Legion Colors

Recommended Posts

I want to make some pre-heresy models for fun. I don't know what colors the legions were before. I know that many legions changed their colors after the heresy. So it would be great if you guys could help.

The ones I know (correct me if wrong) :

Blood Angels: Red and Gold trim

Ultramarines: Blue and Gold trim

World Eaters: White and Blue trim

Emperor's Children: purple with gold trim

Imperial Fist: yellow with black trim

Death Gaurd: ?

Word Bearers: ?

Luna Wolves: white and ? trim

Dark Angels: dark green and ? trim

Space Wolves: blue grey and ? trim

Alpha Legion: dark tealish green and ? trim

Thousand Sons: ?

Irond Hands: ?

Iron Warrios: silver and ? trim

White Scars: white and ? trim

Salamanders: light green and ? trim

Raven Gaurd: black and ? trim

Night Lords: dark blue with ? trim

Please note that these are not the current chapter colors. They are the Legion colors.

Thanks

Captain Kael :D

DG Terminator suits are plain metal, not the white/green colours that the rest of the Legion uses. I believe the same is true for the IH veterans.

If you can get hold of the Index Astartes articles they include a picture of (Insert Legion)'s colour scheme in addtion to the current scheme.

Blood Angels: Red and Gold trim
The BA IA article shows mid-heresy Beakies as being trimless but with black gun casings. the Horus Heresy artbook shows a mix of red, black, silver and gold trims, but with most of the gold trimmed BA identified as being Veteran squads.

The dark angels where black with a red chapter icon.

Theres conflicting fluff on that, the IA article clearly shows the pre-heresy scheme to be black with a white chapter badge. The cover to Descent of Angels shows them as black with white shoulderpads with gold trims, with black chapter badges on the pads and red markings on the tabards. Whilst the Horus Heresy Artbook both reprints the pre-heresy pic from the IA article, but also shows some marines with greeny-black armour and red chapter badges.

The Raven Guard's colors, pre-heresy, were all black, with the right shoulder pads scheme denoting squad type.. i believe that one example used in the RGs IA article, the tactical marine shoulder pad from the RG was half green, half black; the assault marine was quite abit like a black widow black, with a red hourglass looking design. Also, depending on the Mk. of armor, the Legion symbol (the white raven that is seen in the current chapter) would be on the left shin (really, if both shoulder pads were studded)

hope that helps you with the raven guard

sorry to ask this but what colour is the Sons of Horus Powew Armour on the gw colour chart?????

They don't use a straight up GW colour. The closest I've seen to the proper colours is:

Theres a recipe in the 4th post.

Thanks for the help guys.

I am planning to also make a Horus mini and wanted to know what he wore. I remember him wearing white power armour with gold trim and I think a fur coat. I think thats what is said in Horus Rising.

But thanks! :)

Haha! I almost forgot than horrible mini GW made for Alpharius!! The head is funny to say the least... :P

Apologies friend, Games Workshop did not make that miniature. It was made by the US Team for Games Day 2007, I believe. They also made Dorn, Perturabo, Khan, Johnson, Ferrus and Fulgrim.

In Legion, the Alpha Legion are described as Purple. Miniatures are always an artistic license.

in the book legion, i believe the leadership of the alphas MAY or may not be denoted with silver trim (we dont know for sure, because the alpha legion are so secretive in their ways ;) )

to the OP: what sort of pre-heresy models are you planning on making?? are you thinking captains or other leadership types, or your average line trooper?

Planing to make average troopers first. If I am satisified with the troopers than I will create captains.
