number6
Hi Marine players! I've just started playing 40K, and I'm really hooked. I've started playing as Tau in my first league, but one of the guys I played against had GK minis, and I was floored. I've decided I really want to give this army a shot. Can you guys here give me a suggestion of what I should buy to start out with? I was thinking of 2 packs of PAGK and 1 of Terminators (2 troops and HQ.) Would you recommend some psycannon models? Thanks very much! This entire thread is amazing, I'm learning a lot from reading it! If you're going to go pure GK, than a terminator for a BC and a pair of power-armoured GK squads are mandatory. Between 500 pts and 1000 pts, I'd also look to field one or two dreadnoughts. Actually a pretty cheap force to put together and quick to paint up, too. Once you have a few games under your belt, you can look to add more Grey Knight Goodness (termies, more Troops, dreads, land raiders, ...) or expand into Inquisitorial units and/or allied/inducted units. This topic is definitely a treasure trove of tactical advice, but the forum overall has excellent support for the new player. Please direct all future queries along these lines to the main forum here, as the "Water Warrior" topic needs to be dedicated to the tactica itself. templargdt
Can any GK terminator work or do I have to buy the 50 dollar box with the 5 terminators? Thanks! - 7eAL -
Since models are only representative figures, any Terminator works. The Brother-Captain does not need to be the commanding figure with the outstretched pointing finger. It'll save you some money in the long run if you get the 50 dollar box with him in it, though. Auedawen
keep in mind that the box comes with an Incinerator armed Terminator. Less of an issue in 5th now that Incinerators received a large boost. But they are still often overshadowed by Psycannons Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/149460-templargdt-new-grey-knight-convert/#findComment-1737109 Share on other sites
Marid
I'd start by getting a single GKT with pyscannon and boosters of PAGKs. Both of the box sets include incinerator toting models. number6
I always liked the look of the BC Stern model. He makes a fine generic HQ model, BC or GM. If you want your HQ to have a psycannon -- a common situation, and one I recommend -- also pick up a psycannon GKT blister and do an arm swap. Give "Stern" the psycannon arm and the GKT Stern's stormbolter arm. And you're also on your way to building up a GKT squad!
