nerdbombs boom the loudest :tu:

i love your BFG stuff and can hardly comprehend how you manage to get tons of tiny bitz into these fantastic ships.

now that you mentioned ARC 170s and Aethersprites, how about a LAAT/i gunship?

Hey man I have nothing but love for all things Star Wars and Star Wars related! That is an impressive knowledge though hah, mine doesn't extend much past the movies and the visual dictionaries (which were awesome) and the occasional novel here and there..

If the ETA-2 Actis is what I think it is (Anakin's ship in Episode III?) that might be tough to pull off, especially in any real numbers :tu: but I certainly look forward to seeing them. Can they be used as count-as in BFG or is it just for fun that you're doing this?

Edit: Oh, and I definitely agree that a LAAT gunship would be very cool to see!

Aye. I am a big fan of the Wookieepedia. :D :P :D ETA-2 Actis are from Epidsode 3, and the Delta-7s are from 2. :)

To both of you fine fellows, I originally thought of the LAAT/i and LAAT/c with a AT-TE or something attached. I really want to add a HAET-221, which had a 3 second role in Episode III, looks really cool.

And although the Wookiee says that later versions on the LAAT series could venture into space and were used for boarding craft, I'm not sure of how I'll be able to make an LAAT this small!

I'll think about it. ;)

Haven't done much modeling for Star Wars...though I have been perusing Wookieepedia and thinking about how to make myself a modified YT-2000...man...is there a way for me to hit more nerdism? :P Oh yeah, I can. Been watching the Clone Wars series as well >=D Season two now.

So I managed to finish up the 5 frigates. While doing so, I also noticed that I did a piss poor job painting my cruisers as well. So I gave those two a touch up.

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/IMG_2126.jpg

The frigates are alright. At least all of my ships follow along a similar painting level. :P

And although I was unable to figure out any fleet rules in the basic and advanced pdfs from the GW site.

I believe I've conglomerated a 510 point fleet that could actually be used in a legal game one day.

Bam bam bam bum ba bam...

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/IMG_2372.jpg

I figure that my fighter and bomber (would really like to make that plural..) need some sort of carrier, so I made one! Its about the length of a cruiser, so can count as one if I ever needed it to. Of course, it would represent a Gothic Class with dorsal lance cannons...

And of course, like all Shorts builds, the cuts are all off, crooked, and there are tons of gaps! It is still a WIP, it needs sensor domes, prow tracto beams/ ram, engines, a reactor bubble on the underbelly, some conning tower stuff, and panel details along the hull like the two areas that have breaks in the armor. But its passible for now. :D

A Battlestar eh? You're one of those people. :)

This is my next one, Its really long, but it will be bulked out enough where it won't look so bad.

http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss63/Shortsonfire82/myphoto12.jpg

I also started a project that went on hold exactly one year ago after seeing Horuswaspretty and other's BFG, the Catalyst Class battleship. I spent 8 hours taking it from the hunk of resin that it was last May to the finished hunk of resin it is now.

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/e63b51a2.jpg

I also took some time to get a basecoat on the hulk. Its significantly more blue than the Glory, and I'm not entirely sure at which step I went wrong, probably the last Ice Blue layer. I'll give it another go after the entire thing is dry.

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/14e9afff.jpg

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/baf78907.jpg

After that Ice Blue coat I'll start picking out details to get the Catalyst to resemble the Glory.

Also, thanks to Digit's push mold tutorial, earlier this week I was able to get some BFG weapons that I've always found myself running short of. You may notice that the green stuff ones didn't hold the hard angles as well as you'd hope and thus they're slightly puffier and larger, but they look really great in my opinion. I also found that I have significantly more antennae than I do of weapons. Time to start loading up my next ships with antennae.

Lovin the Imperial Ships! I'm especially drawn to the Tie Fighter and Bomber. I love that series of craft even though they have the fortitude of paper-mache. Any chance of a Tie Interceptor or Defender? :P

Impressively large vessels, Shorts. I'd love to see a bulk transporter of a similar size... ;)

seconded, how about a titan legion drop ship?

still loving your fleet endeavours mate :tu:

Shorts! Your alive!

