Night Stalker
Just a quick thing to add on to Cathars point about techmarines not falling to chaos as well. Techmarines spend years on mars, and so they would have to not only break their oath to the imperium and the Emperor, but also to the omnissiah if they fell to chaos, not something that is likely to happen, especially with all the bionics in their brain programming them to stay loyal. i wonder why then half of the adeptup mechanicus fell to chaos during HH ... :D Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/152033-big-shiny-chaosy-space-marine-stuff/page/2/#findComment-1778005 Share on other sites
Captain Malachi
Different thing entirely, they only had the omnissiah, techmarines have the Emperor as well, the mechanicus have no real loyalty to Him. cathar the great
Point is - GW just give us guidelines - not set of rules write down in stone - we are free to modify it :D Just no, sorry. I don't want to be an ass or something (you would know if I did), but this is just something essential to me. You can say so with fluff, yes, this is a bunch of information we can use to create the 40k-Universe for ourselves. But not with game rules. Chaos Space Marines are meant to be played a certain way, and so are Space Marines and Eldar and so on... Each race has its strengths and weaknesses, and taking these away by combining rules of different races would just take away the fun. You, Night Stalker, take time and effort to create homegrown rules for Renegades and you did a nive job, but with the opener of this thread, it just seemed to me, that all he wants is more flashy (shiny) stuff to play with. This is just something I don't like in any way. The Chaos dex has some very interesting and cool options (you don't HAVE to play 2 DP with lash, people) and building army lists with it is just as much fun as with the new Space Marine codex. To me, this whole request was just out of desire to have an excuse to get the newly released stuff... EDIT: on the mechanicus issue: It was just an example, I didn't even mean Techmarines, just the usual support staff like lower Tech-Adepts and Chapter-serfs. They might not play a great role most of the time, but I don't think a fully grown chapter can exist without human helping hands. Imagine an Apothecary cooking for the company LOL Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/152033-big-shiny-chaosy-space-marine-stuff/page/2/#findComment-1778017 Share on other sites
Night Stalker
I created rules for the legion, my planned Renegade codex is not released yet [not to mention i dont have final version of it] Yeah, for tournament scene, i agree with You. For pick up games as well. For fluffy games official codices are not so important, not to mention there are others homegrown rules [like scenario rules and few or nil rule tweaks] so we can agree to agree cathar the great. i'm also against fluff excuse to make powerful build even more powerful [2xlash princes backed up by rhino zerkers and drop pod zerkers - all with fists, with few ironclad dreads as addition - or few soulgrinders and proper greater daemon] [i do not play power builds outside tournament - and even there i sometime use not-so-point-efficient-units] Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/152033-big-shiny-chaosy-space-marine-stuff/page/2/#findComment-1778117 Share on other sites
Cmndr Sarpedon
I'm ok with taking home-grown drop pods, but other than that no. By taking units from other armies you take away all of your weknesses. hell, do you want tau to have crisi suits with plasma cannons on them or world eaters in ork battlewagons (AV 14 front armor and open topped with a transport capacity of 20 models so they can assault a maximum sized squad of berzerkers or terminators out of the front for half the cost of a land raider.) Armies are given the units an weapons they have to balance the game. there's a reason why rhinoe's aren't open topped. Zerks in battlewagons... that is the SICKEST idea I'v heard all day. In apoc could I do that? And back on subject; no, you cannot mix and match the two codexes, no matter how similar or complimantary they are to each other.
