Played in a Tornuament again, a fairly regular one and this time did badly. By this, I mean it was a knockout Tornuament and I only got 2 games out of a potential 3 (although by this point there were 4 with 2 wins and so I was out of the running anyway)

My list:

HQ

Wolf Priest Hörgr Power Weapon, Bolt Pistol, Iron Wolf Amulet

Venerable Dreadnought Raum Assault Cannon, Dreadnought Close Combat Weapon, Storm Bolter

Troops

Grey Hunter Pack Jorund 6 Grey Hunters. 5 Bolters, 1 Meltagun, 1 Power Fist, 1 Power Weapon

Skögul Razorback. Twin Linked Heavy Bolter, Smokes

Grey Hunter Pack Jorund 6 Grey Hunters. 5 Bolters, 1 Meltagun, 1 Power Fist, 1 Power Weapon

Skögul Razorback. Twin Linked Heavy Bolter, Smokes

Grey Hunter Pack Jorund 6 Grey Hunters. 5 Bolters, 1 Meltagun, 1 Power Fist, 1 Power Weapon

Skögul Razorback. Twin Linked Heavy Bolter, Smokes

Blood Claw Pack Grimhild 11 Blood Claws. 1 Power Weapon, 2 Power Fists

Wolf Guard Leader Grimhild Power Weapon, Bolt Pistol

Elites

Heavy Support

Asynjur Land Raider Crusader - As Codex, multi melta

Vindicator Siege Shield, Demolisher Cannon, Storm Bolter

Predator Autocannon, Heavy Bolters

First Battle vs Codex Marines (Soul Drinkers)

Librarian - Bike, Avenger Psychic and Might Psychic

10 man Tactical Squad - PF Sarge, Plasma Cannon, Plasma gun

6 Scouts - 1 Heavy Bolter, 1 Sniper Rifle

6 Bikes - PF Sarge, 2x Meltas

6 Termies - Cyclone

5 Assault Termies - Lightning Claws

Land Raider

This went badly. It started well enough, killing most of the scouts and a 5 man Combat squad with the Vindicator and a Razorback. Then over the course of the next three turns I lost the Crusader, most of the Blood Claws, 2 of the Grey Hunters Squads the Predator and a Razorback. He only lost his Raider in return Libr, though both Terminator Squads had taken casulties and only a single tactical marine was left. Eventually it ended 5-4, but he had 1 more turn than me. Had it gone to my turn the 3 remaining Assault Termies were facing the Vindicator, Dread and remaining Claws; and my last Hunter might have clobbered the Tactical Marine. I also might have been able to polish off the scouts with my Surviving Razorback. Still, them's that breaks.

Second game v Nids, Traffic on Ichar IV, Hive VII

I can only remember there was a Tyrant, Fex, Broodlord + 2 broods of Stealers, a Ravoner, Zoanthrope and lots of Gaunts. Also, Tanks on a Cityfight board is a pain.

Stand out moments of this match include - 6 Grey Hunters holding against a Tyrant and about 7 Gaunts for 4 rounds of combat; The Vindicator blowing chunks of alien everywhere; a Razorback being swarmed by Gaunts only to be stunned, reverse, be outflanked by Genestealers and the Broodlord who promptly fluffed it; t'other Stealers blowing up a Razorback only to have the Crusader and Predator smear them across the board; the battered remnants of the Broodlord and his unit charge 5 Hunters in cover, lose all the stealers and take a wound on the Lord before he eviserated the entire squad; a Carnifex sustain 3 wounds in one shooting phase, ducking into cover and then being charged by my Dreadnought who biffed it good;Bloodclaws charging and outnumbering the Gaunts; and finally the aforementioned Broodlord (who by now was extremely pissed off) charging vaingloriously into my Wolf Priest accompied by counterattacking Claws, inflicting 4 wounds on the already wounded old Priest. My opponent said as I picked up the dice "At least thats one more kill point." I responded with "Not if Russ smiles on him" and promptly made 4 4+ Inv Saves. In a fit of frustration all the Tyrant managed to do to a lone Razorback was dent the turret. Clearly not my opponents day, as I had a lot more KP's than him.

So, what do people think of the list? After a couple of not brilliant practice games and round one, I wondered whether I was (figratively) barking up the wrong side of Asaheim. Or was my luck just not in there?

I second getting rid of the pred... me an Omar hate those... ;)

I also second getting larger GH squads, giving them either rhinos or DP's and giving 1-2 pp's in each squad as well...

Giving your wolf priest some fenrisian wolves will help, especially since he doesn't have a WGBG, they're cheap and can save him from fisties.

No scouts?... That'd be the first thing I'd get. Probably in place of the pred. Dunno if I like the fists in your Gh squads, I usually don't run them as 1 Attack doesn't cut it for me. Find some points, get scouts, and I'd drop the Fists for PP if you want some power in your GH packs, could always add leaders to the squads and give them one. HF on the dread I think is always worth it. Other than those small things though I think it's a good list.

Oh and playing nyds in a cityfight is no fun.... Not at all.

I play Vass regulary and I started to do better against this list with my DA mech than against his old list. Get the semi out again... it works.

Yes. So successful it had become boring, in fact. I needed a change of pace, and this one currently has a 50% W/L record... which is acceptable for only 4 games. I'll run with it for a bit - but I have more ideas coming :)

@ Saphius - The Pred in fact replaced the scouts, and I've had much less success so at 1500pts they may well go back in. I like the 6 man squads, don't know why as tactically they are a bit... wonky. But they work for me, especially given the Razorback support. I have an aversion to plasma, something to do with 90% of my plasma blowing up... and actually, Nids on a cityfight board was one of the more atmospheric games I've played - although I suspect you'd have to have been there.

@ Wolf89/WolfLordLars - Waiting on the Hounds of Chaos :P My 6 man squads I'm sticking with, but as I type I have two 8 man squads on the go so I'll have a variety of options.

@ Ulrak - Thanks for the support. A bit more tweaking perhaps, and all the bad luck of the first game was instantly made up by the Wolf Priest passing all 4+ Inv saves against the Broodlord and then kicking his teeth in... a trophy may be called for

@ Greymage - The organisation was a bit confused. Only 9 people turned up, so we had an knockout round randomly determined and I was unlucky to have it. The second game was more of a PUG against another player who lost, and by then even by W/D/L points we were both well out of it. It was fun, and my record there (1st and 2nd) is hardly to be sniffed at.
