Behamorr
http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b73/shasolenzabi/3SMDR/TacticalMarine.jpg Origins: Chapter Name: Dragons Errant Founding date: Records Lost Founding Designation: Unknown or Classified Status:Formerly unknown, rediscovered on the Eastern Fringe Loyalty: Suspect Gene-seed: Salamander Background: The Dragons Errant were likely Activated from Salamander stock, as they exhibit some odd mutations of the bone structure. The Dragons Errant were directed on many occassions to go and deal with wayward Governors for not sending tithes, a task that seemed pointless as the Imperial Guard could do the job, and also not the challenge the Dragons felt befitted such a force as Marines. When they could, they would on their own volition assault worlds where xenos incursions happened, and found they had a talent for annihilating hostile aliens far in excess of their mission parameters, The leader, the first Master, Behamorr, decided that each battle report would have a larger amount of casualties reported, thus tricking the high-lords into sending a higher amount of replacement Gene-seed when such was reported as a total loss and unrecoverable by the chapter. The Dragons Errant ceased communications a while back, and this was taken as their being destroyed or lost and the High-lords opted or had forgotten about the Dragons Errant, and they were listed as lost. The Salamander Gene-seed was selected due to the stubborn nature of such marines, and truly, the Dragons Errant may suffer that Stubborness, and some would say arrogance as they refuse to quit the field when it would be a better idea, this has been bad and fortuitous for them. The Dragons also suffered another side effect, they had a series of stabilized mutations that made it harder for their leaders and veterans to go helmet-less amongst other Imperial worlds. It was this other factor along with their disgust at what they felt were "self defeating" policies enacted by the High-lords of terra, disconnected from the rest of the Imperium staying secure on Terra. Appearance: The armor of the Dragons Errant is a mating of Regal Blue with minor areas colored in shadow gray, all trim and other markings are in shining gold. http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b73/shasolenzabi/3SMDR/TacticalMarine.jpg the mutations the chapter suffers are some increases in size, but mostly sharpened teeth, croccodilian pupils, and a heavy eye-ridge and crest comb of spiny structures, their markings, once they discovered they were salamander based, is the slalamander dragon head with a wing as the back of the head to represent their having been sent so wayward. Homeworld: The Dragons Errant, due to the nature of their mutations, and importantly, the nature of their methods of recruitment and warfare, reside aboard a fleet of vessels, staying mobile and aloof from worlds where they could possibly be tied down. They recruit from a variety of worlds preferring the most inhospitable ones for their heartiest stock to select from.,,,the Dragons Errant seem to prefer ice-worlds, as well as dark worlds to gather their recruits from, and the fleet then moves on. This method allows the Dragons Errant exact numbers, disposition, and where-a-bouts to be hard to pin down. This also allows them to strike and respond rapidly to threats, and calls for assistance. Beliefs: The Dragons Errant believe that they were wrongly used by the High-lords, and that the High-lords are as corrupt as the Great Enemy. But being out in the dark depths of the Eastern Fringe, they have learned that there are more immediate problems to concern themselves with, The Imperium needs competent Governors, and those that are abusive have been removed by the Dragons errant, and the planets given some guidance as to be a better place and more productive than before, not all worlds they have helped in this way have gone so well, the new governor deciding that he can be the new overlord once the Dragons have left and exerting his own tyrannical rule over his people, some populations even revolted against the Dragons and attacked their liberators, only to have to have been killed in return as the Dragons had to make to their Thunder-hawks and leave the worlds. The dragons Errant have worked closely and recruit much of their number from worlds of the Khadrovian Konfederation, a group of worlds loyal to the Emperor, but mistrustful of the High-Lords. The Dragons Errant believe that the Imperium is in need of their return, even though they have as yet not discovered a way to rid themselves of the hated mutations, and that the need is caused by more and more assaults by Tyranids, the awakening Necrons, and the ever present Orks as well as chaos forces they have encountered. The Eldar and Dark Eldar are never to be trusted, and the Tau are a low level threat militarily speaking, due to a low population, and the fact they have to face off against the mentioned threats as well as they forge their own empire. Battlefield Doctrine: The Dragons Errant believe that it is wise to study the enemy and learn his strengths and weaknesses before committing to action lest surprise overwhelm them and they lose to something they didn't know the enemy had amongst their arsenal. This does not mean they will not attack if the case demands rapid action, merely they prefer to know what they are getting into. The Dragons Errant utilize many squads with minimal vehicle support, Devastator squads being harder to eliminate than tanks, and they see this merely proves that heroic individuals and not toys will win the day! The Chapter believes in making the most of that heroism and many of the sargeants are armed with power weapons, and the officers are noted for charging at the enemy command as fast as they can. Now the Dragons are so assured they will win that they