mailliw
Hey this is my first post here so hey. I am basically just getting back into the hobby as I was clearing and have found a box of Grey Hunters and a Gamesday wolf priest model and want to put them together for table top use in the future. I haven't played for ages and want to know if the configuration options for the models in C:SW (can't believe it hasn't been updated yet) are likely to be mostly the same because I don't want to waste models. How drastically different is the game now since 3rd ed? I also have alot of stuff I do not want anymore as I dislike re-painting models. Is this stuff likely to sell on e-bay? Its mostly 3rd ed stuff (codices & armies). I understand selling and trading here is not allowed but is a link in my sig allowed to my stuff I want to sell etc? So yeah hey again. Dark Bjoern
Welcome to the Fang, Brother. Sternhammer, my favorite Wolf Priest model. The rules have changed a lot since the 3rd Ed. But the 5th Ed loves the SW. GH are still our backbone and one or two packs with bolters and CCW are mandantory. In the past i had given them 1 fist and 1 power weapon but with the 5th i think 2 PW would be more useful (now you will get the +1A if you have a pair of fists) A meltagun or plasmagun is also a must. JEFF4i
Welcome! As Bjeorn said, I've learned that GHs with CCWs/Bolters are a must, usually. Course, I'm still a Blood Fang, :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/150117-newold-space-wolves-and-hi/#findComment-1744382 Share on other sites
dietrich
It's changed a lot in some ways, and very little in others. Don't know how up to speed you are on fifth, so if something doesn't make sense, just ask. For fith edition, he's a list of items to consider for your army: 1. Dedicated Anti-Tank: One or more AP1 weapons, Long-range or speed/durability or both 2. Mass Infantry Killing - Templates, a form of Pinning, and a way to ignore Cover saves 3. Troops must survive - Pass morale checks and regroup, Survive long-range shooting, and Survive assault 4. Troops must be mobile 5. Redundancy Here's my general thoughts on what is good: Attack bikes with multi-meltas. I'm not as sold on landspeeders with multi-meltas, but they work. Ven Dreads in a droppod with a multi-melta are one-dimensional, but really good at it. Dreads with twin-las and missile racks are a consideration for long-range anti-tank since they can move and fire both (where a pred annihilator can only move and fire one weapon). Whirlwinds are good, since they have a round to ignore cover, can pin, and have a template. Good vs orks, but can still do damage to even marines. SWs are pretty good at surviving and winning assaults. Have good leadership and can regroup below half. Are vulnerable to long-range shooting since SWs are fairly short-ranged shooting. I think having a Wolf Guard Pack Leader, or an IC, in each unit is almost a must. For a few points more, you get +1 LD, which helps with break tests and with passing Ld to get the extra attack from Countercharge. In addition, they have 2 base attacks, and have access to cheap powerfists, so I've moved fists on the pack leaders. For 5 points, you can add a combi-flamer, which is good, and for another five, a runic charm, and with wound allocation, that's huge. BC bikes are good (esp with a flamer and a couple power fists). Rhinos are good and help with survivability and mobility- they can either block LOS or be used to get our packs across the board, or both. You need someway to get a unit quickly across the board to claim or contest an objective. Now, there's lots of other options and possible builds. Taking a few Landraiders stuffed with Bloodclaws is an option. Vindicators are good. Predators with an autocannon in the turret and heavy bolter sponsons are pretty cheap. Wolf Guard in Tactical Dreadnaught Armor (aka Terminator) can be really good, but are expensive, with runic charms, heavy weapons, combi-weapons, and a mix of power weapons, power fists, thunderhammers, and chainfists. I still give Blood Claws the powerfist, but only because they get 3 attacks on the charge (and I have the models). It looks like it'll be at least a year before the next codex comes out. mailliw
thanks for the tips and info I should be getting the 5th ed rulebook soon. But want to get some minis to be converting/painting beforehand. muzzyman1981
Easily the best choice is Grey Hunters....can't live on the table without them 99% of the time. Plus there are enough of them to take a bit of time to paint and decide who gets what weaponry. Plus, they are gonna be around for awhile and easily convertable to different weapons through pull and paste =P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/150117-newold-space-wolves-and-hi/#findComment-1746865 Share on other sites
