I managed to get one of these at UK Gamesday and have finally finished it. Thought I would put up some pics for everyone to see what it looks like painted.

looks great especially areas like the head i think it would look a bit better with some battle damage, it looks a bit clean especially with the tyranid remains everywhere

the red on the banner looks a little flat, could easily be the picture though

are the stormbolters usually there it looks cool

The storm bolters come with the forgeworld CCW's. There should be a sensor on the right hand side but forgeworld sent me the wrong plasma cannon so used an additional storm bolter. The second one cant be used in game but does look nice.

Also as to battle damage, I never model it as I find that clean models are more adaptable to any game. Looks a little wierd to have a mud encrusted terminator or dreadnough walking through spaceship corridors etc. Just a personal preference.

amazing paintjob. the more i see dreads with plasma cannon the more i am debating getting that over an assault cannonfor when i order the FW chaplain dread. man that looks great.

I really think that plasma is the way to go with these guys. Sure an assault cannon is theoretically a better weapon because of its rending abilities but plasma is is just so much more scary in my opinion. Make it venerable and you are unlikely to scatter enough to go totally off target and you dont overheat which is always good. I really have had alot of success with this set up.

The chaplain dread rocks. I have one and built it up as an Ironclad.

It really is a monstously good investment and has never failed get back its points cost.

I like it, but i think it could use some gold.

The only place that gold could potentialy go would be on the aquila shield and I think that would have been far far too much. I also based his scheme on my Tyranid Vets squad (blue and white helmet, white trim) The tyranid bits and pieces on the dread match the ones on the squad as well.

That being said I have seen some Ultra Ven Dreads with the gold wings and they do look really good. Though I think you have to make sure its a darker, duller gold to match the venerable status. Shining gold would not work at all.
