Grey Hunter Assault Pack

I've got a 10 or so helmets with the pelts kicking around

So I'm toying with the idea of a CCW & BP GH pack - think they'll look cool as I have a few assault running legs as well going spare

either for use from a pod or LRaider

6 BP and CCW, 2 x BP and PW and melta

Lead by 1 x WGPL PP and PF

Frags all round

Opinions appreciated

should I just stick with Claws or just build a true grit GH pack with a distinctive look?

Cheers

If you do the math, bloodclaws will do more damage in HtH per 1 point and the option to have more models in the squad and special CCW's, I'm not saying it's a bad idea to have CC Grey Hunters (especially if you're running a huge model count army that's CC with lots of blood claws and your mandatory 1 GH squad is assaulty too). I'm just saying they're not as cost effective as Blood Claws are with ccw's.

I myself have a squad of 10 GH that are fitted out for CC, they are ok for those days I want my assault guys not to be hit on 3's. they cost more but stay around a little longer, and they can have two PP's to add to the pre-charge shooting (who can hit on 3's)

And from time to time I use them as blood claws too if I feel like it, I just leave out the two PP guys.

I would say absolutely worth it. I'm a huge fan of mixed GH squads and having a few around gives you just that. If you have 6 models then Presonally I would Equip them 2 with BP PW, 2 with PP CCW, 1 with BP CCW, and 1 with a Special wep. (Probably melta) And the Pack leader however you choose.

Having this squad as a CC Grey Hunter pack is nice, but you can also mix them in with Boltered GH squads that you expect to get charged. I ran a Pod List last night that completely destroyed a fried of mine. And I did my GH packs as Follows - 5 With Bolters, 2 With PP CCW, 1 Melta, 2 With BP PW. +Leader / IC. When I wanted to shave points I'd drop the PW for Just CCW. This is really nice when getting counter charged, even having 2 or 3 guys with BP and CCW really increases your effectiveness on the Counter-Charge. And, when getting shot, you can alocate wounds however you feel is best. (On BP if you aren't expecting a charge/plan on charging, or a Bolter if Vice Versa).

Not to mention you can always run them as bloodclaws...

So to sum up, yeah, make them.

If its ten guys with pistols Im not sure Id drop pod them unless the rest of your force was reliably drop podding aswell. Now while giving everyone a landraider is wishful thinking I do think a rhino is atleast a better option for these guys. Just personal taste probly but *spreads hands*.

I for one enjoy the CC grey hunter squads. One thing I do think could be improved about the pack above though is that your giving the plasmapistol to the WGPL... give it to one of the six BP+CC guys. Theyll appreciate the favor of the wolf lord :) and youll be rewarded by not losing your champion o russ to overheats.

Space wolf like Plasma. Plasma like to overheat. Space wolf doesnt like to overheat. Freeze it with your icy fenrisian deathgrip Space Wolf, freeze it good!

Cheers guys

Think I'll go with the unit as I'm sure they'll look great but mix it up a little

WGPL Combi Flamer and PFist

2 x PW and BP

1 x PP and CCW

1 x BP and CCW

1 x MG

4 x Bolter and CCW

I was wanting to build a pack that looked different like an elite or veteran unit. I think all pelted helmets will give them

a distinctive look on the battlefield

I have to agree completely with what Jonny said. Sticking 2xpp, 1xpw, 1xpf and a flamer on a unit and throwing ragnar in there to lead them, oh man that's a crazy good unit. BC attack on the charge, but actually effective in the pre-charge shooting phase (something at which my BC's at least are VERY lackluster at). Pack these boys into a LRC with a WGPL decked out and a few wolves thrown in, yessir that's definately a crazy good unit.
