my DIY chapter

Hello this is my first post here and I'm looking for some help with my first space marine army. I'm not a particularly skilled painter but any tips would be helpful. C&C welcome.

Background: A successor chapter from the Ravens Guard my chapter have been stranded on a hive world in a small system. They are cut off by a small warpstorm which destroyed all of their interstellar ships. They fight mostly in the cities or swamps of the world that their chapter keep is built upon. They mostly fight the Tyranid and Ork forces that are also trapped on the system by the warpstorm and the chaos raiders that attack from within the storm. The army is heavily littered with lightning claws and flamers.

I'm still not sure on a name for them i was thinking Sable Ravens or Night Ravens but i'm not sure suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm also not sure on the Symbol either suggestions would again be appreciated (preferably something simple or an adaption to a transfer as im not a particularily skilled detail painter.

Also i'm not sure about having Hawks Turquoise on the shoulder pads.

Here's a few images of them so far. they aren't finished yet since they still need neatening up.

I agree the marine without the turquoise is better, however i like it on the terminator. Your background sounds pretty good too.

It looks like you know what you're doing, just need to learn a few other techniques to make your marines pop. Try to think the paint down a little with water, it looks like you've used the paint straight from the bottle so it's on a bit thick. Another thing you could try is a few washes. Take a bit of black, water it down a lot (so that it's like ink) and wash it on over the metals and details such as the chest eagle, skulls etc. This will define the details and crevices so the yellow doesn't appear as blocky.

And apart from that, practice, practice practice!

Al

multiple coats of watered down paint, it will help it come out smoother. Also your murdering yourself with the camera, extreme closeups can really bring out imperfections.

all in all i like the story and the color scheme will be cool once you clean it up.

Keep at it dude and show us the progress!!!