Nice to see another crazy and massive vessel coming out of your shipyards. I think that the (definately not a) Star Destroyer could definetly use so more surface detailing across the hull.

Continue your work you crazy sir.

Dark Apostle, thanks, it is nice to be back. :D

Hushrong, thank you. :) I didn't realize it before, but the paint schemes on the Ties would actually come close to my fleet's scheme! The Interceptor was on the menu, but I'm not sure if I'll ever get around to it. If I do make the Interceptor though, I'll be sure to make the Defender since it has the same wings!

Olisredan, thank you. :) I can't imagine a bulk transport of that size!! Normal battleships are rumored to be 8 miles long... can you imagine the cargo something that big could carry!?!?! Could you imagine the amount of cargo lost if it were destroyed! D:

Wicced, thank you. :) I think a titan drop ship would be AWESOME, but I (nor anyone on the webz) don't know what they look like. A quick google or two came up with the AT-AT Titan dropships and a bunch of Imperial Guard dropships... I'll have a flip through Titanicus to see if they mention anything, but I think it'd be rather difficult to pull off...

Lord Andreas, great to see you. :) I agree, the not a Star Destroyer could use a ton of detail work, I just haven't gotten around to it...

Alright, so I finished the Catalyst class battleship (Yet to be named) and it is now at the same standard as the rest of the fleet. This ship for points and rules sake will be counted as an Emperor class battleship.

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/IMG_2863.jpg

And if you remember this drifting hulk (wow, look at my old Apple G4!):

how it'll look on a stand

http://i562.photobucket.com/albums/ss63/Shortsonfire82/IMG_3149.jpg

I scrapped it and turned it into two Overlord class cruisers. I was tempted to make one a Tyrant class, just to mix things up (and its cheaper) but I opted against it. :P You may also notice that they don't have the traditional IN bridges... I couldn't find them. :( I assume that one of the bridges went to the =][= Blackship and the other is the forward command center of the Catalyst class battleship. That is okay though, I like the way that these will be slightly different than the rest, possibly coming from a different Forgeworld or something.

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/IMG_2871.jpg

I'll try and get a fleet shot in once I finish the next 3 cruisers. I hope to find some spare cash to pick up a couple more and maybe even a Dauntless light cruiser or two sometime soon. Thanks for looking. :D

Some pictures were removed because they were not Adamantium related. The URLs are still there, though.

I was lieing in bed Wednesday reading Lexicanum and the BFGwiki and stumbled upon this blurb of text:

These [battleship] ships are superseded by the even larger pre-Age of Strife advanced superships that are reserved for larger combat or exterminatus missions. Such ships are similar to the huge space forts, planetary sized battle-hulks, and doomsday bastions yet are far more mobile and capable of fighting like standard battlefleets. They are mustered in far greater numbers and utilize battleship sized escorts as part of far more powerful Devastation Blockades and Sentinal Forces, which routinely crush Hive fleets or Chaos daemonworlds, or guard dangerous powers on quarantined worlds. The most powerful ships are kept totally in secret shipyard-crypts such as the Caelan Class Sunderer vessel (rumored to be able to fire and anhilatate any target in any time or location, far too powerful to used except by the Emperor Himself) and other powerful doomsday-class voidships.

I really liked the idea of my fleet with its OP battleships being docked at an unlisted Imperial fortress-world ready to defend some segmentae from another massed Tyranid invasion. I figured I could write some fluff for this that one or two people would read, or I could make a model depicting what my fleet has done, and how they lost one of their battleships. (I had been wanting to make a decrepit hulk anyways) This also gave me the opportunity to make a Nid ship or two as well...

So I started the June competition after an hour nap on Thursday... (this is 2AM when I woke up...)

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/Screenshot2012-06-08at44327PM-2.png

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/IMG_2872.jpg

And two hours later I had finished the main battleship hull assembly.

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/IMG_2876.jpg

After talking with Raxxus and Sachiel in the Skype chat I got the second part of the competition piece 'fleshed out'. The armature is tinfoil that was dipped in resin. Initially it looked a little like a bent space-poop, so I gave it a bulbous butt to give it more of a hive ship/breeding sack kind of feel.

