WIP Ultramarine Vet Sergeant

Here's some quick pics of my first Ultra vet sergeant.

He needs his pads freehanded, and his pack glued on.

I know he's got red paint on the axe haft, and gold in the crease of his shoulder. there's also a small mould line on the axe.

How do you folks like the poweraxe? I might have overdone the red shading. Probably should have just done black and quick transitions to red, but oh well.

Thanks for the replies, all.

His posing is indeed a bit off. He's a"refurb Marine" so I was working with the torso/head/legs pose the previous owner started with. If I could do him over, I'd have him looking down the sights of his bolt pistol.

I've got the first layer of his shoulderpad freehand down in grey. Next layer is pure white.

However, before I do that, I'd like to get some opinions. I tried freehanding his Crux Terminatus, and am relatively pleased with how the skull came out. Not too shabby, considering it was done with a red sbale, size 0 brush.

The thing I need help on is deciding what to do with the "crux" part. I'm trying to emulate the one sculted on a pad, or the knee of the AoBR Terminators. But the double-lined crux is hard to get right. Thus far, I've only got the lines. I'm tempted to just stop here, but I know I won't be happy with it if I do.

Should I leave it as just the skull, and erase the lines?

Push the lines out further, and do the double-line crux?

Or, push the lines out firther to thedges of the pad and do a solid crux?

If I leave the lines as-is and try to do the crux, it looks very odd, especially on the bottom.

Thanks for any input and opinion.
