Lord Ragnarok
Greets, When I first saw some of the Chaos renegades I was immediatley attracted to the Sons of Vengeance. For those who have read the chaos marine dex, how would you paint their scheme? Especially the red blotches throught the deep purple base color. Your help is greatly appreciated. Shaun Carlin
Wow 111 post views and no replies? Thats harsh, I feel your pain. After looking at that codex (For far too long) I finally found the guys you are talking about. I don't have any spare models otherwise I would paint one up but I will discribe how to do it as best I can. The Chaos army painter is not working for me so Im going to use the loyalist one. Main Armor Basecoat: Thier main armour colour is actually a Dark Blue so start by basing the mini with "Necron Abyss" Highlight the armour with a drybrush of "Regal blue". http://i34.tinypic.com/neugax.jpg Next is the red parts. You then have to dab on mechrite red using a small drybrush like this http://i35.tinypic.com/rc7z2o.jpg Prepare the paint as if you are going to drybrush it but then do this.. http://i34.tinypic.com/2zdxjcz.jpg In a backwards forwards motion (like tapping a pen on a desk) apply the paint in random areas on the armour. You are aiming for somthing like this http://i36.tinypic.com/2643jid.jpg Do not completly cover the armour just small areas. Next you may want to dull the red down a tad my Applying Delven mud wash http://i33.tinypic.com/5zp9ck.jpg The Helmits are painted in a standard red scheme and the trims are a chainmail with a Badab black wash. If you need me to elaborate let me know. Cheers good luck  Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/150102-painting-sons-of-vengeance/#findComment-1746156 Share on other sites
Lord Ragnarok
Thanks Shaun, I should have posted the page (page 24 btw). Thanks for the tips. I emailed GW and they replied with this..... I'll have to do some test minis. I talked with one of our veteran painters and he pointed me to this article: http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/...amp;aId=1100014. After the assembly, it shows how to paint a scheme similar to the one the Sons of Vengeance have. Following that as a guideline should be a good start. He added a couple of tips afterward. 1) Keep you paints thin, water them down. You will be using multiple layers of paint and if the paint is too thick the model will look bad. 2) Try to use colors that are a similar shade. In this case he suggested Scab Red and Regal Blue, they will look better together. Lord Ragnarok
Well, I'll probably do tests minis for yours too. I've not worked with regal blue previoiusly...I'm hoping it is more purple than blue.
