the first pack i'D like to show you is my priests honourguard.

here's their backgroundinfo.:

this packs members were selected by the priest himself to join him in battle and protect him in danger.

all of them should be equal and none of them should have individual equipment, but the weapons the member prefers.

normaly they're equiped with at least one energy-weapon.

when becoming part of the pack they'll get a red cape to set them appart from the other packs. further they are not allowed to remove their helmets during battle.

the capes are made of real cloth. i used this tecnique for the first time about 12 or 13 years ago, when i gave my first dark angels some robes. little later i explained it here and there in the internet and called it real-clothing. ;-)

the idea is to take real cloth, cut it roughly, glue it partialy to the model with superglue and then bring it into shape with small sciccors and tweezers until it's finished.

the superglue should be thin fluid and used with care, because when reacting with the cotton it heats up the material and some vapors arise, that are neither good for nose, nore for the eyes.

for thin and clean structures silk can be used pretty good. and for rough structures in my case e.g. old cotton-t-shirts.

i made the capes for this 10 minis in about 1 hour. ... so compared to GS it's pretty fast.

btw:

here's another mini i made using the same tecnique.:

They look really good. Can't wait to see 'em painted!

The other guy looks great too - when I first saw him I thought you should give him a 'proper' pad on the left arm and paint him as a Dark Angel, but that may just be me.

Thanks for the heads up on the cloth technique - I was thinking something like that would work and now I know it does I can go ahead and do the conversion I was thinking off (Hello Necromunda sniper!) as well as one I have just thought up while typing this (bolter scouts with cloaks). I second the above comment.

Very cool stuff. How do the capes react to paint? Do you seal them with something before painting or does the glue itself do the job? How do they hold up in travel?

normaly you don't need to seal it. if the glue was thinfluid enough and realy all over the whole cape it becomes as hard as plastic.

how firm it is, depends on the cloth chosen. e.g. silk could break pretty easy because the cloth becomes realy stiff and is no more flexible at all after drying.

i recommend not to mix models wearing cloth like this with robes done with GS or such models that wear robes with smooth robes already when they come from the blister. because the difference between the surfaces' structures simply to big. when GS or games workshops original robes or cloth don't have any structure at all and therefore are pretty smooth and even, with RC the structure highly depends on which cloth you used, how thick the structure is and if you did some "postprocessing".

i mean you can also just use this technique to define the form and raw structure of e.g. a robe or cape you want to attach to a certain model and than afterwards polish it to smooth the surface. and than you could put a layer of GS on it.

putting more glue on it will also smooth the surface, but to be honest, you'll never get it that smooth as if you did it completely out of GS.
