Night Lords - Chaos Terminator Squad

Hi All,

Here's a few shots of my finished Night Lord Terminators. I'm pretty pleased with the squad, the Captain especially, and how the lightning effect looks on the whole squad. This was the first time that I painted the figures as a squad and I think that I picked up a few tips along the way. I'm also happy with how the metallics worked out as although I started with a dark brass look the golden highlights really added someting. Anyway, I would really appreciate your comments and criticisms as it will help me become a better painter.

Cheers,

Really awesome. I agree with Cathar the Great. The claws kind of blend into the rest of the model.

The detail on the lightning is really exceptional.

But I have a question, as a non-chaos player, I've never gotten a set with the trophy rack, and I was wondering, in the first two pictures. (individual, not squad) on the guy's racks, theres some brown blob-ish looking thing. What are they?

Thanks for the kind words! I really enjoyed painting these guys albeit assembling the trophy racks were a pain. I 'borrowed' the idea for the skull helms from Brother Nihm and used his figures as a basis for my own guys. I thought that as these characters would be veterans that they would have more lightning coursing around them - and thought that it would be a nice alternative having lightning on the lightning claws. But I can see how the look could be a bit over the top. The pouches on the trophy racks I took for either a voodoo package of teeth and small bones from a victim or perhaps some sort of grenade weapon to use against others?

I felt that with these figures and the Night Lord Hero I painted recently that my painting skills are slowly getting better - but this is in part all down to your suggestions and comments. The bases on these are the best I've done so far and I'm really wanting to be more adventurous.

Being critical I find red difficult to highlight effectively which is why it might look less vivid than it should and the horns were difficult for me as I still can't find the right method to paint them - do you chaps have any ideas?

Great stuff,

the lightning claws(as stated by others)should have been a different color, but thats neither here nor there :P

the horns - base with calthan brown, first coat khemri(leaving calthan showing in deep creases),

then drybrush(very lightly) with bleached bone to bring out all the detail then wash in the gaps with ogryn flesh or gryphonne sepia to make it pop! very easy ,very fast(foundation paints go on so well).

congrats on the good lightning and skull helm effects  a whole army of these will rock!

Cheers for the suggestions on the horns - I'll give it a go. ;)

Beautiful, love the shades may i ask what you used for the wire on the base i need something like that for mine i dont have very many of my bases done because i for some reason cant find something like that.

Thanks for the comments. The basing was from the 40K basing kit and the barbed wire was also from Games Workshop - http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/...otCatGameStyle=

I hope that helps? ;)

wow, nice job on the lightning effect.

what colors did you use for the gold? :P

Cheers! The gold was started with a base of Tin Bitz, wash of Devlan Mud, A 50:50 mix of Tin Bitz and Brazen Brass and finally a 50:50 mix of Brazen Brass and Shining Gold.
