Fluff/Modelling question about GK in power armour.

Hi I've been buying a few GK terminators recently. I'm planning on buying a couple of squads of GK's in power armour to make a small army.

I have a few unused metal veterans which I was going to add to these power armoured GK squads. Would it be ok to leave the terminator honours on these guys?

Does anyone have any examples they can show me of kitbashed, or converted GK's in power armour?

I haven't done it myself, but it is definitely not easy with the drastically different power armour design. Note that grey knights use an entirely different mark of power armour suits. They also don't have the idea of Terminator Honours (nothing in the DH codex talks about it. The Terminator Armour description simply says grey knights get the +1A cuz they are trained in the use, while inquisitors aren't)

On the other hand, you could try using the mark 8 power armour (the one with the high collar) along with some weapons that have black templar blings on it (the upgrade set comes to mind, but there isn't any storm bolter in the box) since Nemesis Force Weapons don't always have to be halberds and swords. I'd say the storm bolter is a real headache because I haven't seen any model other than grey knights that have a gauntlet-mounted storm bolter.

Yup, with the correct helmet from the BT upgrade sprue (I think its called MK 4) and the GK left arm, you can have nearly all-plastic GKs! But glue a penny under the base, especially for dramatic poses - the metal left arms can cause the model to fall over.

I have done a few conversions of standard SM into GK's. Though I used green stuff for alot of the work. I just filed down the chest plate smooth, added some green stuff to make runes, and added a greenstuff book and blade. The storm bolter I actualy nicked from a free terminator off the cover of white dwarf (came with ork nob too, I chopped off his arms and added spare lightning claws so he could be used as assault terminator). Its not hard to shape the wrist and bolter to fit neatly. The helmet was actualy a standard womble helmet, carved and doctored. from a distance theres very little differance, and up close its not far off, its not as good as the GW models but it just adds another pose to the squads. I didnt make the runes very will on my first attempt but appart from that im pretty pleased and im missing the all important book on his shoulder which i will get around to doing. And ill probasbly replace the sword if i can find a better one spare.

I also converted the Inquisitor Battle Brother Artemus into a frey knight, i made a new head out of model putty and fashioned him a storm bolter the rest was minour green stuff work and fileing.

Hi thanks for the replies. Great conversion there Jester_Prince.

I had a few models in mind for the conversions namely this guy, this guy and this awesome and sadly discontinued veteran.

Great ideas about the black templar helmets. I have a few of those precious bitz I have been buying up on bits and kits for a pre heresy project.

I'm not going to be as faithful to the aegis suit as Jester_Prince has been with these conversions as my GS skills aren't that great. The general consensus seems to be that terminator honours should be removed. Come to think of it I have a GK terminator in front of me right now and theres no recognisable crux terminatus on it. I might leave them on and try and concentrate on the book/sword on their chest.

Part of the attraction of kitbashing some GK's together is to add some variation and include some different nemesis force weapons other than swords and halberds, such as the axe and mace above.

EDIT - I'd love to see some more kitbashed GK's from you all. I appreciate the inspiration.

they are all really really sweet models and Id love to see results. TBH they arnt far off being grey knights. btw that grey knight was the first GS project i did that was beyond simple filling of gaps and making a few cloaks. So you never know if you dont try, theres loads of tutorials out there on how to do it which really helped. Im currently working on a grey knight based the old metal bike seargent, tho ive paused on that because i wanted to find out if there were any fluff reasons why a grey knight shouldn't remove his helmet. I know its a little off topic but heres a pic of my inquisitor conversion sorry for poor quality.

Wow thats brilliant. I never painted up my Artemis model but this is spurring me on.

I know what you mean about the no helmet. Kind of defeats the point of wearing armour in the first place if your going to take off your helmet. Although Stern isn't wearing one. In the IA article I'm pretty sure the grey knight in power armour has no helmet. I haven't seen that article in a while though, I can't quite remember.