have held onto to the fighting even when it has done them more harm than good, the Dragons never give in and never surrender. Though this attitude has lost them battles, it has also prevented them in some instances from being defeated, and even has won them a few battles even when all looked bad for them. The most widely used assault weapons used by the tactical squads is either the ubiquitous flamer, or the Trusty Melta. They use the the flexible Missile Launcher to inflict damage on tanks, and the devastators are responsible for using las-cannon+Multi-Meltas in Unison against heavy tanks. When facing hordes, the Devastators will kit with Plasma cannons and heavy bolters. Vindicators are used for urban fights and Whirlwinds are used for all battlefields. History: The Dragons Errant full history is most likely only to be found on the data records aboard their fleet vessels, as they have no home-world, and also likely that their records may have been lost or destroyed during one of the informational purges the Imperium conducts every so often. What can be ascertained is that what records exist indicate the Dragons Errant could no longer contain their distaste at crushing worlds that were falling behind for minor reasons in their Tithe contributions to the Imperium. As stated before, they discovered a talent for slaying the enemies of Mankind, the xenos that dared to invade and sully the Emperor's realm. When they discovered that the High-Lords had sent them to crush a world that had suffered a plague, and therefore could not send troops due to the losses amongst the population, and the High-lords having made NO exceptions or dispensations for such a tragedy, the Dragons gave the people what support they could, and left the world alone, with advice on how to make more efficient use of their resources, that would allow them to make tithe in resources until they could send raised regiments. A year later, when they returned to investigate the progress of the recovering population, they found the planet had been burned clean by cyclonic torpedoes. This and other crimes against the Emperor's people angered the Dragons Errant, who had felt that they had made a success from a disaster, only to find the world they helped in ashes. They threw themselves with renewed fury at whatever Xenos they could find that had transgressed the Imperium, and reported fifty losses for every five they suffered, in time, they had received plenty of spare Gene-seed, their fleet had grown over the years as they confiscated vessels from several sources, mostly pirates who they put to the sword, and errant smugglers. Their numbers unknown, and their fleet floating in the deep reaches beyond the normal Imperial worlds, whether they have numbers along the lines of the Black Templars, or just a few companies is hard to determine at this time. They have also set to searching for some way to cleanse their Gene-Seed from the taint of the mutations stated above, thus far, it appears that cure has eluded them. Recently, the Dragons Errant had come to the Attention of the Imperium during their attempted intervention at a fringe system named New Oregon. There, they covered the retreat of the army of the Khadrovian Konfederacy, also recently discovered to be Emperor Lovers that feel the High-Lords are corrupt, and not to be trusted, whether this influence is the result of their own politics, or from the Dragons Errant is also unknown, further investigations would have to be conducted by the Inquisition as this represents a schism in the Imperial cult. What is known is that the Dragons Errant, and this heretical sect of the Imperial Cult seem to be working in some fashion together. Recruitment: As had been said before, the Dragons prefer to recruit from worlds of harsh climactic conditions and or low light where the population has adapted with low light vision and the ability to deal with cold temperatures. As most chapters have done in the past, they have set rules for the applicants to be conducted into ritual contests of skill, stamina, strength and courage. Needless to say. this process usually is lethal to those unfit for the place amongst the Dragons Errant that they seek, then they must survive the rigorous Marine indoctrinations, and surgeries. Organization: To what has been seen by those that have observed them, the Dragons Errant seem mostly followers of Codex regulations, but seem to employ a term referred to as a "wing" these "Dragon wings" are mostly referred to as "Combat or Assault, or attack wings, there have also been Invasions using multiple "wings" some observers think this could be anywhere from a single squad on a patrol to entire companies. If a company, the Dragons Errant have been noted to fight the Necrons with a force far larger than a company, perhaps, taking a page from other chapters, they have assembled "Great Companies" or even "Crusade" like the Black Templar, the Dragons errant have managed to be elusive enough thus far to have their exact organization and numbers to be unknown. The Inquisition may well have a team attempting to find and track them to some central meeting amongst them and find out the truth. So far, this has borne no fruit. Battle Cry: The Dragons Errant rarely let loose with a battle cry as it would be a waste of energy, but in some circumstances, the need to whip up the battle brothers, and unnerve the enemy is seen as a good tool, then they yell the usual "For the Emperor!", or on occassions, "Humanity over All!" And at other times, to make some of the civilized opponents worry, they merely use their Vox-speakers at full volume as they roar like the namesake they take their name from, a gutteral throaty sound that does not sound human. All of these are considered battle-field theatrics more than psychological tricks, for the battle brothers, the