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/sho...79/IMG_2886.jpg

The idea is to have the Nid ship smashing into the Retribution and snapping it in half like the first picture above, from the Battlefleet_Bakka.pdf with clusters of tendrils breaching the hull and ripping panels off the ship. I definitely want some tendrils breaking the figurehead off.

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/IMG_2894.jpg

I've also been taking the time to make as many tentacles as I could. I figured that it'd be well fitting to my heritage. ;) I've also started making fangs to replicate the Kraken mouth from Pirates of the Carribbean. This picture also shows the direction I want to go with the sculpting on the resin body. I took a lot of ideas from the Forgeworld Meiotic spore sacks. I really liked the brain look to the models so I plan on going with a lot of the veins and exhaust things. I also like the idea of the matter sacks and feeder tendrils so those will go in there. I'm going to add 5 chitin plates on top and 3 brain-holes on the side to replicate the 40k models. I'm also contemplating adding 6 legs, wings, or appendages to also follow the theme though they may not fit quite well, in space. The 3 large tentacles will have chitin plates as well replicating those on the lictor. I'll also be using Digit's tutorial on explosions for where the hull breaches are.

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/sho...79/IMG_2898.jpg

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/CIMG1763.jpghttp://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/CIMG2799.jpg

While digging for any Tyranid bits I had, any at all, I found a single untouched metal lictor and a built warrior... whoopee. But while digging in my bitz box, I did manage to find four full Imperial cruisers and two full Chaos cruisers!! Sweet! I also started work on the Armageddon cruiser (the one without the prow) and I made a Tie Interceptor and Tie Defender. The wings were ridiculously difficult to work with and I'm not 100% pleased. It'll do for now though.

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/IMG_2899.jpg

On the yellow sheet of paper, you can see a six classes of Imperial cruisers listed. I'll be using the four cruisers I found to make those (already have a Armageddon and a Gothic) and I'll only need another pack of Sword frigates and I'll have a 1450 fleet. I am pretty certain that this fleet is legal since I found it on Warseer and made by Vaaish, an avid BFGer.

Let me know of what you think of the Nid ship! :) Thanks all.

hey shorts, i like the beginnings of the nid ship.

you could add smaller tentacles, trying to burrow inside the hull or some orifices spewing boarding organisms.

Wicced: Thanks mate! Great minds must think alike! I was going to have several clusters of tentacles working on the Imperial ship just like this

Hushrong: Thanks! And I did find a goldmine in my bitz box, its so exciting! I also saw your post in the BFG discussion on Warseer and did some digging, great work with the Night Lord Raiders!

Some pictures were removed because they were not Adamantium related. The URLs are still there, though.

So I've been doing a lot of work for the competition, but I figured I should quickly paint up the two cruisers that I had presented last time. So I just spent some time finishing them up. I learned that the bases don't accept hand paint too well, so when I spray the comp I'll do the bases too.

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/IMG_2909.jpg

And heres how the competition piece is sitting so far. Waiting for the current batch of greenstuff to harden so I can move on. The brain-veins will have smaller veins branching off once I figure out how to sculpt them, they'll also extend into the carapace to add a look of continuity. The remaining three carapace pieces require greenstuff, and the main head piece will post likely be fully sculpted so that I can make it overhang the mouth part. I'm really not too pleased with the PotC Kraken mouth as of yet, and I may rip it off and resculpt it like the Leviathan from the Avengers. Currently though, I'm not too worried since it'll be mostly covered in explosions anyways. The 3 main tentacles will be added after the 4th plate is done. Where I had planned to have one of the main tentacles to go has ended up being in the place where the 4th/5th carapace plates meet, so I may either have them split or have some sort of joining piece there. The 3 face-vents will be sculpted after the main tentacles are added.

Thanks bud, those Night Lords are about to receive some Iron Warriors and Red Corsair reinforcements as I have the ships for it. Though I am looking forward to starting a SM fleet. I just wish more people played this game to keep interest peaked.

