Adir
So I have really gotten into the daemonhunters/inquisition in the past six months and have started thinking about an alien hunters list. Given the currently legal army lists and my model collection here is what I've come up with: Inquisitor lord w/hood, psycannon and retinue 2 HB servitors, 1 PC servitor mystic, 3 x acolytes mounted in a land raider 1 assassin (take your pick) 3 x deathcult assassins 3 x 10 man IST (2 pgs, 2 mgs, 2 flamers) 2 x rhinos (mount the flamer IST and mg IST squads) 2 x 15 man kroot carnivore squads with eviscerator 1 x kroot hound pack (10 kroot, 20 hounds) The reason I am posting here rather than in the army lists section is whether people think this is a fluffy alien hunters list (taking kroot mercenaries and using the psycannon). I would also like to take a squad of deathwatch marines as the second HQ choice. Any thoughts as to whether this is legal or not? Deathwatch kill teams are not taken as allies per se rather they are "inlcuded" in any imperium army as an HQ choice (full team with captain). Thoughts? Reclusiarch Darius
Yeah, taking the Deathwatch Kill-team as your second HQ is fine. Just a note, the PDF tells you to refer to the 'Space Marine armoury', which I RAI (ie commonsense) to mean 'same options as the character in the 5th edition SM codex'. So, going on that premise; DW Epistolary, Force Dome, Might of the Ancients, force weapon, combi-plasma, inferno rounds, psychic hood DW Veteran w/bolter+powerfist DW Marine w/heavy bolter+Hellfire rounds DW Marine w/plasma gun 3 x DW Marines w/bolters+inferno rounds (361 points) Overall it's a pretty powerful squad. The Epistolary is pretty flexible, able to switch from defending the squad with Force Dome to ripping apart opponents in close-combat with a S6 force weapon (plus he'll tear armour apart as well). He also contributes to the squad rapid-firing inferno bolts tally, and always has 4 attacks. Plus he can always contribute some combi-plasma for killing FNP/2+ save/high Toughness beasties. The Veteran w/ powerfist took a bit of a hit under 5th edition (he can't claim the extra attack from True Grit, so he only has two attacks normally), but he's still dangerous. The heavy bolter Marine is as good as always (even though his gear got copied by SM Scouts), and the plasma gunner deals with stuff their inferno bolts can't handle. The regular chumps supply the basic anti-infantry (along with the heavy bolter) and ablative wounds when the squad takes enemy fire. With 3+/5+ (thanks to the Force Dome) they are pretty tough. It is expensive but with all their special wargear and Deepstrike ability they're a pretty potent spearhead to your force. Adir
RD I am liking the squad loadout and the libbie upgrade (especially getting a crack at the new libbie powers). Where do you get that he can be an epistolary though? Also, any thoughts on taking the kroot as allies? That seems to be kosher with the current rules. Grand Master Tyrak
Not sure about including both DW and Kroot - I doubt the DW would accept that. Maybe if DW are your Chamber Militant (you use them if you are a Puritan), and Kroot replace DW if you want to play a Radical list? Where do you get that he can be an epistolary though? It's a 'Librarian only' upgrade option :) . Therefore (mind you, this is my RAI), he can upgrade further to an Epistolary (remember, DW Codicier is same cost as regular Libby). Also, any thoughts on taking the kroot as allies? That seems to be kosher with the current rules. Yeah, it's legal, but I would treat Deathwatch and Kroot like Grey Knights and Daemonhosts. After all, the Chamber Militant specialises in annhilating the chosen enemy of the Order, so Inquisitors that use aliens/daemons would be viewed as heretics and therefore unable to get Deathwatch/Grey Knight help. Purely a fluff quibble, feel free to do whatever you want with your army. Adir
I somewhat figured that the Deathwatch would not take part in a "radical" inquisition (i.e. the inclusion of alien races). In this case a bit of a shame as this list really needs some extra punch. Seeing as how I am looking at this more from a fluff perspective, the DW are out and the kroot are in! Is there any readily linkable info on a radical xenos inquisitor? Has anyone tried running a list like this? I am very much drawn to the lack of power armor (bit overwhelmed by MEQ lists with the new marine codex out) and want to try a list that is more GEQ friendly (lots of T3 and Sv4+). Eltnot
From memory, I don't think you can take Kroot Mercs with either WH or DH. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/150414-ordos-xenos-background-list/#findComment-1752637 Share on other sites
Grand Master Tyrak
Eltnot Posted Today, 02:35 AM From memory, I don't think you can take Kroot Mercs with either WH or DH. The original FAQ only states that you cannot take Inquisition allies if you ally with anyone else (Kroot). I assume the principle would carry over to the Inq. itself (no Xenos allowed), but GW didn't put it in writing. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/150414-ordos-xenos-background-list/#findComment-1752874 Share on other sites
Adir
Actually, the kroot mercs list explicitly state those armies that CANNOT take kroot as allies: Space Marines, Necrons, Sisters of Battle, Tau, Tyranids Given the fact that Daemonhunters do not appear in this list, taking kroot alongside the inquisition is legal. The deathwatch can be "included in any Imperium army as an HQ choice" - the entry goes on to state that Daemonhunters count as an Inquisitorial army. Note that the deathwatch are not taken as allies here, rather they are effectively a replacement HQ choice. In this case, the notion of 2 distinct allies does not apply. The taxonomy of such a list looks like this: Daemonhunters (main army list) --->HQ selection -----> Deathwatch (replaces an HQ choice) --->2 x troop --->Other FOC selection -->Kroot mercs (ally) --->2 x troop --->1 x HQ, elite, fast, heavy So without further ado, here is a 1750pts Ordos Xenos list: HQ: Xenoshunter Inquistor, Psycannon, Psychic hood 2 x Gun servitor HB 1 x Gun servitor PC 3 x Acolyte w/artificer armor 1 x Familiar 1 x Sage 2 x Mystic Unit Total: 277 Land raider transport 258 Elite: Eversor assassin Unit Total: 95 Inquisitor w/Psycannon Unit Total: 50 Inquisitor w/Incinerator Unit Total: 35 Troops: IST x 10 w/2 plasma guns 120 IST x 10 w/2 meltagun + rhino 178 IST x 9 w/2 flamers 158 Kroot carnivore x 15 + shaper w/eviscerator 166 Kroot carnivore x 15 + shaper w/eviscerator 166 Fast attack Kroot hound squad 10 x kroot carnivores + shaper w/eviscerator 20 x kroot hounds Unit Total: 246 The inquistor lord and the IST plasma squad with attached psycannon inquisitor maintain a gunline protected by the landraider for mobility and the eversor as counter charge. The inquisitor with incinerator attached to the mounted flamer squad to go infantry hunting and the mounted melta squad goes after armor. The kroot squads either outflank or infiltrate, going after buried armor or hidden light infantry. Certainly not the most competitive list, but this is the closest I have found to a RAW legal, radical ordos xenos list. I would also convert some alien races to 'count as' various members of the inquisitorial retinue.