litanies and battle hymns are quite sufficient for the uplifting of their battle spirits. Motto: "As long as we Dragons are united, there is no foe we cannot defeat, and no obstacle we cannot overcome!" Battles: So far, the Dragons Errant since they re-appeared, have not fared so well in clashes with forces of the Imperium, and lost to the chapter(formerly Legion), that they have their gene-seed derived from, though the Dragons Errant have no idea about the source of their Gene-seed. Against the forces of chaos, they had been thrashed badly, and then came back with both armies unable to gain a distinct advantage over the other, the Dragons Errant have vowed that this state of affairs shall not stand! But in battles with the Dark Eldar, Eldar, Tyranids and Necrons, the Dragons Errant have faired far better, some battles ending in stalemates, but the majority they can claim in the Emperor's name the elusive Eldar seeming to stay away from the Dragons Errant, and the Necrons seeming to be unable to halt them whenever they arrive, this has been halting the plans of a Necron Lord calling itself the "Pumpkin Lord"(Note: Yes, the player really has this name for his orange colored Necron-Lord, and the chapter has earned the right to have Necron trophies in his scheme due to so many lost fights to them!) The Dragons Errant may have their fleet out in the dark depths of space, but it would seem that when they emerge from those cold shadows, they mostly leave broken enemies in their wake. The losses have resulted from their resolute stubborness failing them when it would have been more prudent to fall-back and regroup for a later strike. Against brother Marines, there was an incident in the secret logs of a Dark Angels successor chapter that saw them fight the Dragons Errant in five seperate engagements, losing to them each time on M42.07. And then they met another group of DA more recently, theses DA used more stationary, almost Tau-like tactics of letting the Dragons Errant walk into a hail of bolter and plasma fire, ripping the chapter force apart, in M42.08 but M42.08 has shown the most activity and sightings of these enigmatic warriors, who knows what M42.09 will show of them? ( they started in 4th edition, but with 5th ed, many things seem to be changing!, they used to be under "Death Before Dishonor", and "Flesh over Steel", with "Honor thy Wargear" and the trait that gave "Furious Charge" to asslt and other teams.) So, anyone reads this, I would appreciate if you liked it, and if you see something I made a mistake on, or feel I need to expand on, please post your thoughts. Thanks. Wolfbiter
Hey Behamorr, I decided to look for your IA here after seeing your scheme posted using the Painter. You did a good job with your colors. Upon reading your background, I find myself a little mixed in my reactions--about 50 percent I think is very well-conceived and interesting, but I think you could cut the other 50 percent. Here's a list of things I liked, disliked and the reaons why in your first draft: LIKE: The idea of a Chapter becoming disgusted with the Imperium and striking off on their own to fight aliens...this appealed to me a lot, and makes sense given the often brutal policies of the Adeptus Terra. DISLIKE: The idea that the Chapter was created as a force to police or assassinate other Marines. Not only does this significantly step on the toes of two major Imperial organizations who already perform a very similar function--the Ordo Malleus and Ordo Hereticus of the Inquisition, who already have the authority to requisition other Chapters to assist them--but given the independent nature of Chapters, it seems like a very impractical mission. Why create a single chapter to go around trying to punish any marines who get out of line? Chapter deviancy or rebellion is a relatively rare event (the most notable one mentioned since the Horus Heresy was the Badab War) and in most cases can be dealt with by the Inquisition. LIKE: The idea that most of the Chapter's background is unknown, and that they were "rediscovered" fighting on the Eastern Fringe. I thought this was a neat way to make your Chapter distinctive, and provides a base for all kinds of interesting possible fluff with other Chapters and Imperial forces trying to judge if they are trustworthy or not. To me this was one of the most interesting angles you wrote. I think you could do a great history section on how the Chapter was re-discovered (perhaps during some notable battle) and what happened afterwards. (Do they continue to do their own thing travelling and fighting through Imperial space? Have they made efforts to re-integrate into the Imperium? Do they appear at battles randomly or respond to calls for help? These are all questions I'm very interested in reading the answers to!) DISLIKE: Again, the whole "secretly created by the High Lords" angle. It negates all the interesting mystery you set up in the description above. I strongly suggest taking the High Lord origin angle out entirely, and just leave them mysterious. That's it so far! Overall, it's rough but I think you have some very good potential here, and I am really looking forward to seeing your next draft! Behamorr
Thanks Wolfbiter, I will indeed do the edits and work more on the Dragons errant, their mutations, and their disgust for the High-Lords policies. Deleted the suggested stuff, and added more, let me know if it was too much or just right! ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/150757-dragons-errant/#findComment-1754214 Share on other sites
Brother Argent
