None of them are 100% done. They never are by my reckoning. I'd call these 97% done. :)

Random Purity seals need word scribbles, bases need basing, shoulder plaque needs writing, random other stuff I'm compelled to paint on, etc etc etc......but who knows if/when I'll ever get around to that.

I reckon my camera kinda sucks because it seems to have ignored most/all of the highlighting with the flash turned off (these pictures) and they look like they're glowing with the flash on. :tu:

BTW: A bazillion is actually more like 35-50 in this case (been a while since I counted).

EDIT: 38 HQ models. 5113 points worth

EC,

Long time. So when are we going to get to see some of these puppies on the table?

I like them a lot. The standard bearer is very cool looking.

Scheduling has been hit and miss for us, but we're still hitting GW Rice at least 2-3 times a month <hint, hint>

I can see that you are developing a talent for laying down clean coloring where it needs to be without getting tiny blotches of paint on the wrong parts.

It doesn't seem to me like you have delved very far into washes or highlighting territory, but I will say that getting down clean painting first and foremost is a talent and a patience that most painters tend to overlook.

Rather than jumping on to the washing and highlighting train at this point, I'd encourage you to make it a point to developing your clean painting technique as much as possible before venturing into other territory.

This is good for two reasons:

1) It will give you good practice in fine brush stroking.

2) You can go back to your cleanly painted minis at a later point to add washing and highlighting when you are ready.

There can be entire tomes written about washing and highlighting and I'd encourage you to read up on some tutorials about it before you try it again. There are some very good ones on coolminiornot.com

Thanks.

@Honda:

I will try and drop by with my Marines maybe after Thanksgiving? I'm up in Nacogdoches for school now, otherwise you'd see me down there. When do you guys generally play? I can be there at like 4 or 5 on thursdays up til like noon on sundays. I have a rather slow school scedule this semester...it just takes me 3+ hours to drive down....

@Sigvatr: I don't like washes on most things. Too messy. Actually IRL there's highlighting on every edge of each model...my camera just kinda ignores them...

Look at the crevasses of the Standard Bearer's shoulder pad for a visible example of the fade to dark that I do instead of black-lining, and look at the creases in the top of the standard for highlighting, In real life those are VERY different blues. Ice Blue and Ultramarines Blue in fact.

I'm not sure how or why my camera ignores highlighting, but it does *shrug*

I think it might just be that I've not found the posts, but I've been looking for some pics of your much-regarded collection of marines. <_<

Anyway, they do look quite sick. I love the freehanding on the banner. I might use it as some more reference for finishing my own freehanded 2nd Company standard, which is VERY WiP. Any tips on the colors for the eagle? I was planning on straight up NMM, but might just go with leather tones for ease of painting.

Yep yep. I fail at basing. I really do need to, but I just can't seem to compel myself to most of the time. Only a few of my Marines have grass or anything (a Veteran Sergeant, a Chaplain, PA Calgar, The Emperor's Champion, and like a Grey Knight Terminator). I will try to remember to grab some basing material next time I'm at Hobby Lobby so I can get that done.

Actually these are effectively the only models I have picture o on the B&C.

I just FINALLY got my camera from Houston, I forgot it over and over and over til now. I'll be posting more soon.

It's been a little while since I painted my banner, but I think basically I used Shining Gold mixed with Golden Yellow for the main part, Shining Gold mixed with Snakebite Leather for some of the darker bit, Shinning Gold mixed with Chaos Black from the darkest lines, and then Shining Gold mixed with Skull White, Bleached Bone or even Elf Flesh for the highlights. My guess is Bleached Bone.

I guess you can't tell in the picture, but the eagle and stuff on the banner does have a metallic shine from the paint. I aimed for the middle ground between the oldschool yellow Aquila on the banner and the yellow=gold update that effected the whole 2nd Company. It worked out fairly well.

As requested, here are all my Ultramarines HQ models....or most of them at least.

They are on the front part. The stuff up on the ledge in the back are other misc. Marines.

Here I left the flash on so that maybe the insane lighting would show some of the highlighting rather than totally ignoring it. The real life colors are somewhere in between, but a TON closer to the flashless pictures I first posted..

Some of the models at the edges of the pictures are closer to the real colors.
