SeerBrun
Because apparently I like to challenge people to try to model this crap. Though I say crap, I hope you enjoy. I actually struggled quite a bit to pump this guy out. The Fabricator General
Very nice Brun, but one question. Pulse
Tis good, i don't think its as good as your other work, infact i'll go so far as saying the face on the sergeant isn't that good to look at. The helmet on the space marine on the right is much better imo. Good work still though. SeerBrun
Holy Moly! That's better than the actual GW artwork. Love the thorns! Well, I am glad you like it. I have to say that I find that kind of praise a little generous, but I don't mind it, by any means. I also don't have much by which I can judge how accurate that was, all I know is that they had some really good inkers back when I stopped playing. Now Eldar art, I might be less humble, but the bar is a lot lower there. . . Woot :) I really like it, it is somehow more realistic than the GW-artwork-marines. Hope to see more of these :) There are some more Castigators (and still even more marines) on my Deviant Art found in my signature. I'm glad you approve of my style though. Sweet! I don't think anyone has to model him, I could see him converted from the new Sicarius mini I think even that would be quite a chore, but that guy will provide a good reference for the helmet. I'd start with a chaplain, though, and work up and down from there. Love the head and the gaze... /shiverPermission to steal the helm idea ? DS I can't very well stop you. Just say you were inspired by an (awesome?) drawing (by one of your favorite 40k illustrators :crosses-fingers:). Looks good but is he a Sargent or the chaplain? and whats with the phantom of the opera in the background left? In the picture it says that he is a sergeant. Whoaaaa niice picture, /right click - save as  He doesn't yet have a backstory, but someone will explain why they chromed over his skull with metal at some point. Despite the skull, he is meant to be a sergeant. Very nice indeed, Seerbrun! :) A good job of bringing the Castigators to life. This, alone, should be some measure of success! I hope the name meets with approval too! I couldn't believe that Sulla wasn't already taken. Nice one dude, lose the crappy filter and it will be pretty damn cool :) Awe... ye olde Immortal Enemies filters... I love it on 40k pages--it seems to add more of the 1st/2nd edition police sketch quality to it--but to each his own! Well I'm not SeerBrun but I'm guessing its a Fasces. And what is that? He's correct. Those are supposed to be fasces. They were a symbol of power. Specifically, the axe was supposed to show the Roman Governor (or Emperor's) power over life and death while the group of bundled sticks was supposed to show some sort of strength in unity. Interestingly enough, fasces were carried around by officers known as lictors. Obviously, that isn't a good word for 40k, but, considering they are the highest retinue in the chapter, it would be an appropriate allusion, particularly for a chapter that has a psuedo Roman background. An axe in a a bundle of rods- ancient Roman symbol of power ,but also a symbol of fascism- the word fascism itself comes from the Fasces. Awe... Its not that bad. It was also on our (US) dime for a long, long time. It fell out of favor though for obvious reasons sometime after World War II as I recall. That's awesome but... wheres the backpack? I will say probably somewhere behind his ridiculously large armored collar and shoulderpads. I have been known to be something of a joker though. :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/149019-castigator-1st-sgt-sulla-of-the-honour-guard/#findComment-1731722 Share on other sites
Cpt_Tiberius
I like the figure. Though I am confused why he would have the Inquisition Icon on his pauldron rather than his chapter badge. (Especially being an honour guard). And I have to agree that the filter is a hinderance more than a help. I will say I do like the "Tony Scott" coloring. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/149019-castigator-1st-sgt-sulla-of-the-honour-guard/#findComment-1732150 Share on other sites

solid snake drive
Awesome illustration. My only gripe is that his shoulder plates don't look relaxed, but look tilted forward as if he is hunching forward. From this angle, you shouldn't even see any space between the upper arm and the curve that goes around to the back of the arm. Still, its definitely better than I could draw. Kudos to you my good sir... Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/149019-castigator-1st-sgt-sulla-of-the-honour-guard/#findComment-1734975 Share on other sites
SeerBrun
I like the figure. Though I am confused why he would have the Inquisition Icon on his pauldron rather than his chapter badge. (Especially being an honour guard). And I have to agree that the filter is a hinderance more than a help. I will say I do like the "Tony Scott" coloring. :P As I recall, the Castigators receive battle honors for campaigns served along side the Inquisition. These icons tend to be modeled after traditional Inquisition iconography, and as we all have come to realize that the Inquisition does not usually go after the 'helpful heretics' unless it is politically expedient. Because apparently I like to challenge people to try to model this crap. I call not it! Very nice job on this. I love the skull mask, makes me think of a chaplain yet it doesn't. Ya know? I was hoping that would be the general reaction. ^_^ Awesome illustration. You mean attached to the actual upper arm? I know thats how you glue the shoulders onto the actual model; however, I have never really been satisfied that had anything to do with how they are actually attached if you take a realistic perspective about it. If that was really the case, whenever he raised his arm, he'd be confined to never raising his arms above shoulder high. Thus, they are usually drawn with a sort of 'floating' effect, not such that they aren't attached--I'm sure they are somewhere beneath there--but they should move in a manner that allows the pauldron to almost never meet the collar, head, or upper arm for maximum mobility... ...all an opinion though.
