Blade_of_Russ
I did a brief preliminary search, only going back 6 pages of the 16 that showed up, so if this has been discussed recently I apologise for being repetitious. I was wondering how often the rest of you use Long Fangs and how you feild them. I take them if I take any heavy support, with a predator annihilator with side sponse lascannons for a second heavy support choice if needed. I typically pay for the leader to have a bolter(when I first got him I modeled him that way, so i just pay for it rather than risk argument), and give the rest of the squad two missile launchers, a heavy bolter and a lascannon. I usually place them in a Razorback with a lascannon upgrade and extra armor. I hide them behind the razorback most of the game and fire around the edges, with the two missile launchers to one side, and the lascannon and heavy bolter to the other. Recently in a 1k game I feilded a 3 man squad with a plasmacannon and heavy bolter. This configuration worked out ok, but probubly would have performed better if te plasmacannon hadn't constantly overheated (luckily I always made the armor save). OnlyInDeath
I personally am reluctant to field them short of apocalypse games simply because the unit has such a low survivability rate. However, this doesnt mean I am a dense wolve completely forgoing them (like I said, i love having them in apoc), and as such I have 3 squads: All plasma cannons (the most feared by my opponents 2 ML's and 2 LC's (great for anti tank, pretty much 2 a turn!) and 4 HB's to whittle down those pesky swarm armies I also have a HB razorback and a TLLC razorback to provide transport if needed. For some reason, in apoc, these guys still draw a lot of fire, which I actually LIKE as I consider them to be expendable when you get that high of points value (8k region) and the rest of my army gets completely ignored, which leaves me unscathed to turn around and absolutely crush my opponent. But yeah, in normal games, I havent fielded them for nigh on 3 years. clanfield
in smaller points games i use a predator destructor with las pods my long fang packs are 1,2x missle launchers,2 xlas canons pack leader has bolter 2,4x missle launchers, pack leader has bolter when i deploy long fangs i put a grey hunter squad of 10 with bolters and a rune priest with them to guard/protect em it works well as the grey hunters can act as a reserve for later in the battle genraly i always use a vindicator and a pred and a long fang pack as heavys against nids ill take a whirlwind in place of the pred i only use my land raiders as transports for the wolf guard 3-4 of them shakes the bag a little Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/149221-long-fangs/#findComment-1733089 Share on other sites
Jarl Kjaran Coldheart
i used to field them with all ML launchers, as it was the cheapest yet most effective firing solution for them. (the frag and krak rounds). but they were too expensive points wise and their survivalbility was somewhere between 0 and 1. for anti-tank weapons i field dreads nowadays, with scouts and a LRE armed with a hull mounted lascannon. they do the job pretty well, but my WGL are armed with PF and most squads have melta weapons in them to be safe. wolf lord kieran Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/149221-long-fangs/#findComment-1733115 Share on other sites
The_Betrayed_Spacewolf
unfortunatly as a 13th player its my only heavy option so yeah 4 rockit launchers because missilies miss Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/149221-long-fangs/#findComment-1733211 Share on other sites
Wolf89
unfortunatly as a 13th player its my only heavy option so yeah 4 rockit launchers because missilies miss I call mine rocket launchers too so they don't "miss" :P but as 13th company I like the use of plasma cannons and las cannons for the most part. The more serious tank popping if needed comes in the form of 2 melta guns point blank from a deep striking grey slayer squad or something. ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/149221-long-fangs/#findComment-1733323 Share on other sites
Grey Mage
Ive got a squad of four missile launchers I like to drop in some days... but they always remind me of dark reapers when I do that... and they dont do as much against troops. Im working on getting a second plasma cannon and a second lascannon.... its around 250 pts, but at 1750 and above I think its worth it... scary worth it. erik ironfang
I know most of my brother wolves will disagree with me on this one, but I usually field a pack of 5 with the Sergeant, 3 Heavy Bolters, and a Lascannon. I find that even in small points games they are a great support team for my troops. The key for me is that I use drop pods, and those keep the enemy busy enough that they ignore my Long Fangs for enough turns that they can get their points back in shooting. I find that in cover with everything giving a 4+, they are staying alive even longer than before. Just my opinion brothers...
