metcalfedan
Whole bunch of what? Your planning on painting scouts aren't you? I can't wait to see what they look like, because they don't have as much metallic as normal marines :D The next update won't be far off guys, I'm working on my Captain and Command squad now :P Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/151098-viva-metallica/page/6/#findComment-1837716 Share on other sites
Metallicop
Hey, this has nothing to do with the band Metallica... the washes look pretty good though, I do the same for Necrons and metals... drybrush boltgun on a black basecoat. wash green, let dry, wash black, let dry. highlight with mithril. makes great green metal. for cool purpley-red, basecoat black with drybrush boltgun. baal re wash, let dry. wash blue( watered down a bit), let dry. highlights with chainmail / mithril. Kairos
Thankyou so much for PMing me the red metallic armour thing, but it turned out I didn't need to paint them for the tourney, so I haven't even tried yet. OwenCrute
I think the 'metalic black' is a pipe dream, but I think 'Ardcoat or some other varnish or something might achieve a similar 'supershiny' effect. Might give that a try :tu: UPDATE TIME: This might be slightly deviating from the Viva Metallica thaaang, but I started work for an Inquisitor Lord and Retinue (well they didn't earn the title "High Lords' Lapdogs" for nothing: (can I post these in this forum? if not I will happily remove them :)) http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0509.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0510.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0511.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0507.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0512.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0513.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0514.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0515.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0516.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0517.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0518.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0519.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0520.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0521.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0522.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0523.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0524.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0525.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0526.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0527.jpg I will be painting the Inquisitor (still unfinished), artificer armoured and power armoured acolytes in metallic and maybe the veteran guardsmen too. The Acolytes' armour will be a gold-y colour using gryphonne sephia, and I haven't decided on a colour for the inquisitor. EDIT: Part 2 to come; just adding the picture codes now... metcalfedan
Update part 2: (rest of the retinue with the power armoured acolyte with hellgun:) http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0528.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0529.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0530.jpg Now for the main update bit: I experimented on my command squad with 2 "thicker" coats instead of 3 "lighter" coats. It turned out well I think: (apothecary will have the same colour-sections as the CF one in the codex, and has only had 1 coat of blue) http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0531.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0532.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0534.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0535.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0536.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0537.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0538.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0539.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0540.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0541.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0542.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0543.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0544.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0545.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0546.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0548.jpg http://i46.photobucket.com/albums/f139/metcalfedan/IMG_0549.jpg I finally picked the right head for my captain/Sicarius counts-as. :tu: Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/151098-viva-metallica/page/6/#findComment-1846263 Share on other sites

chapter master 454
So no-ones going to comment on my inquisitor and his custom incinerator? Fair-doos... I will step up to plate for this then onto your marines: very nice idea, that inquistor decided 'bah, chainsaws on bolters, don't be whimps, put them on a big ass incinerator then come to me about not exterminatusing your planet'. the guardsman with the marine arms reminds me of when my bro had some catachans (he only painted them) and i gave him some marine arms to stick on them! The marine pointing to the auspex just has this line to me: 'I, FOR THE SAKE OF THE EMPEROR, TOLD YOU TO TAKE A LEFT. NOW LOOK WHERE WE ARE!'. Now thats out the way onto your great marines. The metallic paint job is just incredible and ether though i would love to do that I don't have the patience to do so. Champion is look cook as well as the apoth (the silver sets it off nicely). Keep up the good work, no, not good. keep up the impressivly epic work! Brother Corvus
The two thicker coats of wash look really effective, and the inquisitorial retinue looks awesome. :P The command squad is really impressive, and I cant wait to see some more updates! retsef
As a soon to be SM player, i am very impressed with this painting style metcalfedan. Very impressed. I wanted to do a marine force that would stand out from many others, and now all i can think of is doing an endless run of test models to get the exact colour variations right to create a truly unique colour scheme. I am thinking of using 1 wash of blue then 2 of purple and seeing how that goes, and also trying it over Chainmail or Boltgun Metal for a darker look. Now I just need to get to my local hobby store and buy me some washes and dig out all the dodgy old models I never intend to paint as a tester. Brother Gothard
I wonder if a Metallic black could be done by washing the armour 3-4 times with Badab black? I think I'll try that. Since I dont have any Mithril Silver, I'll just try with Boltgun Metal. Its darker, and might help. Or maybe not. We'll see. retsef
The other thing i have been considering for doign Metallic black is the other way around BG, undercoat in black and water boltgun metal down 10:1 or less to just end up with metal flecked water, then lightly wash with that.
