Primarchs

If you want to read about how awesome (and apparently telekinetic) Curze is, see if you can get a copy of 'The Dark King' audiobook or the written version that came with it. It's very, very good.

I think the best lines describing a Primarch, the ones that gave me chills, weren't even describing a Primarch.

In 'Horus Rising,' Sanguinius' ship translates and a single line, a paragraph on it's own:

"The Angel had arrived."

Sent chills down my spine.

There's a lot of "Angel Primarchs" ...

The Red Angel = Angron

Angel of Death = Morty

etc.

Angel is an overused word.

Now if it was ... "HOLY CRAP! CHRIST! OH EMPEROR! ITS SANGUINUS! THE SEXY! OH MY GOD! I JUST CREAMED MY PANTS!!! *Schoolgirl Squeal* Blood Angels are supposed to be pretty after all. ...Damn Space Vampires.

Yeah but Sanguinus the THE Angel. Period.

Also, the Blood Angels weren't space vampires until after the Heresy.

Bearing in mind these Angels are coming to kill you, I don't think the reaction would be quite that. <_<

The Blood Angels probably imbibed of Sanguinius' blood before the Heresy, but I doubt they went around drinking blood in general till after. But that's not so weird - all the Legions pretty much have tissue and blood and gristle from their Primarchs in them, of a sort.

I think Descent and Fall did a GREAT job of portraying the Lion. Alpharius in Legion was great. Dorn was solid, although I much preferred his extended portrayal in the Lightning Tower & Dark King. Like the Angels books and the Lion, Dorn too is portrayed with flaws. I didn't particularly like Horus' (or Fulgrim's!) fall because it was just a 'wizard did it' sort of thing, whereas there's actually a sense of struggle with the others so far.

Primarchs without doubt are pretty dull, to me. The loyalists who wondered about it, who maybe hesitated just that little bit, or who were saddened by destroying the beauty of the Imperial Palace to turn it into a weapon of war - those I found much more interesting.

I liked the depictions of Sanguinus and Dorn the best so far. They were just cameos but were both very well written IMHO.

I soo have to aggre hear, athough only breifly mentioned, Dorn left a massive impression, and the entire styling of the sanguinius description gave a very angelic sort of feel, exactly what i immagined.

Mortarions description in Flight of the Eisenstein also very nice, he comes accros as a very imposing individual

I agree with all three, especially as I thought it a shame Mortarion went all Nurgle!

On the other hand Fulgrim, amid the book of same name, was a bit disappointing.. An alien/daemon weapon and he had no defence/etc. against it? Such a mighty primarch he was...

"I just creamed my pants as I bled to death"?

Far and away, Alpharius for me was the best explained (just enough), and the best shown as the fiercely cunning and intellectual entity that he was, offset of course by his brother.

Being discovered barely 20 years before the heresy by horus, Alpharius and his legion are at a large dis-advantage story wise for an author, in comparison to the other legion's primarchs who have been fighting the great crusade for centuries. This makes Alpharius and his thoughts/actions quite unique.

I pulled this from the Tarot and Heresy post a long time ago, in it is the description of Alpharius or (The Lovers / Gemini). No primarch so far has been shown as acuretly as the big A in description.

Alpharius

An extremely quick mind that loves complexity and is easily bored. He will show curiosity in anything and everything, but will probably also display a short attention span and a constant desire to move on to the next challenge. He is likely to treat everything as a purely intellectual persuit, and may go as far as turning any task into a complex mental challenge without any thought for practicality.

He will be social and good with people, but mostly as an excuse to find out what makes them tick. He will quickly move on from people who bore him, and may have difficulty forming any truly deep bond.

Lacking deep bonds or the desire to think over one thing too much, he runs the risk of becoming superficial or even self-contradictory. He may even be deliberately contradictory, or do other things, just to see how people react.

Constantly curious and lively, he may well project a particularly youthful or even childlike demeanor.

He forms a trio with Justice and the Star, focused on understanding of the universe. The Lovers gathers information and forms theories, Justice evaluates those ideas and decides on the best path, and the Star attempts to implement that plan for the good of mankind. This trio in turn represents three aspects of the personality of the Fool (and arguably the Magus).

At best, highly intelligent and adaptable, lively, articulate and socialble.

At worst, impractical, overcomplicates everything, superficial, childish, indecisive and self-contradictory.
