Nameless marines - wip

Still doubting whether I should go for a templar theme or just make them "regular" marines. So I'm still undecided about markings and stuff... missing backpacks, basing will be added this week.

3 weeks after my first tries I'm it feels like I'm getting the hang of waterbased painting. Layers are getting thinner.

Feedback and advice will be much appreciated.

In my opinion the only things that could use some more work is the reds (specifically the highlights) on the bolters and the sergeant's skin tones.

The rest is great and I really like your lenses + the wear and tear & dirtied metallics. :)

Very very nice. You mind shedding some light onto the color choices? I do like the metallic shoulder pads, but am wondering why there's a brass and silver one, and then the brown/brass right shin greaves, and silver left shin greave.

Besides that, which is just for my own curiosity, I concur with Brother Nihm, a bit more dynamic highlighting on the reds, a deepening of the Sergeant's skin tones, and finally maybe a few highlights of Ice Blue (or something more electric) for the lightning on the Chainsword.

I just thought it looked pretty cool. I wanted a little bit of variation depending on the angle you view the mini's. It's bronze and bolt metal, no browns. The shin greaves painted according to the shoulder pads.

Here you can see marines with white kneepads. (yeah I know: more color! But this will be a nice future spot for squad designations)

Thanks for the c&c. I've just finished reworking the face and will try to make a decent picture tomorrow by daylight.

So here are a few -allmost finished- marines side by side to clarify my color-scheme.

I' still have to choose from which chapter they come. I'm considering the black templars. Possible names I like are: Star Templars, Tempest Force, Emperor's Grey, Nova Templars, Nova Crusaders

If I go for a Ultra Marine branch, names like Tempest Marines, Nova Troopers are sounding rather good to me.

This game is still new to me, so any suggestions concerning chapter choise will be welcome!

Wow,

Considering you're stated as a noob that just wanted to paint, I am pretty impressed with how they look so far. There is some pretty decent detailing in there. I think some quick highlighting will deffinatly add a little more detail to the model. The basing on the model you've done so far is alright. But it comes out better if the static grass is used more sparsely. Like, put down some sand on the base and paint that a brown like dirt colour, then highlight it and add the grass in patches, Depending on the terrain you can asdd small clumps of large clumps. But it just looks a litle better with a sand base for some reason. But keep up the good work! I look forward to seeing your HQ choice.
