sgtNACHO
WoW! Nice job. I always think I have done a pretty good job on my models, then I come here and realize "Oh crap, I have got a ways to go." anyway I would love to know how you did your red robes, I have some capes and robes on my Mephy and (Stolen Black Templar Sword Bretheren) Vet Ass Squad. If you could tell me how that would be great. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/151189-my-first-5-bts/page/2/#findComment-1793724 Share on other sites
Hailfyre
like it hasn't been said before, but awesome job. I have to wonder how you did the grey highlighting on the armour, I tried it a couple times and it came out all jagged looking, your highlighting is very smooth. ah well. I just drybrush everything anyways ;) Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/151189-my-first-5-bts/page/2/#findComment-1793954 Share on other sites
imagine28
:) 10h per model?! You weren't even exagerating when you said you wouldn't finish 'till 2012... But yeah, as said many times before, these models look great, it kinda inspires me to go finish painting my BT army. Oh, and I also paint really slowly (not 10h per model tho o.O) and I've adapted to the assembly-line method to speed up the process, however, my models don't look nearly as nice as those do. Brad
Thank you all for the positive feedback! Your kind words has actually increased my motivation to paint (I usually only paint a little now and then). We'll just have to see how long it lasts... :) Brad - those are magnificent, seriously. I am working on an assault squad and trying to use yours as an example! I have the hardest time with the edging. I think the bases are perfect, too. You *could* use a little less grass if you like as the green introduces a new color to the piece but heck, I think they look great as-is. Season to taste, as it were. :) Awesome job, really. like it hasn't been said before, but awesome job. I have to wonder how you did the grey highlighting on the armour, I tried it a couple times and it came out all jagged looking, your highlighting is very smooth. ah well. I just drybrush everything anyways  I do the highlight in two steps. First a layer of chaos black/codex grey mix. (Can't remember the ratio. Its pretty dark.) After that I do the edges with pure codex grey. The first layer is of course wider, while the second is only applied to the very edges. (Sometimes it gets to thick, but I think it works anyway.) If you have any questions feel free to ask. @embuchho: When you say "...*could* use a little less grass...", do you mean it like less grass or no grass at all? Would it be better to use a little more rubble and rocks instead of the grass? (I use these bases as they match my IG army. It also fits my gaming table, but I'm open for suggestions how to improve the look of the models.) WoW! Actually I don't have any good strategy for painting red. I didn't spend to much time on their robes since it's only visible between their legs from behind, and thats not a place I usually go... What I did is to use a base of Macharite red (or whatever the red foundation is called) which is completely covered by Red Gore. Add Scab Red leaving the previous layer showing in the resesses. (Or if these colours is put in reverse order. Can't remember. The darkest one go first. Also I don't think there is much difference between these two. It might be possible to skip one of them completely). Then add Blood Red to the raised areas. The difference between Blood red and the others is quite big, so I try to use thinned Blood red and build it up towards the raised areas. But as I said: I didn't put much effort into it. EDIT: Added question to embuchho. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/151189-my-first-5-bts/page/2/#findComment-1796509 Share on other sites