Okay now, before I begin, let me just state that I am finding an alarmingly large number of Chapters whose loyalty to the Imperium is questionable. This is starting to get a bit repetitive. Now, your Chapter is also rebellious but atleast against the High Lords, not the Imperium. This I kinda like as it actually adds a level of depth to their charecter, not just the usual "They dont like the Imperium anymore but their not Chaos". So, I like the idea of having a beef witht he High Lords and not the Emperor. Look forward to seeing how you go with this one. Behamorr
Thanks to Wolfbiter for helping point out the unnecessary stuff. And thanks for Silver Phoenix for your input, yes, many renegades chapters who seem to blame the Emperor, and decide to pick a fight with the entire Imperium out there. I decided to not make my guys so bitter, and deal with the guys who are truly corrupt and in my mind, spiteful, The High-Lords, who don't always make the best decisions. IronFather Tim
Well I can say that I like the sally desended geenseed better then the mixed. It also fits better. Your insistance in doing foot flogger tac squads is good, however I would also look at the idea of allowing 20 man gangs. of tac squads. the other question will be in the SPace based chapters lower numbers of transports/ tanks, and the increased use of teleport and drop pod assult for getting troops to the ground More to come Iron Father Tim THe Fleash is weak and so is the lack of love inthe new codex makes the Iron hand resolve strong,, Blessings of the onmisiaissiah be opon you, Iron Hand Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/150757-dragons-errant/#findComment-1762909 Share on other sites
Behamorr
Well, I am pretty sure we loyalists still have to quit at 10-man squads, (Black Templars being the exception!), And that is not to say they don't have enough vehicles to work with, but they seem to accomplish more without so many tanks on the ground. But for Apocalypse fights where I can use all of them, I will have both the men, and the tanks on the ground! Behamorr
Basically, the High Lords approve new gene-seed to be sent out in the case of replacing gene-seed that is lost and un-retrievable, Then the Adeptus in charge send the allotment out to the chapter so it can be used. Cool, fluff will be coming here soon, both stories of gallant victory, and tragic defeat! Behamorr
As promised, the first of the fluff. Enjoy! ;) +++ TO: Inquisitor Marchand +++ +++ FROM: Interrogator Phineas Queller +++ +++ SUBJECT: Re-emergent Marines +++ +++ REASON: Loyalty Veracity +++ +++ Thought for the day; An open mind is a dangerous place +++ My lord, I have been tracking rumors, and hearsay for several months now of a Marine force, a force in dark blue and grey colors, they seem to hit the xenos as they are attacking colonies, and then disappear. These same Marines have also been reputedly responsible for deposing several Governors from power, and replacing them with new "just" leaders. This seems to be reports in conflict with each other, as the colonists would have little chance to summon help, and the governors in question were not scheduled for removal. One thing has become certain, that the Marines mentioned respond to any summons regardless of transmission medium means they are ship born, and not traveling from a planet. They seem to be destroying xenos as any regular marine would, but the removal of the governors seems a tad heretical, henceforth, I need to ascertain the loyalty of these Marines, as such an elusive force can mean much trouble for our forces in the sector, the mere thought of another renegade marine force makes my blood run cold! 2 weeks interruption: My apologies for the delay, but I have had a lead! there was an extremely brutal battle that made it so the Marines were not so easily able to depart, and the populace gave me a name to cross reference, they are called the Dragons Errant. So far I have been unable to find any records of this Marine chapter, perhaps you can find out their origins for me my lord? 3 weeks interruption: Success! after a truly bad battle, we found corpses!, early reports indicated that the Marines of the Dragons Errant never removed their helms, and I think I have discovered why, after studying the one corpse we found, he had been stripped of the Progenoid glands, and his body had the following deviations; Bifurcated tongue with corresponding pits in the roof of the mouth along with slit eye pupils, a strange development of the famed Marine enhanced senses. Another anomaly, the teeth seemed to be able to regrow once lost, and they were sharp, more reptilian than human. Finally, evidence of the ossmodula being odd. The eyebrows have formed segemented ridges, as well as a nasal to spinal crest of plates, the plates are also segmented, allowing mobility, and protect the head and spine all the way down the back. Now I can see why they are so elusive, with so many mutations, if this is what they are hiding, they must be from a cursed founding, but from which marine group? the corpse had also been wearing plain robes, no weapons, or armor, no iconography to be found as yet, I must find out more now! 2 months interruption; Emperor's mercy! they have found US!, our engines have been crippled, and their assault boats are even now cutting their way aboard, but I saw! I saw the iconography! a dragons' skull with a wing at the back. the crew of the rogue trader I am chartering is fighting, but it sounds like all is going badly for them, this report I hope shall find you as it will be in a message capsule, I fear my time is at hand! Thought for the Day: One may must die so that humanity shall live! Message capsule recovered somewhere on the eastern fringe between the Ghoul Stars and Tau Empire. Behamorr
