Be26
The new Sternguard bolter rounds are a glorious addition, because now I can thumb my nose at opponents who insist on playing Khorne and Slaaneshi Daemons in the same army even more efficiently, but the Vengeance rounds have made me ask some questions about the Gets Hot that the B&C would be best placed to answer. My understanding is that when rapid firing a Gets Hot weapon, a roll of 1 on one die and a successful hit on the other die means that one shot will hit and the firing model will be required to take an armour save, which is fair enough. The question arises when I put Captain Lysander with a unit of Sternguard; Bolter Drill states that I can re-roll any missed to-hit rolls when firing a bolt weapon and the Vengeance rounds come with the Gets Hot irritance. This would imply that if, say, I roll snake eyes, I can re-roll the dice and the Gets Hot rule won't apply unless I roll a 1 when re-rolling, but sometimes these rules don't quite follow common sense. The burden appears to lie with my opponent proving that it isn't the case rather than me proving it is, but it never hurts to get another interpretation. If you're too lazy to read the anti-Daemons rhetoric and such, I sympathise. When firing Vengeance rounds with Captain Lysander attached, does the Bolter Drill rule take precedent over the Gets Hot rule or not? JamesI
If you get to reroll (such as bolter drill) the first roll never occured. So as long as the second roll is not a 1, no overheat. ShinyRhino
It might be worth noting that you are not firing a bolter when you use the combi-part of the weapon. You are firing a plasmagun. One of the Sterngaurd bolter rounds has the gets hot rule. I think the OP was refering to that. Erm... this is a special bolt round, not a combi-weapon. And to the OP I would say that common sense does dictate that they would ignore the first result, even if it's a 1, as Lysander is experienced enough to know exactly what to do with a bolter in order to avoid it heating to dangerous levels (perhaps he has developed for his sternguard a bolter which has 'flaps' on the side to be opened to let the hot air out?) ShinyRhino
*headslap* That'll teach me to read twice before posting! I'd agree with the assessment that you'd get a reroll of the miss, and the overheat never happened. The previous result of a reroll never applies, even if the old result was better than the new one. nighthawks
Edit - ninjas... teach me to answer the phone while typing a post... the OP is not referring to combi-plasma weapons, but to the special issue ammo "vengence rounds" which are rapid fire, gets hot! just like a plasmagun, but ARE bolter-fired, thus benefitting from bolter drill. OP- see the BRB ranged weapon descriptions, there is a note on rerolls with gets hot! that basically says a re-reollable to hit roll of 1, a miss, may be rerolled and not get hot so long as the reroll is not also a 1.
