Cl4d
This miniature is extremly well painted, but before giving you advice, in what direction do you want your painting to go? Showcase or gaming? Tabletop or above? Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/150874-my-first-miniatures-continue/#findComment-1754350 Share on other sites
deedark
Nice job - may be highlights would be nice - but above average table top D. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/150874-my-first-miniatures-continue/#findComment-1754355 Share on other sites

Momento Mori
Atilak, for a first mini this is a great effort, the only thing at this point I would suggest is maybe some ink washes on the weapons? and some stuff on the base. Other than that, nice one! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/150874-my-first-miniatures-continue/#findComment-1754406 Share on other sites
Dust01
Would that my first miniature had looked as nice as this. Well done, Atilak! I agree with Momento Mori about the basing. A miniature this nice can only be enhanced by adding a base job; I'm thinking maybe a severed SM helmet should be included with a cut mark accross the face showing where the chain axe bit into it? It would fit with the berserker theme of savagery. Atilak
Im reading some post on this forum and what I need to do is to watered my paints and make more layers.. Than make highlights... 2 Memento Mori and Dust01: I will not decided what theme will be my bases, so will do them later.. Thank your for posts, positive ;) Ok.. to bases... Im thinking about this skull bases... http://www.blackcatbases.com/product.asp?s...oduct=Products.. Lonewolf uses them on whole army of khorne and the look just great.. Its not that far form UK to EU :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/150874-my-first-miniatures-continue/#findComment-1754439 Share on other sites
Oknights
Great job on your first model. On basing, those bases would be great. I would use them just on those important models like Lord, Skull Champions and maybe terminators. That would really make those important characters stand out from the rest of your army. Another tip, the more you paint the better it will get, just be patient. JetfireUK
For a first figure you should be very proud. The paint has been applied neatly with no real overrun from what I can make out. The red doesn't appear blotchy and the gold looks crisp and not clumpy. As mentioned above, the more you paint, the better you'll become. Thinning your paint a little is probably the easiest lesson and although it means painting takes slightly longer the finished item will look a lot crisper. Fine highlights can be applied with the edge of the brush as using the tip can be a bit unpredictable. Using a wash (such as the GW ones) will really help the metallics stand out - it works really went in the recesses and a final fine highlight of mithril silver will really look the business on the weapons and armour trim. Finally basing the figure will help give it that professional look. I agree that fancy bases should be used on special or elite figures as it'll help them stand out. Hope this helps, and keep up the painting! Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/150874-my-first-miniatures-continue/#findComment-1754605 Share on other sites
Atilak
That positive comments just pushing me to another painting. It really helps a lot ;) The patience is key for my work... I dont really need to rush anything. I want to do my army to be proud on. Btw I have Games workshop Citadel fine detail brush. But I think that i need something even more precise. Or it just my hand what slowing me down on details? :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/150874-my-first-miniatures-continue/#findComment-1754925 Share on other sites

Valhallan
Wow. That is a great first mini. Do you paint other minatures because that looks just fantastic. Now its just building up on washes on the metals and using high lights on the armor. That should get you going. A little high light here and a wash just on the weapons can make a huge improvement. OwenCrute
The colours you've achieved are nice, but I wouldn't say it's a finished model. Black lines inside the helmet faceplate, washes on the gold, highlights on the red. Nice job, though. cathar the great
Hmm I kind of expected some Starcraft:Board Game Minis converted to demons, when I saw the topic, sad :D But the mini looks great for a first try. Some minor highlights would of course be good, or you just wash the whole thing with Badab Black and see if you like the result ^^ Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/150874-my-first-miniatures-continue/#findComment-1759425 Share on other sites

CrazyDA
The thing you need to realize is, even though you have yet to learn highlighting and washing your models, the fact is that you paint very clean, and thats something that a lot of people still need to work on but you seem to have down. THAT, in my opinion is the most important thing to learn and you seem to already have it. good for you! Now that you have your basics down, Your next step is, like others have said, is to highlight and wash your model(not necessarily in that order). I suggest heading down to GW or find a friend that is experienced to give you pointers and a lesson. B&C is also a great place to get insperation on what you are looking for as well, so look around and im sure you will find a ton of stuff to help you. great job, keep up the good work. khairney
im agreeing with crazyDA. for a first time painter, you paint very neatly, which is something near impossible to find in most first timers. personally, id suggest highlighting the armour with blood red, then get some baal red wash, and go to town on its ass. the new washes make eveything awesome. i always find that if you wash then highlight, it can often make the highlights stick out too much, but washes over the highlights blend them in, but they are still noticble. then id wash the pistol with badab black wash... and the brass with.. err... ogryn flesh probably. and a little bit of badab black in the back of the knees, top of thigh exposed underarmour bits makes it look bitching. as i said, for a first time model, that really does rock titts. either experiment with different painting styles and techniques (you might muck up a model or two, but youl get a undividualistic style) or speak to a friend/ games workshop store dude thing. Kuchinawa
Dude, looking really good. I'd keep it as is. If you need to I suggest a few of the washs. Flesh wash on the gold and just a tad of black on a few of the Gunmetal areas. (back of legs and bolterpistol) And Blood. As a fallower of Khorn you must have at least 4 pints of blood on you model. 1 pint must be your own  Nah Jk Use the 1 part White glue + 1 part tiny sand + 2 parts Blood read + 1-2 parts water and get some gore on there. I'll get a pic of what I just discribed, It's on the gorechild. http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj100/Kuchinawa212/Minis2014.jpg OH and PS This is last time I let a friend spell Khârn for me. It's fixed now, just not a new pic. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/150874-my-first-miniatures-continue/#findComment-1761662 Share on other sites

Atilak
Thanks everyone for comments.. Im really happy that you like it... It forces me to keep it going ;) I made my Skull champion for my first squad of Zergs ! 2nd mini! There is no blood.. I want to follow Lonewolf tutorial on gore, but dont have right color and dont wanna destroy my work with something i dont know how to manage.. So some gore on this guy will be added later.. Otherwise it seems "done" to me! I made him a bit battletested coz veteran leader need to be! (I wanna follow WYSIWYG as much as possible) Sorry for the quality... again... My camera is broken.