Enjoy. ;) +++ Location: Tundra world of Vossek-III +++ The bitter cold wind raced across the Tundra as if the world knew what was about to erupt on this frozen surface. The ground cracked open as a door revealed itself in the ground, and the crescent shape of a Necron Pylon arose, piercing the sky with it's malevolent form. The Necron Lords appeared, with their retinues, and squads of warriors, destroyers, Immortals, and tomb spiders followed. The Orange and black Necrons of the so called "Pumpkin-Lord" and the bluish colors of the "Ice-Lord" began their march towards the small city of humans who knew not of their impending fate, and doom! But then, their sensors detected moving shapes in the blowing wind and snow. Tactical squads of the Dragons Errant had taken position between the city and the seismic activity they had detected from orbit, along with them, the few vehicles that had been off-loaded in time to assist in the putting down of the Xenos attack. From his command Rhino, Lord Gawron watched the progress of both armies on the augury screen, His Honor Guard and Chaplain Batonicus alongside him, waiting for their chance to attack the most challenging thing on the field, the auguries detected another energy spike, a C' Tan! "Brothers! Make ready for Monster slaying!" He said as he flexed his weapons, a relic from the past known as the "Dragons' Claws", soon he would be able to use them on a worthy opponent! The "Pumpkin-Lord" was delighted, the favor showed by the appearance of his patron God the Nightbringer would bestow fear in the Blue clad marines as now he knew who it was that stood in his way, the hated Dragons errant, every time he went to advance his causes, they stood in the way!, they had interfered too many times! Now they could stop the humans from doing so with a god at their side! The Monoliths arrived on cue, and disrupted the Dragons Errant lines, causing casualties amongst the squads and destroying the Vindicator. the Dragons retaliated, no Monoliths had been stopped, but the Immortals and destroyers had suffered at the guns of the Marines. Night-bringer took a wound from the sniper team, and then from a closer enemy, a Venerable dreadnought! He fired back with eldritch lightning and damaged the fighting claw of the mighty machine/warrior, one of the lords took over the Redeemer and slew some of a tactical squad, but they carried on. the Redeemer was minorly damaged as the virus program infecting it was spent and died spectacularly, rendering the Flame-storm cannon it had used useless, and wrecked. Machines were junked by Marine fire, and Marines either died or were felled by Gauss flayers. The Whirlwind died as the Heavy Destroyers took it out, the Devastators on one tower opened fire on them with Heavy-Bolters and Plasma-Cannons, felling them to the full! they were gone. Matines attempted to plant Melta bombs on the Monolith, but it moved away, the Assault squads levelled things with shooting and then assaulting Immortals and other units, the Dreadnought and Nightbringer clashed, the result, a broken dreadnought, the wounded C'Tan floated past it. From the flanks, scouts appearred near warriors guarding the Pylon, and from the skies came a drop-pod with another venerable Dreadnought, and Vanguard Veterans exacting "Heroic Intervention" landing unerringly on the right spots to execute the attack!, the Landraider regular turned and disgorged the Librarian and the Terminators, they fired on and whittled down the bulk of the Immortals with the one lord, as the Librarian then summoned a "Vortex of Doom" upon them, and it also was accurate, laying waste to the machine minions!, and the Lord as well. But now, the time had come, asslt-sqds attacked, the scouts attacked, as a Monolith went down to massed Las-cannon fire. Lord Gawron and his unit emerged and assaulted the NightBringer. As warriors went down, and the Ice-Lord looked to be in danger of losing to heroic intervention, the Nightbringer went down to the attacks of the Marine Lord , but he felled the Honor guard with his explosion of energy, overwhelming their armor, and putting them out of the fight, leaving Lord Gawron and Chaplain Batonicus to carry on alone. Sensing another ignominious defeat at the hands of the Marines, and wanting not to lose favor with such a loss, the Pumpkin-Lord waved his War-scythe and the remaining Necrons vanished from the beating they were taking. After the battle, Lord Gawron ordered, "Recover the damaged vehicles, recover the venerable one, and the other wounded, Our work here is done, and we shall leave before the PDF arrives." Shortly, the Dragons Errant broke orbit, leaving a thankful, and yet baffled populace behind them. Behamorr
+++ Subject: Interrogation of eyewitness +++ +++ From: Interrogator Justinian Balethorne +++ +++ To: Inquisitor Paultus +++ +++ Topic: Dragons Errant vs Chaos +++ My Lord, I have interrogated an individual who survived in the battle zone when the elusive Dragons Errant Space Marines fought some sort of Chaos Lord's contingent. According to him, the Dragons barely held, and it may even be that they lost. For that, I am at a loss to say anything. ++ Sounds of sniffling, and whimpering, "Yes, I will talk, please! no more of the pain!" more sniffling. "I hid when the cursed ones came, they killed the entire settlement! my poor family!" distracted sobbing ensues, "No! please, I will continue!" sound of implement placed on table. "I saw the butchers, they piled the corpses into some sick, twisted tower, to please their masters!" more sobbing. "Then they came, oh sweet Emperor! what a sight! the light glinted of the gold of their armor, and that most noble blue of theirs I thought for sure the enemy had it coming!, and they fought hard, but that Daemon Prince, he kept gesturing, and then Marines would be plucked to where the monstrous ones with guns could fire plasma at them!" horrified sound to his voice, "I mean, they were the Emperor's Angels, being swatted about, but the enemy didn't have it all their way!" they gave an account of themselves, Traitors dropped, and the Marines fought hard, one, a squad leader kept swinging away at the