djkest
Okay, so I started thinking about how I want my army to look, and I really like the idea of red, it's something that's fairly eye-catching and unique, in my opinion. The only other armies I can think of that do red are blood angels. So in the end, red is a color many associate with Chaos. Reading through the codex, I saw "dragon warriors", and I was thinking, hey, aside from the slightly cheesy name, this could be very cool. They have no fluff, but they do have a tiny bump in direction: Close combat specialists. Prefer flamer and melta weapons. I thought: hey, I like close combat, I'm already taking lots of berzerkers, and I also am doing melta and flamer weapons. Seems like I'm already there! So I guess I was thinking about some fluff, and some way to make the whole thing come together. So close combat, I'm thinking Slaneesh and Khorne. Berserkers, being a purely melee focused unit, seem appropriate for this cause, as does say a unit of possessed. I'm thinking stay away from Preditors, Vindicators, Havocs (unless set up as a flamer death squad), and probably Thousand Sons. I'm thinking no plasma weapons, no lascannons, and no missile launchers. Which leads me to ponder, a land raider has lascannons on it, and I can't exactly change the rules- so what to do about that? Also, I was planning on taking a vindicator, and considering defilers in the future. Could you see these types of units fitting in with the fluff an overall theme of a close combat oriented army? I suppose vindicators are short range, need to get in fairly close, so that MIGHT justify their use. Defilers can take flamers, and they can also have 5 close combat attacks if you swap weapons for CCW- simply having a massive melee capability leads me to believe defilers could well fit into this fluff. I'm working on a squad of dragon warriors CSM, it's a WIP... should be able to show some of that off soon. Mainly, they all have horns on their helmets (trying to stick with the theme!) and I'm putting tabards/ loincloths/ whatever they are called coming down from their waist. Still looking for a way to represent the scale on these guys. Any comments/ thoughts would be appreciated. minigun762
Ordnance weapons seem appropriate, big firey explosions and lots of boom! I wouldn't take straight Beserkers, mostly because 1) everyone takes them it seems and 2) close combat specialist =/= a Beserkers necessarily. Instead I'd take something like this: 10 CSMs, Flamer, Meltagun, Champion, Power Fist/Weapon and Icon of Khorne Or break it into 2 types of squads, anti-horde (Flamer/Power Weapon) and anti-big stuff (Meltas/Power Fist) Raptors or Havocs could also work in this kind of fashion. Terminators, with Heavy Flamers and Combi-Meltas seem like another natural addition.
