lmyrick
Ok, with the assistance of these boards, I've managed to paint up my first two Ultramarines. You'll note that with one I tried NMM, and I'm not real thrilled with the result, but interested in what you think. These are 2nd Co. Tac marines. I wanted to try a couple of different paint techniques before I dove in head first with the rest of the army. Let me know what you think. http://lelandmyrick.com/40k_figs/IMG_3727.JPG http://lelandmyrick.com/40k_figs/IMG_3726.JPG http://lelandmyrick.com/40k_figs/IMG_3729.JPG
St.Gabriel
I think they look great, nicely done all round. personally I like the nmm look, but there is the time-cost-benefit analysis of painting a whole army that way :D
The Emperor's Champion
Lookin pretty good. :)
JetfireUK
The figures are well painted. I would agree with what someone else mention earlier - the NMM looks okay but it's quite time intensive when doing an entire army. I would say to stick with metallics and perhaps use the NMM shoulderpads on character models to help them stand out more.
JEFF4i
Those are your first two Tac Marines, like ever? You do your chapter justice.
lmyrick
Thanks, all. These are my first Tac Marines, yes. My first 40K figs period. Done some historical minis and Reaper figs for D&D, but completely new to 40K. Painting power armor is not quite like painting anything else. JEFF4i
Now we just have to get you from the smurfs, :D Don't listen to The_Emperors_Champion. He's an Ultramarine zealot.
Thunder_god
E_C is not the only UM zealot around here! And by the way, I wish my first two marines looked that good some years ago. Very, very, nice.
The Emperor's Champion
Not exactly a zealot per se. Champion is more like it. It's my task to defend the Chapter's honor. :P I'm dedicated to crushing the overly abundant fallacies regarding the Ultramarines and setting the record straight. I can also sell you any other Chapter without bias if you want (even tho I am biased) and I can tell you the ACTUAL downsides to the Ultramarines if you want. I think THAT is the exact reason why so many players come to the UM forum to ask us the good and bad about the Chapters they are considering. We (the "Veteran" members of the UM sub-forum) won't go nuts trying to shove our personal favorite Chapter down their throats (unlike GW). We like seeing people play the Chapter they really want, it keeps people playing the game.;) I have waaaaaaaay too many nicknames IRL and now on the B&C.... The Emperor's Champion The Emperor (cuz of how my name gets cut off) TEC E_C The Champion Emp's Champ etc etc
OwenCrute
Let's not turn this into a UM rant, youse guys. Very nicely painted models, especially for a first time 40k painter. NMM I personally don't really like- altogether too artificial looking for me. Did you mean them to be that shiny? IMO that's not a bad thing, but some people on the B&C are advocates of matt-varnishing models. Not sure why.

The middle pic was one that I took before matte varnish, the other two were after matte varnish. I've replaced the middle pic with a current one with varnish. Personally I think the NMM looks better on your models. It is always personal preference. I really like the look of NMM, but I couldn't paint it if my life depended on me, so I use metallics. Overall great work. I would love to see more of your UM force as you go along.

Actually the figs are from either Black Reach or Macragge, two piece models, full bodies + bolter w/ hands.