enemy accosting them, he fought like a true hero of mankind! no matter what happened, they could not hurt him! I saw the commander and his men dropped, and that Prince felled the captain! oh what sadness filled my heart!" witness takes a breath. Then, I saw the sgt lose his helm! I was shocked! he had a spiny ridge upon his head! he looked so less human, I wondered if the traitors were actually squabbling amongst each other now!" witness makes the sign of the Aquilla, "Please, I must know, who's side were they on? I saw no spikes on them, and yet they were mutated!" he pauses, "I watched from my hiding space, and both sides had done damage to each other, and took their fallen, and left, I only dared to come out when the Inquisition landed and found me." Witness looks up expectantly. The Interrogator is behind him. "You have seen what no citizen is allowed to see, you have been touched by the Ruinous Powers." he moves, and the witnesses head explodes in a pray of bone, brains and blood. +++ Image shuts off. +++ As you can see, these "Dragons Errant" are not some invincible, powerful force, but their loyalty must be questioned, as mutation could be a sign of taint. They must be questioned, tested, and we must not allow some other force of Marines to run loose without the proper sanctions! +++ Thought for the Day: Thought begets Doubt, Doubt begets Heresy, and Heresy begets Retribution. +++ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/150757-dragons-errant/#findComment-1824442 Share on other sites

"We shall need to hurry, I have seen the Mon-Keigh super men arriving, the ones with the blood of the Dragon in their veins." he admonished his exarchs. The hill hid sacred artifacts that they needed time to collect, his bodyguard stood ready, the bulk of their group was at the defense post, they needed time to neutralize it, or make ready to use it. Then, there it was, the sound of engines, the stink of burning Promethium on the air. "Brace! for they have arrived before expected!" The Far-seer cursed whatever gods watched over these giants, for they seemed to disrupt the natural ebb and flow of events wherever they went, making all outcomes unsure, unlike the other Mon-Keigh who followed fate normally! It was dark, but the dark did not bother the Marines of the Dragons Errant, they had used the night to close on the enemy, now that the vehicles had arrived, it was time. From his command Rhino, Brother Captain Falco ordered, "Advance! Cleanse the xenos scum with flames brothers!" The army advanced, most of it on the outpost to overwhelm and crush the Eldar. The Venerable Dreadnought arrived via drop-pod, slaying the Far-seer's entourage, the marines and eldar at the outpost exchanged fire, shuricans and bolts passing each other to arrive amongst their opponents, felling more Eldar and the Marines advanced. the scouts were able to inflict damage on a squad of Eldar before being cut down, the Marines, joined by the captain and his command group, took the outpost, Eldar that had crash-landed on the Promethium towers had also been scythed down. the Eldar at the gun platforms had killed the second dreadnought, and the banshees had taken out a tactical squad but had lost some to the heavy flamer before it had been silenced. The Venerable one fought the lone Far-seer, a dance of death that only would be won by the quickest, but the Far-seer was wounded! the War-walkers advanced, only to have the Vanguards intervene with grenades and power weapons to carve them. Desperation gripped the Eldar now, for they were suffering losses to precious to bear, these Marines were doing too much damage! The Banshees re-arranged their attack and hurried to attack the Vanguards, the Farseer had yet to defeat the armored behemoth, but the Dreadnought failed to harm the old one any further, the xeno-rune armor, saving him. Soon, the Dragons Errant seized the upper levels of the outpost, and the Captain and Chaplain attacked the sneaky Harlequins that were creeping up on the Marines, the captain slaughtering many of the Eldar as the Chaplain slew the remainder, crozius and lightning claws swing in arcs and sweeps as they cut and smashed their way, but they had left the command team behind for the Apothecary to administer to. "Brothers! victory is in the air!" On the Hill, the Far-seer finally dropped the Dreadnought with his Singing Spear, as the banshees that had fought the Vanguard were dropping, one war-walker, and the banshees had been slain, two Vanguard Vets stood to face the walker. The Farseer saw the devastation his people had suffered, over his vox, he ordered, "Withdraw! we can always return for the vault another time! we must not lose anymore of our kin!" The Dragons Errant patched up their wounded, and recovered the Gene-seed of those that had died, as well as their gear and bodies, all would be reclaimed. the Outpost would prove useful as the tanks would be refueled, and they could take more. there was also the weapons cache to consider. Sgt. Bartholemy approached. "Sir, the PDF was not here because the xenos had attacked them, destroying their vehicles, that was what had slowed them." Falco considered this. "We shall have to monitor this world, I have a feeling the scum will return for whatever it is they were looking for!" The Strike Cruiser "Scaled Talon" would make this a regular part of their patrols from now on. "Have the PDF gather the xenos and burn the carcasses." Behamorr
