Askren
Oooook, so I've promised a few people shots of my stuff and what's going on, so I figure I'll just lump it all into one thread. First off: I play Ultramarines, and always will. II Company is the only real Company, IMO. -_- Keep in mind, my camera turns out a bit dark, so I do quick edits for clarity in Photobucket's built-in tool panel. That said, the man himself, Cato Sicarius. WIP, obviously. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v713/HunterMage/CIMG0741.jpg WIP Sternguard sarge. The rest are only basecoated and blue right now. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v713/HunterMage/CIMG0748.jpg Mostly done Company Champion. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v713/HunterMage/CIMG0743.jpg Attempting a hand-painted II Company Standard. I figure, if I can pull that off, hand painting other flags will be cake. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v713/HunterMage/CIMG0744.jpg 3 Veteran Sarges in the making. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v713/HunterMage/CIMG0745.jpg Full army shot to follow sometime tonight. C&C welcome, of course. Hate mail too. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/149642-wip-ultramarines-ii-company/ Share on other sites
Kerrigan
Why not use a transfer on your banner? Looks so much better. If you have trouble "melting" them on a curved surface, there are transfer weakeners available. Works perfectly. Askren
Because that's less awesome by a factor of 10. Go big, or don't go at all, amirite? Brother Corvus
They look really good! I personally think you should paint the banner on, but you may want to use pencil to mark out areas such as the head, feet etc. For the white helmets, you may want to thin oyur paint a little more, as I can see the paint is a tad splotchy. Normally, I paint on a small layer of shadow grey onto the basecoat, then followed by a thin layer of white. After that I wash it with blue. Fair chance my suggestion wasnt needed :) , as your doing a great job so far. Keep up the good work! ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/149642-wip-ultramarines-ii-company/#findComment-1739749 Share on other sites
Askren
To be honest, that helmet he's holding is the first time I HAVE basecoated with grey. And I've started using a wet-pallete, so my colors are about as thinned out as they can be without being mostly water. I still haven't found a way of ditching the lumpy look on white though. I did some more banner last night, but didn't take a picture. I'm only doing the base colors, because I don't know how I'm gonna paint the eagle (I've never done NMM, and this would be a bad model to try it and fail on) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/149642-wip-ultramarines-ii-company/#findComment-1739760 Share on other sites
Cl4d
The best way to get a good white, is... not to use white, use a very light grey and add some white to the grey, straight white is always or almost all the time crappy. Not really, it just takes a few coats, it took three coats of white on top of Ultramarines Blue for me to get a pristine white. (The last coat was thinned by a third to prevent the paint being too thick.
