JetfireUK
Hi All, Some of you would have seen the progress of my latest miniature - Abaddon the Despoiler in the WIP forum. Anyway, I've now finished the figure and I'm 85% happy with the result. I've used the NMM technique mostly for the gold armour trim, with a an attempt for the steel on his twin linked bolters. I decided in the end to use Boltgun Metal for the trophy racks as I knew my limits for painting NMM steel. For the colour palette I used Hash's technique of Chaos Black, Snakebite Leather and Skull White. Overall I like the effect but in future I think that I'll limit NMM for power weapons rather than the entire trim of the armour. I'd really like some honest crtitque - I know that I'm not on par with a number of talented artists on this forum but any suggestions will help for my next projects. Cheers, JetfireUK http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y104/JetfireUK/SL270644.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y104/JetfireUK/SL270645.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y104/JetfireUK/SL270646.jpg http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y104/JetfireUK/SL270647.jpg

Ganuus
Honest critique: Get better camera skills. :P Try and dull his armor plate, the shine kills the look of the not shiny NMM
JetfireUK
Cheers for the comment - I'll and take better photos tomorrow during the daytime. Edit: here's a better shot: http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y104/JetfireUK/SL270649.jpg
Cornelias
really good job, nice touch and a bit different from the norm adding the purple  can't understand why they didn't make that part from the basing kit fit properly on a large round base ^_^ i had to chip away some of it away and add some gravel :ermm:
JetfireUK
really good job, nice touch and a bit different from the norm adding the purple ^_^ can't understand why they didn't make that part from the basing kit fit properly on a large round base ;) i had to chip away some of it away and add some gravel  Thanks very much. I think that my attempt of NMM didn't quite work out, but I enjoyed painting the figure and it looks pretty cool. It definitely stands out more than my figures painted with metallic paints. I always thought that purple was a Chaos colour and it sets off the gold effect nicely. I totally agree with your comments on the basing kit - you can probably see my attempt at green stufing around the base to try and make it fit in. Perhaps GW will re-vise these as the basing kit does come in handy.
Cornelias
yeah i was really happy with the basing kit overall, i used the little cogs as ad mech symbols( with a skull carefully shaved from a backpack) on my Master of the forge's bike  your dead right about the purple very chaos, i'm not the best person to critique on your NMM as i've never been a huge fan of it in the first place but looks like a good enough attempt to me so well done :D
JetfireUK
NMM is like Marmite - people either love it or hate it. I think that the idea behind (i.e. blending) is very useful and I'll probably try it on power weapons but not to the same extent as here. Something people are gifted and can make it look very realistic. Still it was a good experiment - especially as it turned out better than I expected. Ganuus
Now that I can see good detail, you're right about it not quite being right. Then again, it's pretty spectacular at anything past close inspection. Just sharpen up the edges of the different colors, I think.