+++ Planet Gardaron +++ +++ Hiveworld +++ Brother Captain Sardakon was furious, they had been here to attain supplies from this world, and even though the planetary governor had authorized the much needed supplies, they were being slow about it! Worse yet, the planetary defense forces were sloppy and inept looking! Never had he seen such a lax in discipline. This lapse in discipline would cost them dearly as they were losing a war to the attacks of the much hated Dark Eldar, they didn't even have a plan for how to respond to such attacks, as long as the out lying villages were taken,,,the Hive couldn't seem to care less. The Dragons Errant under his command could not allow such Xenos-scum free reign over this world, they would put an end to this travesty! Then, he would deal anew with the foppish Governor. He and the Chaplain, Brother Giros and their command retinue were taking over the venerable old Land-raider, "Drakos" and the assault team awaited the chance to drop and hit, the tactical squads and the snipers waited for the raiders to arrive, as did the Venerable dreadnought Mardokk, and the Whirlwind, soon the scum would feel the wrath of the Emperor's Finest! The raiders came, at first unaware of the Marines, but when they spotted the Land-raider, they began to whoop and yell on the attack. the fire of the vehicle mounted weapons were ineffectual, but the Devastators felled a raider with their las-cannons, and the Snipers felled some warriors as they had been sneaking on foot, these soon came under attack from the fire power of the second tac squad. the first tac squad felled a 2nd raider. the third raider was hit by the mighty land-raider and crashed to the ground, the dreadnought unleashed a hail of assault cannon rounds at the raider nearest it, and smoke billowed from it's engines as it just stopped and hovered there. "Brothers! May the xenos feel the heat of the dragons' breath!" Brother Captain Sardakon yelled into his commbead. The warriors and wyches at first were being chewed up by the weapons fire, but the wyches attacked and destroyed a tac squad, and then they faced a furious response from the command squad, The archon was sneaking around a building as the assault squad dropped and fired a hail of bolts and plasma at the alien command unit, most of them fell. The Devasators took out the last of the raiders and the snipers had a new target, bikes!, they dispatched these fairly quickly, but the land-raider was unable to add it's power due to dark-lance fire from a warrior squad, they were hit in their cover by the angry dreanought as it's Heavy flamer spat and cooked most of them alive and finished more with assault cannon fire! The ancient warrior then assaulted into the building, crashing through the walls, "I will destroy you!" and finished them off. The wyches and their drug induced battle fury allowed them to fell most of the command squad, and the captain and chaplain along with the standard bearer and apothecary fought on, slaying as well they had been hit, keeping the furious close combat between them. The Archon and his last two body guards assaulted the Marines who had jump-packed at them and the fight there went badly for the xenos, they did not do enough damage, and the mass of seven remaining Marines slew the bodyguards, and the shadow-field failed catastrophically! taking another marine with him in the ensuing explosion. The Brother Sargent yelled, "No time for dawdling! we have more to kill!" Soon the other warrior squad fell to the combined arms of the tactical squad and the Devastators Heavy bolters. The Snipers took to shooting the last warrior squad, pinning them down in another ruined building. The Wyches were now happy with the removal of the apothecary and standard bearer from the fight, but the Brother captain and the chaplain slew even more of them. Soon though the Succubus and her last two wyches felled even the mighty captain Sardakon! As he lay wounded, he could hear the Chaplain shouted the Litanies of Hate and retribution, "Now you xenos shall pay for your trespass!" and with that, the power fist of the mighty warrior crushed or battered the last of that squad! The Dreadnoght and the assault squad met in the last building where the warriors were hiding, the fight that ensued was brief. Though victorious, the Dragons Errant had lost some of the men to grievous injuries, and the rest were wounded, so, it was later, in the Governor's office that a wounded Sardakon and his Chaplain alongside him, the wounded of the command veterans met. "Governor, there is a serious need for some major changes on this world!........" The Governor's reply was about to be said when the words caught in his throat, The Captain had nodded as he had finished, and the Chaplain un-holstered his plasma pistol. Behamorr
Page 8 of the new codex, plus other fluff, it indicates the Gene-banks sent out new gene seed of only the right stock, so that Ultramarines didn't get say Dark Angel Gene-seed. Before they had lost contact, the Dragons Errant merely fudged the numbers. ala Black Templars. Behamorr
Battle on Argelon, Opening battle. Capt. Saurenak was on his way to the site of some relics of a past battle that could be salvaged, he and his Vanguards had commandeered a Land-raider Redeemer for the lift, as the Terminators had gotten out to walk in with weapon ready. Nearby zipped a Land-speeder and two Rhinos of Tactical troopers, ahead was a third such squad and vehicle, as they arrived, the men could feel the sudden frost in the air as the heralding of something nasty arriving. On this world, they had found signs of chaotic worshipping, and so, the Librarian announced the weak spots existing here that could allow warp entities into reality! The tactical sergeant outside and the Terminator sergeant announced, "Prepare for company!" the other, "Weapons at the ready!" In the lightening dark of dawn, hounds, blood-letters, and flamers arrived who missed their mark and went warp-ward, supported by a soul-grinder, These units were accompanied by a plague-bearer squad near the ancient suit of powered armor across the field. Pink horrors attempted to shoot the guarding tac squad, one man fell. The soulgrinder flicked it's tongue, only to