Brother Captain Andrecus
I like to be able to concentrate, and nothing helps me concentrate so much as hearing the sound of my own voice. Yah, I talk to myself while I paint. It's weird, I know, but it works!!! jay79
It helps if there is total silence and lots of light. I find that movie/music background noise really screws up my concentration and I'll pick up the pace of my brush to the rythm of whatever music/tv/music noise there is which causes "brush panic". Silence is golden. Serraphim
When I'm building basic models (little to no conversions) I'm usually on the couch, hovered over the coffee table listening to what ever is on tv. For converting and painting, a newkie is necessary to calm my hands and relax my back. If there is no one watching tv then I'm listening to something off my iTunes. My tastes vary widely although I mainly like Metal. I have found Industrial awesome for painting, nothing like VNV, Combichrist, Rotersand and others to help the time disappear. gettothegone
Tea and my mp3 playlist. I have to be in the right mindset to paint. If I'm scatterbrained, nothing comes out right, and my models look brutal. If I'm calm and relaxed, they look just a bit better then brutal. The best thing to do is to put things away if you're finding yourself getting frustrated. First mistake of the night, and I'll usually turn it in depending how massive it is. Just make a commitment to painting, and realize no matter how good you are, there's always someone else who Ebay'd their Goldendemon quality paint job army more then willing to claim its their own. Once you get passed this barrier, the creativity and paint skill only grows through experience. Perry T
I always listen to music whenever i'm painting or modelling. I also read part of a book or the codex between coats on the models Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/149580-what-help-keep-your-consentration-when-paintingmodeling/page/4/#findComment-1864599 Share on other sites
popfenton
I tend to just turn on something so there is background noise, whether that is tv or music it doesn't really matter. I use to go up to my local store and paint but you get so much less done since we tend to just talk game at that point. eyescrossed
Since my little sister got a budgerigar, I haven't needed someone to talk to! But seriously, budgies are great if you need something to talk to that'll actually reply, even if you don't understand it. Brother Captain Andrecus
A budgie? My cousin got one of those recently... Maybe I should invest in one... Seriously though, I usually like it to be quiet... I can hear myself better. I go into my room (where my insanely disorganized modeling table is...) and close the door so no-one disturbs me... I'm known as a bit of a recluse, especially when I'm on a roll with painting. Sometimes I put a sign on my door that says "Do not disturb. Contents highly volatile when annoyed." I'll talk over color schemes and modeling ideas with myself... Once, I even formulated an entire battleplan for an upcoming game, all while painting. (Of course, my battleplan failed terribly... :) ) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/149580-what-help-keep-your-consentration-when-paintingmodeling/page/4/#findComment-1875337 Share on other sites

Naysmith
I usually listen to audiobooks. That keeps me very relaxed and entertained while concentrating on the mini. I tried TV too but it distracts me because of the moving pictures ;) . cya Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/149580-what-help-keep-your-consentration-when-paintingmodeling/page/4/#findComment-1878399 Share on other sites

Emita
Can of Dr Pepper and fire up the Mac and play some tunes; Raconteurs, Muse, Electric Six and Queens of the Stone Age makes good painting music for me. :whistling: Have a tendency to mutter to myself while painting, I like to think it makes me sane. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/149580-what-help-keep-your-consentration-when-paintingmodeling/page/4/#findComment-1882638 Share on other sites
LIONS_SPEAK
Well I talk to my friend on the telephone as we seem to have syncronised painting sessions. ( its a good job i get unlimited free calls.) Also when he isn't available my three border collie dogs are always up for a good debate. :P I find Tv and radio can be very distracting Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/149580-what-help-keep-your-consentration-when-paintingmodeling/page/4/#findComment-1883609 Share on other sites
RazakelXIII
NEED MUSIC. Otherwise I start losing it. :P Anything works - Electric Wizard, Tool, Eluveitie, Tea Party, Bôa, the BSG soundtracks, throw in some anime OSTs (Cowboy Bebop and FLCL mainly). Oooh, and cherry, grape, or strawberry flavored Tootsie Pops. God, I love those things. :) I used to usually have a can of Coke or something at the ready, but I stopped that after I accidentally dipped my paintbrush in it once. ALMOST drank out of it, too. :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/149580-what-help-keep-your-consentration-when-paintingmodeling/page/4/#findComment-1883639 Share on other sites
Cedric
Some random streaming music from Spotify, preferrably instrumental/ambient. And breaks. My neck grows stiff from painting. Short sessions prevent this. kraegus
interesting that a lot of people use drinks of some sort to steady their hand. Whenever I have anything with either caffeine or alcohol my concentration goes right out the window. I sit down, get some soundtracks from a movie going on my computer, and then flood my desk with light. and food comes nowhere near my table, because I might mistake that blob of jam from a PB and J for a blob of red paint and try and stick my brush in it ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/149580-what-help-keep-your-consentration-when-paintingmodeling/page/4/#findComment-1884099 Share on other sites
NemFX
Depends on the army/project.. Ultramarines: Whatever. Really. It's been a long time since I've really painted any of them. Lamenters: Again, whatever, generally anything reccomended on youtube. Servitors: Donkey Kong Country's song "Fear factory" Enclave: EnclaveRadio.com Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/149580-what-help-keep-your-consentration-when-paintingmodeling/page/4/#findComment-1884651 Share on other sites
Brayden
I normally "watch" a movie while assembling and getting rid of those pesky mould lines, then listen to music to paint, often with the assistance of Jim, Jack or Johnnie Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/149580-what-help-keep-your-consentration-when-paintingmodeling/page/4/#findComment-1884725 Share on other sites

killersquid
I normally "watch" a movie while assembling and getting rid of those pesky mould lines, then listen to music to paint, often with the assistance of Jim, Jack or Johnnie Aye same. Also, I tend to only be able to concentrate to paint things that I will use. I have marines that have been unpainted for years, but a daemon prince I wanted to add to my current armylist was built and painted over a weekend. I need background noise though, Movies mostly are what I use but TV works as well. Oh Repo!
