Rogue
Hello I was looking at the rules for shooting a tank, then asaaulting units forced to disembark from it. What isn't covered is this: Can I shoot an empty tank, then assault the unit that bought it, even if they were elsewhere at the time? Example - my assault cannon armed terminators are 5" from a squad of marines in one direction, with the marines' dedicated transport rhino 23" in the other direction. Can they assault cannon the rhino, then turn round and assault the marines. Looking at the codex, the transport vehicle is bought as part of the unit, in similar fashion to buying extra marines, so... This isn't from a game situation or anything, I'm just curious. Gaz1858
Once disemabarked they are treated as seperate units for game purposes Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/151482-are-tanks-part-of-a-unit-all-the-time/#findComment-1762342 Share on other sites
WarpSpawn
See page 92 of the BRB under the heading of "multiple unit choices". Edit: It would not even be technically correct to describe them as the same unit whilst embarked, even though you cannot pick the passengers out as a seperate target. Also, passengers are free to shoot a different target to the vehicle. Iron_Chaos_Brute
No, they cannot. They have to charge what was in the vehicle. Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/151482-are-tanks-part-of-a-unit-all-the-time/#findComment-1762607 Share on other sites
nighthawks
they have to charge the vehicle - not the disembarked passengers. they MAY charge the passengers as well, if you can make it work as described on P41 of the BRB Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/151482-are-tanks-part-of-a-unit-all-the-time/#findComment-1763007 Share on other sites
Ganuus
Though chances are if the squad disembarked because of you shooting their transport, it was likely destroyed. You cant charge something that's dead, unfortunately. Reglor
they have to charge the vehicle - not the disembarked passengers. they MAY charge the passengers as well, if you can make it work as described on P41 of the BRB You can assault the pasengers of a destroyed vehicle with a unit that shot the vehicle. "... if a transport is destoyed (either result) by a ranged attack, the unit that shot it may assault the now disembarked passengers, ...." nighthawks
in that case, yes - as Ganuus points out, there's no vehicle left to assault when passengers have been forced to disembark (as it is wrecked). the OP asked if he could shoot the dedicated transport and then charge the owning unit, even if they were not embarked when the shots were made. the answer is no, or as on P.41 in the BRB for multiple assaults. greatcrusade08
I thought the rules were if you shot and wiped out a unit, you could then charge a different unit in the assault phase. Am i wrong? If this were the case then as long as you destroyed the transport outright (a 5 or 6 on pen hit table) then you could charge the unit. WarpSpawn
I'm afraid you are wrong, yes. You wipe out a unit, you can't charge anything that turn (unless it was a transport and it's passengers disembarked and survived). stinkoman
Also, passengers are free to shoot a different target to the vehicle. So what makes that true? the fact that the squad and the vehicle are two different units? i couldn't find any writing to back me up on this today and didn't feel like arguing so i shot them both a the same target. WarpSpawn
Yep, the fact that they are two seperate units. The main rulebook is admittedly unclear on this point but the FAQ doc confirms it.