hit a passing bird instead. "Take them brothers, and send them back where they came from!" Capt Saurenak put through the vox channels. The Redeemer fired Multi-melta and Assault cannons, the Soul-grinder exploded in a spray of gears, struts, and gobs of flesh before they all turned to goo as it went back to the warp. The terminators and tactical squad reduced the Hounds, the Horrors were burned by the landspeeder. The other tactical squad rhinos fired on the plaguebearers killing one. The hounds charged but the tactical squad finished them off with no further losses! More deamons arrived, a nurgle beast, some daemonettes, and blood-letters, the other blood-letters were closing in. The Dragon Errant went at it, Daemonettes were wiped out, as were some of the blood-letters, but the ones that survived pressed on, the beats was taken out by the terminators. A second squad of flamers were taken out by the combined efforts of the Landraider and rhinos, the land-raider was immobilized and would advance no further. Skull-taker on a chariot finally arrived, but the rest of the daemonic forces were small by the time he arrived, he pounded the chariot in frustration as he saw the mission falling apart! The blood-letters of both squads were whittled down to manageable size but they still advanced. the last three blood-letters of the first squad slammed into the terminators, taking them out. the other blood-letters were still on open ground, the plaguebearers were still at the armor. The Dragons Errant 1st rhino barred the way from the chariot, Skull-taker was not happy!, he watched the bloodletters get swarmed by weapons fire and disappear, the last flamer was killed, and the other rhinos had sped across the field, disgorging both tac squads close to the plague-bearers, their firepower ensured that they too went back to the warp. The last blood-letters were close, "Dragons Errant! Let us dispose of those abominations!" With a blow of the horn, and the waning of the warp rift, skull-taker took off with what little was left of his forces, the Blood-thirster never even answered his call! The captain sheathed his power sword after pressing the rune of de-activation, "It is over brothers, let us have the wounded tended to and secure the area!" The Dragons Errant had faced the fiends of the warp and had triumphed over them! Behamorr
Battle on Argelon, 2nd Daemon fight. Captain Saurenak was on his way to the second site when the tactical squad commed. "Air is getting colder, and odd noises can be heard!" The Brother Captain replied. "Be ready for anything! we are arriving shortly!" As they arrived, the enemy began to show on the scanners. "They have larger squads this time! ready for battle brothers! we have work ahead of us, the Emperor's work!" The Daemons and their soul-grinder appeared, but the Daemon Prince splattered on the front of the Redeemer, It would be bounced back to the warp! The Soul-Grinder opened up on the tactical squad, felling several marines, but it in turn took damage from the land-speeder's melta. The Daemonic first wave did some vehicle damage as a rhino was stunned, but the flamers were scythed down by other fire, and the blood-letters took hits. The Dragons Errant shot up what they could, and the second wave of Daemons arrived, the Terminators were hit by flamers, and the Tzeentchian daemons killed most of them. The last Terminator sgt attacked the flamers and they fought for a while. Daemonettes tried to block the oncoming rhinos but they were torn asunder by combined fire from both tactical sqds and the empty rhino. the Redeemer slew to a halt as the Soul-grinder lashed it with it's tongue. The Capt and the veterans got out, after shooting up the blood-letters, they assaulted them, killing what was left. The last tac sgt waited near the objective. The flamers moved to his position, the plague-bearers were shot down and the 2nd tactical squad went to take position at the objective. The Capt and his men fought the immobilized soul-grinder, and attempted to destroy it, but they suffered losses, and Captain Saurenak was wounded. The Skull-taker arrived on his chariot, but he was now witnessing his forces failing again! The flamers killed the sgt, and the Redeemer attempted to destroy the soul-grinder. The land-speeder had moved to destroy the flamers with it's own Heavy Flamer, and they went away. Skull-taker attacked and was himself wounded, and the captain and veteran were locked in combat with the skull-taker and the soul-grinder. The rhino of 2nd squad skidded to a halt at the objective of the Dragons Errant, and the 1st sqd and the rhino of the now downed 3rd sqd went in for the kill, they eliminated the last of the Plague-bearers went down, the enemy objective was theirs! The warp rift was closing fast, and skull-taker screamed his frustration as yet another object of the gods was left to the enemy! After the Daemons left, Capt. Saurenak gave the orders, "Patch up the wounded, collect the seed of the fallen, and let us destroy the enemy objects, we shall leave this Emperor forsaken planet behind us!" Several hours later, Capt Saurenak and his Marines were aboard their cruiser and leaving orbit. Behamorr
Battle at St. Ophelia's Having landed the Dragons Errant for re-supply, Capt Saurenak and his men headed to what appeared to be a supply area. Then he discovered he had guessed wrong, they had landed close to a Sisters' Abbey. Quickly, he established a camp and attempted to parlay with the cannoness, but she was a stubborn woman and soon battle lines were drawn, Both sides suffered lost vehicles and troops as the armored hosts fought, and in the end, the Dragons and sisters were left at loggerheads, at which point Saurenak had little choice but to gather the wounded and dead and withdraw from the area, and thus left the world of St. Ophelia's.