That artemis models been repainted and remodeled atleast 4 times, first two he was ultramarines.....back in the day...then when i started black templars (every single ultramarine converted and repainted i must have scratched 2/3rds of my army) i converted him up to be a templar, now hes taken up his (hopefully) final incarnation though i was never happy with my other paint jobs....this one looks pretty damn cool.

This is exactly what I do! ;) The GKT Left SB arms are a brilliant fit, as the normal PAGK use the large Tarminator size Sholder Pad anyway.

I did promise a while ago to get some pictures up of mine, but they're unpainted and I suck at taking and uploaidng pictures. :D

(Anyone find the cold makes your pennies unstick themselves form your bases? And anyone else annoyed by the bases that have the little lump in the midle, makes gluing one pence peices that much more difficult. :( )

Use plasticine or whatever it is and the penny wont come out ever again unless you want it to, you could use GS but that sounds a bit expensive just for a penny.

Id like to see some GK plastic conversions ive looked on the net and found zippo, so it would be nice to see some.

I've got some hasty pic's of a couple of my guys a mate took a while ago (all unpainted, one still have a base coated BT Tabard...), is there anywhere here on the B&C I can upload them to? I'm an utter novice at this sort of stuff. ;)

I orignally made two Psycannon Guys and left them with thier NFW. Forgettign that even though they have suspensors, they lose thier NFW when they upgrade. :/

Edit:

I've now got some CC Termy Crotch Plates to use as Thigh Guards on my PAGK. But not essembled these yet.

I'm also looking at getting some WFB Cloaks for them, as I really dislike the normal Back Packs on these guys. I'm wondering how;

Would fit.

Hi GentlemanLoser, they look cool. Looks like you used the terminator arms for the storm bolters. It's a good idea I'm trying to get my head around ideas for those gauntlet mounted stormbolters.

I got captain stern through the post today and confusingly he has a terminator honour hanging over his tabard. Also I fished out the IA article for GK's and the terminator (old style) has a crux terminatus. I think I'm going to leave the terminator honours on the power armoured GK conversions and just concentrate on making them look GKish in other respects.

Looks like the Black Templar sprue is invaluable for GK conversions. All the burning braziers and stuff seem to fit the bill. Its such a shame the GK range is so small all the miniatures are excellent.

Yeah.

The other thing I'd look at is the Company Champion from the Command Squad Box. He's got the lastest Mark armour, Tabarded Chest and 'Crusdaer' Helm. (There's also a Plastic Deathwatch and maybe another oversized left Pad in that box as well...)

I'm going to carry on (Damn you GW for getting rid of the GKT SB arm bits butleaving us with packs of 5 Psycannon arms....) using Power Swords for NFW alongside a Mixture of Halbards.

I like the GKT SB arms on the PAGK. It fits, as they normally have oversized left Sholder Pads.

I'm also going to use a DA Veteren with thier Robed amrour as an Inquisitor, but haven't got round to it yet. ;)

The only other idea for the Wrist mounted SB I've seen is to cut up a pintle mounted Storm Bolter.

Or just have a few Guys holding hand held Storm Bolters. :(

Maybe this will spur me to get a couple of cloaks off of Bitzbox and finish a few off properly with Thigh Guards and Cloaks.

The Emperor's Champion makes a good Justicar, I think. I used a Librarian's SB and green-stuffed a shield and arm pads. Harder to do these days without bits ordering. :)

Awh man thats a great idea, the models are so similar anyway it wouldnt be hard to mount a SB on his wrist and GS runes and markings, id even be tempted to add a collar. Its a shame he costs as much as any other metal GK+ bitz still having one or two would give the army a variation.

Im really surprised Forge World havnt jumped on the chance to make some more variants for grey knights and their own inquisitorial stormtroopers, sisters and whatever else is lacking they are usually good at supporting things that GW do not. Along with their totaly awesome chaos demons, some new grey knight models would go down well, especially how detailed their models are it could lead to the most beautiful models ever created by them.
