Morte
Finally got a few nice snaps of my minis with my girlfriend's digital camera, so I thought I'd start a WIP thread here just to motivate myself to paint more! Morte
A few group shots here http://i377.photobucket.com/albums/oo219/lifetime05/DSC04372.jpg http://i377.photobucket.com/albums/oo219/lifetime05/DSC04374.jpg And my current WIP, Sword Brethren Squad Grunwald I've modeled these guys to be holding pole-arm type weapons, having been inspired by Dan Abnett's Brothers of the Snake The original plan was to have them holding lances and stabbing/thrusting with both hands in various poses, but it turned out that I couldn't find the right width plasticard to serve as the shafts. I'm also very reluctant to work with GS, so I did the best I could chopping and changing arms and weapons to result in what I had here. Pretty happy with them, actually. They're getting red robes with dark armor beneath; I was actually motivated to use the DA veterans kit because I loved the look of Guardians of the Covenant, and thought it would make a great Sword Brethren stand-in. Their arms are currently blu-tacked on. http://i377.photobucket.com/albums/oo219/lifetime05/DSC04376.jpg http://i377.photobucket.com/albums/oo219/lifetime05/DSC04378.jpg http://i377.photobucket.com/albums/oo219/lifetime05/DSC04379.jpg http://i377.photobucket.com/albums/oo219/lifetime05/DSC04380.jpg More photos and WIP shots when I get around to taking more pictures! EDIT: wow those were some quick replies. Thanks for the positive comments guys! It's hard to see in the pictures, but I've tried to aim for a "personal heraldry" approach, as if each marine maintains his own suit of armor and paints liturgies and runes (which are bastardised Chinese characters). I'm only just getting comfortable with doing freehand Chinese calligraphy on armor. Hence, there's a distinct lack of banners in my army :) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/151066-for-sigismund/#findComment-1756857 Share on other sites
SpudWhitman
You've got a very smooth hand to do all that Kanji. Brother Tancred's sarcophogus plate really pops, as well. Imperial Knight
Beautiful work, my only criticism is the red is a little to clean and bright, you may want to tone it down with a wash or ink, but that is just my preference with red, great job keep it up!!!!! Actually, it's a rare case of the camera making things look better and brighter than they really are! I thought the red looked more subdued on the models (sort of a Red Gore-ish shade) but they seem to show up as Blood Red/Blazing Orange blends in the photographs. Not sure why! I too prefer darker reds; I usually basecoat Mechrite Red>Red Gore, wash with chestnut ink or Ogryn flesh and then highlight with Blood Red. Do they look too tacky on the models? I was quite keen on avoiding the usual "black and white" marines. kalle
these look alot like my templars  only , well these are better painted xD my hands start to shake while highlighting so it usually gets a bit sloppy . :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/151066-for-sigismund/#findComment-1757104 Share on other sites
