Ragnar Blackmane model!

LOL I didn't mean for you to take your basing off =P It was just that with the way the torso looked in the second pic that you put up in the post it looked like he was leaning sideways, all it needed was having the torso leaned so that it stood straight up or even a little back if he was howling for example (which you could also tilt his head back a tiny bit) then it would have looked REALLY good.

A very nice model indeed! I was just looking at the 2nd ed codex today, and made note of Ragnar being blonde, something they moved away from in 3rd. Maybe when we get a new Wolf codex in 5th, he'll be blonde again, and maybe we'll get a new mini.

That aside, yours is fantastic.

Ok I think he's almost ready for undercoat. I'm toying with the idea of adding a sheathed knife, termi honors, purity seals, wolfs tails and such but don't want to make him too busy? I took your advice and added the loin cloth, managed to leave the detail on the legs exposed, and I think it's looking much nicer. Thanks.

He is looking great. I Agree with Grimfoe about the sun burst though. Aside from that, I think he is perfect the way he is, any more and it will start to look too busy. One question though, is the loin cloth going to be fur or fabric? Ragnar is in dire need of an update, it has been the same model sense I started playing. Don't hurt me, but I also play Dark Angels (boo! hiss!) and Azrael's model is pretty ancient as well. Come to think of it, if your armor isn't a shade of blue, all the special character models are really old. Hmmm.

Edit:

Oh, and on the subject of hair color, in 2nd he had blond, in 3rd it was black, and it is also black on the cover of the books, but I don't recall if they ever specify what color it is in the book it self. William King has a bad habit of not describing his main character's appearance thoroughly. Maybe that's on purpose? Who knows. When I painted him I split the difference and gave him brown hair.

Thanks for all the help guys, I started painting yesterday but after a very expensive accident involving a puppy, a tub of open GW terracotta paint my girls new shag pile rug painting had to be stopped until today...when she's at work.

I've taken the skull off that knee like you suggested, but I left the burst that was backing it as I'm planning some free hand on that knee. I've not reall made much progress and it's not a great photo but any input, especially before I make a mistake, would be awesome.

I wouldn't change a thing, it looks 10x better than GW's ragnar model and the pose is really nice.

Only thing I would have done differently is make him "howling" instead of just a death stare into oblivion.

That's not oblivion, that's your soul.

Lookin good man!

First off let me say he is looking very good Capt mac,

Try something for me though and see if you like it. move him to the edge of the rock his Right foot is on and put a smaller flat rock or battlefield debris under his left foot which will give a slight tilt to the right but keeping his right foot posed higher than left. It will create a slight grove between his two feet but should give the appearence that he has climbed to an advantage point and is scoping out the battlefield or had just finished taking a hill and is looking for more carnage.

It maybe me but I can't get past the lean, only way I can explain it is it's not a natural looking pose when he is at that angle.

WG Vrox.

Oh and by the way I am also 5'5.5" tall

Are you also 10 and 3/4? Sorry,

Hey, just putting down what my medical records say, plus I can always say at least I am taller than Capt mac ;)

As for age, I am sure I have most of you pups beat on that one.

I must have been typing when you were posting that second picture. on that one I would suggest a head turn to the left and slightly down, not to much, but just enough to give the appearance that he is again scoping out the lay of the land. With his hair like that it will also create movement, suggesting wind coming over the hill/cliff

Remember, no matter how bad you are, there's always someone worse. Unless you are, in fact, the worst.

Well I have been going at him for a few hours but I can hear the whine from upstairs which indicates that my girl is demanding I turn the music off and drag my sorry carcass to bed. I have re-based him trying to take as much of what everyone said on board as I could. I'm still working on the NMM, it's the first time I've tried the technique so I might need to redo it a few times, its' really hard.

I've made it a wee bit bigger as asked...problem is now you can see all the mistakes :D .

dude, your NMM are amazing, and the pose is down perfect at this point. Dont change a thing, just finish it up. I'm impressed! Only suggestion I might have is to bring the wolf pelt up another shade of grey since it blends in with the armor right now (dont know if you arent finished with it yet, but yeah). Really really good job on the flesh as well, not easy to do.

Yeah those dreaded touchups, but we all understand that so no worries. What's really important is what do you think about the changes? It's hard to get a solid feel for it in 2D so you have to go with whats in your gut.

I personally like the changes so far and look forward to seeing more.
