Automatic Hits and Cover Saves

As the title says, are Automatic Hits still allowed Cover Saves?

 

This has recently come up in play after my buddies Warphead Zzaped one of my units in cover and I automatically removed him due to Instant Death. Looking back, my thought is he would receive a cover bonus because the "shooting sequence" is:

 

3) Roll to Hit

4) Roll to Wound

5) Take Saving Throws

 

To me, an automatic hit takes care of step 3 but steps 4 and 5 would be resolved as normal. Any thoughts? Thanks.

You do still receive a cover save.

 

The oponent can ignore the roll to hit step ONLY, everything else still occurs as normal.

Thanks...clearly I have a lot to learn about maneuvering my Marines. Against Ork armies with AP 4 or 5 weapons, I hadn't been placing Marines in cover due to the "why bother, I'll use Armor Save anyways." Looks like I need to get into a better habit of seeking cover.

 

On the other hand, the Warphead's Frazzle power is a Blast, so I'm assuming just like normal shooting rules, I would receive no Cover Save.

You receive cover saves from blast weapons. Template weapons (like flamers) do not allow cover saves.
