Truescale Kharn during the heresy

Well...it's been a while, and what with real life finally getting out of the way I thought I'd get soem opinions on my current project.

I'm building (and eventually painting) a Pre-heresy truescale version of Khârn for one of my gaming club. All he specified was "Big, Badass, Helmetless, Chainaxe and no armour on the left arm", so i had a lot of creative freedom.

Many hours of research, and a huge leap in sculpting i came up with this as a representation of everyones favourite Psycho (with thanks of course to Doghouse, Synapse et al for the inspiration!)

his head...decided that he should have corn rows and dreads flailing around behind him while he takes a swing at the loyalists!

Finally a comparison shot with one of my white scar Tactical marines.....fully a head taller. Scary enough?

Hmmmm............

Difficult. I'd say firstoff that I like it - its completely different from mine, which is always good. Secondly, I'd say that I love the sculpting on his hair - it looks top notch. However, the only criticism I can find is that the sculpting on the chest plate looks a bit...well.....half arsed - even if its meant to be battle damaged. It just looks too...uneven. I'm sure ceramite dents - but that just looks maybe a wee bit too far. Of course if you're happy with it, stick with it -_-

Looks really cool, only thing I'm still trying to visualize is what his bare hand is doing. It just seems out of place from the rest of the figure and may need an "adjustment"?

What I mean is he's easily roaring if you will, but his hand is palm down fingers outstretched, wouldn't palm up curved be better?

Either way that hair is just cool. :HQ:

  • 1 month later...

well he's got some paint on him now....not quite finished (still need to smooth the transitions on the armour) but this is after about 35 hours work. My first attempt at lunchbox's glazing method, it's turned out much better than i could've hoped.

As some of you may notice i completely changed the chest armour, giving him a much smoother Mk3 chestplate and adding the WE logo. He's also been "dinged" in a few places with my dremel to represent battle damage, I wanted it to look like he'd just charged through a wall of the palace!

Now I just need to decide if he should have blood splatter, and if so how much...obviously as an assault captain he'll have some on the chainaxe and and the left side of his armour, but how much would be too much? I don't want to cover up the armour and hours of paintwork, but i still want to give the impression of a frothing blood crazed loony...

anyway, enough rambling, here's the pics

Looks very good!

Question, what reference did you use? He looks like wearing mostly the stuff as the actual model, i.e. chains, the one arme without armour etc. What about his hair andso on? I´m very interested where you got this from.

Cheers
