Slowly Scratchbuilding a Warhound Titan

Full-choke

Recommended Posts

I have been working on building a Warhound Scout Titan off of a walker model from the game Dust. The process has been going fairly slow as I have been designing and building at the same time. The last of the plastic needed to finish the model arrived today so I will be able to start working on finishing it up tonight and this weekend. My hopes are to have it primed and ready for paint by the end of the weekend.

This titan is going to receive dual turbo-lasers for weapons. The second walker that I purchased is going to be equipped with an Inferno Cannon and Mega Bolter. I figure between those two styles I ought to be able to cover anything from other super heavies to lots of 'nids or traitor guard.

Any suggestions or improvments would be helpful, I am thinking the head needs something a little more. I added some lights to it last night, but the cockpit windows just don't have a good feel to it yet.

Well, it prolly could go in the scratchbuild forum but it is going to get painted up for my Ad Mech force that I am putting together. That's the only reason I put it in here. The eventual plan is to build the two Warhounds, next on the docket is scratchbuilding 2 Knight Class Titans and then I want to completely scratchbuild a Reaver. As of current I have a few of the tanks I want, and my elite choices. I am waiting for my models to come in for my troops choices. I also need to pick up a few sentinels and I am going to do some conversion work to build a couple of support weapon platforms. The eventual plan is to have a small Titan Legion and support group able to be fielded in an Apoc game. We have a couple of Deamon players that need slapped around as they seem to think it is fun to bring out large demons that only super heavies can take down. I saw this as a much cheaper option to give them a little taste of their own medicine.

Hehe...well, knowing the two brothers that play deamons, they will be completely surprised to see them come across the table at them. The last big Apoc game we played at 5th Edition release the one brother fielded a grand total of 3 Greater Deamons, I fielded a Shadowsword, Terminus LR, Crusader, 20 Termies and some other stuff...didn't stand a chance. He ate my Steel Crusaders and my friends Imp Guard alive, he walked away with maybe one or two wounds total. The hope is to be able to thump the 'Cheese Brothers' hard in a few months.

Also, I have been reading my way through Titanicus (gaining inspiration for the projects) and I noticed something of interest. Somewhere around the middle of the book where the Warlord Nichomach Ignix gets into it with a Warhound, it says that the warhound has a Close Combat arm! Now, I know the Forgeworld models don't have anything, and as best I can find there are no rules out there. Does anyone know of any experimental rules for a Warhound and a Close Combat Weapon. I happen to think it would be super to have a Titan sized Power Fist ripping off the head of a Greater Deamon.

Did a little thinking over lunch and finally decided on a name for my Titan Legion. Legio Erratus named for the Babylonian god Erra, god of war, death & disasters...it only seemed appropriate. The Titans will all be named after some kind of god of war or death, etc. This Titan has already been dubbed by my friend as Letum Lokis so named for Loki, Viking god of Fire. I think the other Warhound is most likely going to get Pestis Donar for the Teutonic god of thunder and warlike strength. Any other cool god names that have a good meaning for something to do with war and destruction, send them my way!

Also, found this kind of interesting...in looking up Latin words over break I found that the latin word for "huge" is "ingens". Kind of ironic I thought that titans are often referred to as engines, I don't know if it was meant to be that way but thought it was kind of cool.

Hi F-C rules for titan close combat weapons are in the apoc book. Little Generic to be honest, I'm sure we could put our minds to it and come up with something more awesome. I will probably build some CC weapons for Odin my Warlord in time, maybe a claw and wrecking ball, when you consider the weapons themselves will be BIGGER than a reaver Titan they should certainly carry a little more destructive potential me thinks!!! When built I will more than likely make some rules to go with them, oh for the time!

If your wanting some nice rules for a Grey knight titan as well as inspiration there are some on my webpage at Titan Legion (bottom right text link)

I know the hound weapon your talking about, just read the same section my self, if you can grab a copy of White dwarf 142 it has pictures of all the epic titan weapons, good reference as I am going to be using it to build my Corvus assault pod. coincidentaly there seems to be a picture of my old Ultramarine army on the back cover too, hell, that brings back some memories!!!

Ok, I got it completely assembled and painted this weekend. Sadly nothing else that needed done this weekend happened but the finished product is here. I will let the pics do the talking...

I still need to add some gravel and grass to the base, but other then that it is done. I spotted a few touch up spots that I need to hit this week as well, smooth out the paint job a little bit better. The only thing I am not pleased with is the seams in between the chunks of plastic card. I have tried working green stuff in and smoothing it out, and I have done super glue and tried to grind it off. I have never found a way of smoothing out cracks very well...does anybody have any ideas? I was thinking elmer's white glue maybe?!?! ;) but I just don't know what to do to get the seams any smoother.