The tyranid is also looking nasty! Reminds me of an episode of one of those survival shows where a fella ate a grub (in Africa), what you created is very reminiscent. A leviathan look alike would be interesting too, I liked how that thing was covered in armor and served as a carrier.

Hushrong: I saw your list on the SM fleet. I can't wait for that!! :D :D Especially if you can get it themed like you want. I really liked the leviathan from the movie, its too bad all the screenshots on Google images were basically all from the same direction. ;(

Some pictures were removed because they were not Adamantium related. The URLs are still there, though.

Finally finished the first Lunar class cruiser. Took a while to sort out the prow since I some time ago snipped it off...I guess... I also assembled the four discovered cruisers as well. Two Armageddons and two Dictators. I'm one Lunar and three Sword frigates away from a playable 1500 fleet list. :)

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/IMG_2911-1.jpg

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/IMG_2915.jpg

This was a post from Warseer that I couldn't get enough laughs out of. I'm sure Lewis will get the same enjoyment. :D

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/b3dee354.jpg

I also worked on the tentacle plates. I'm not entirely too pleased with them but they were really difficult to do near the tips so I just left them as is.

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/sho...79/IMG_2912.jpg

And I'm almost done with the most difficult part of the sculpt: The head chitin plate. I had no idea of how I wanted to work it and I think the way it finally turned out is suitable enough for what I wanted. Once this third layer of greenstuff (for that single plate) hardens, I'll sculpt some stuff around the third tentacle similar to that of the Barbed Hierodule. I will also add 1-2 longer plates on the tentacles near the body as well. The 3 exhaust points near the head will probably be sculpted last. I'm dryfitting the rest of the tentacles as well, thats an interesting situation, I may need to make another 30+ tendrils for what I want to execute.

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/IMG_2916.jpg

What I'm also really pleased with is the fact that the body of this thing is about the length of an IN cruiser, so not oversized (in my opinion) at all! It does seem to have more mass (fat butt) but I don't think its overly large.

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/sho...79/IMG_2917.jpg

My sister and I also bought my father an air compressor and nailgun, so I'm tempted to purchase an airbrush to give these black bases a bit of a theme, maybe some nebulae or something.

Thanks for looking guys. :)

the nid ship is coming along fantastic brother

concerning the compressor i'd be careful, i think it might generate too much pressure for an airbrush.

Thanks Astador and Wicced! The compressor goes to as low as 40 psi, so about 30 too high for an airbrush... :cuss oh well!

The SDTM (Space Dick Tentacle Monster as coined by Sachiel) is at a point where I am almost ready to paint. With my six week summer course starting tomorrow, my time with the June comp has definitely been shortened. At least I was able to get the bulk of the work done in the past 10 days. I have some minor sculpts to fix (there was some massive snapping when I tried the double pinning...) and I need to fix one of the chitin plates on the center tentacle because of the extreme curve that I put on it which was expected. After the fix ups, I have 64 smaller tentacles to attach in clusters of 20 or so. Some will be smashing through bulkheads and some will be wrapping around the hull just like the Bakka image. I glued the bottom most main tentacle a bit too close to the center one (wasn't planned, just wound up like that) so I'll need to rethink how I plan on doing that. I am really pleased how it looked on a flying stand. I think it was almost passable to be a cruiser or hive ship.

I had no idea of what I was doing with the head chitin plate, so I just made a protective shroud (which doesn't actually protect it from a frontal assault) and called it good. I've about burned myself out on sculpting anyways. :D The base has also warped, so I glued more popsicle sticks underneath perpendicular to those already there. It helped a little but not a lot. I'm contemplating just scrapping this base and using the other spare that I have. We'll see!

Enough gab, the pictures!

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/sho...79/IMG_2921.jpg

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/sho...79/IMG_2924.jpg

http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j276/shortsonfire79/IMG_2925.jpg

Let me know what you think, many thanks!

Edit: hahaha, I have received a few comments on the dorsal batteries pointing straight down. I realize how stupid this looks but the two columns of spires running down the side prevent the guns from turning far enough to aim at the beasty. I'll think about how I want to tackle that, but thank you for letting me know!
