There are a couple of really cool coversions out there. This first one is pretty good. I think he should have swapped heads as well.

Im sorry, but I have to say it. I cant stand the model for RBM. Its the topknot. I wont use the one out of the GreyHunters box either. I have a strong dislike for that hairstyle.... Ill never use it on a mini unless Im going to blow it up.

I don't mind topknots as long as they're not ridiculous looking, like on Abaddon or Ragnar. The plastic one is just fine in my opinion, as it looks somewhat plausible.

I don't think the model is lame at all, in fact when it came out all those years ago, it was probably the most detailed figure that Games Workshop had ever sculpted. I think it's a classic.

I'll agree that we need a resculpt as we're 3 editions of the game on from then, but for a figure that's over 15 years old (at least it says 1992 on the metal slotta-insert), it's not half bad !!!

After reading this thread (and almost finishing the Space Wolf omnibus) I have decide that I am going to make a new RBM model from scratch but before I do, and please shoot me down if I'm wrong, I'll add what I think he needs:

1) He has to be in an action pose probably a hand to hand type pose with his pistol holstered or at least not in action. Primary weapon has to be a double edged chainsword.

2) A big wolf pelt cloak.

3) Snow scene base.

4) Lots of Grenades.

5) Long matted hair (tied back).

6) No facial hair.

7) He has to be a head taller than the rest of the marines.

Things I don't know about:

8) Scars?

9) Any particular trophies?

10) Should he have a bolt pistol?

I'll start throwing him together and working some green stuff while I think about it and I'll add pictures as I go along.

I just thought he should be bigger...because he's a character? Now I think about that it's pretty weak reasoning. How about a wee bit broader, will you give me that much?

All I've done so far is strip out a chaos warriors amour because I want the furry shoulders and cape and file down a breastplate to have no icon but still have the wolf belt thing.

Still got to do the legs, which is where I would add any height.

I think what your looking for here is to place him on a mount of some type, the model itself does not need to be taller, however as a IC having him stand out in this way will give the affect your looking for.

If nothing else, glue a quarter to the bottom of the base.

I've been looking having a closer look at the cover of the Space Wolf Omnibus and it looks like he has one of those beards that has no mostache. You know the one that just covers the ching and joins the sideburns. I think, since he's a few hundred years old, he should have a wee bit of facial hair (contrary to what I said above).

Okay here's what I have come up with so far. I still have a lot of green stuff to sculpt around the wolf pelt, I need to thicken up the hair and add the pony tail and start working on the chest detail. I think my puppy has had off with his left arm...dammit.

Comments are more than welcome, cheers.

Here is an example of how I used basing as recommended by WG Vrox, above, to make a Chaplain in one of my other armies stand out. He's also on the larger, 40mm, base:

I really like where this model is going. I'd like to make a couple of "take them or leave them" suggestions:

I'd turn his head toward his right shoulder and incline it slightly. (Back or forward, it doesn't really matter) This will allow you to make a more dramatic pose with his lower body.

I'd also either raise or lower his sword slightly. Again, depending on the pose from the waist down, this will add some drama.

Above all, do NOT paint his hair black. The wolf has a blackmane, not him. (at least in original fluff)

Really nice model. Good luck.
