testM003.jpg http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/rr35/NeoExile80/testM004.jpg http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/rr35/NeoExile80/testM005.jpg http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/rr35/NeoExile80/testM006.jpg dude you must do a tutorial on those flames. love the colour scheme, be the way keep the astral flames, as i love astral, hence my astral dragons. also i was thinking, could you put those flames you have on the shoulder pads and put them on chainswords as well. you'll need to start writing fluff soon. Courage and Honour, Brother Captain Lucas Raziel Going to make a tutorial on the flames, I promice. Wil try it out on a chainsword too. Fluff are curently floating around in my head, still largly incompleet. Waiting for the 5th edition SM codex for a more acurate setting for my storry. Ah ok, understood. Looking forward to seeing the brightness toned down a few notches then. I can't actually picture how that'll come out in my head since the vibrancy of your current colours are what really characterise your scheme to me, so should be interesting Thanks :) I'll paint up a test figure in darker coulours. Althoug they already are quite dark in daylight. Flash on camara kinda brightens the paintjob a bit :) The reason I use the flash is that when I come home from work its to little light outside to take a good picture, and I dont have the right lighting indors. I might actualy go for a black shoulderpad option, keeping the trim in the splitt colour scheem. St.Gabriel
I have to disagree with you... I think the flames turned out quite nicely, ESPECIALLY given the ridiculously small space you had to paint them. well done. the colour scheme is fantastic, great, crisp painting and I'm looking forward to reading your fluff once you get it all figured out :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/148869-astral-flames/page/2/#findComment-1740289 Share on other sites
Neo Exile
At youre request. Blue flame paint guide. Step 1. http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/rr35/NeoExile80/ss103.jpg Colour: 50/50 Regal blue/Ultramarine blue (painted on pure Regal blue) Line out your flames. Step 2. http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/rr35/NeoExile80/ss202.jpg Colour: 50/50 Regal blue/Ultramarine blue Add more body to the flames. Step 3. http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/rr35/NeoExile80/ss301.jpg Colour: Pure Ultramarine blue Add paint to flames, let some of the foundation flame to show. Step 4. http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/rr35/NeoExile80/ss402.jpg Colour: Pure Ice blue Let the underlaying paintjob show. You may want to add some ember effect by adding some ice blue at the tips of the flames. (dont do this whit all of them) Step 5. http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/rr35/NeoExile80/ss501.jpg Colour: 50/50 Ice blue/Skull white Do as instructed in step 4 Step 6. http://i467.photobucket.com/albums/rr35/NeoExile80/ss601.jpg Colour: Pure Skull white Add white at the bace of the flames. Add some (a small spec) whit on the embers, can also add some white to hotspots in the flame (try not to overdo this) This guide can be used for other coulourd flames like red, yellow, green. Only your imagination is the limmit. Have fun painting flames the astral way  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/148869-astral-flames/page/2/#findComment-1744604 Share on other sites

rat of vengence
Thanks dude, good step by step! Broadly similar to how I have done a few powerswords, but the ember bits at the top really set it off. Consider this idea shamelessly copied. *HOIK* I still think they rock. Any army painted with this scheme like your librarian is going to totally kick butt. Neo Exile
Here is a picture of a Tactical marine. Dont know about the bolter colour thou. No squad or company marking on him yet. st.germaine
Also have to agree about shamelessly stealing that technique for flames (I'm thinking green...). And the bolters look sharp with your color scheme. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/148869-astral-flames/page/2/#findComment-1748926 Share on other sites
Rhaja
Wow I can't wait to see more, your model's are turning out so sharp.
