Iron Warrior Elites/Special Squad

Hello,

I've been an Iron Warrior player ever since the heady days of 2nd Edition. I've always loved the idea of extensive Bionics. I nearly died with glee when they released the Iron Hands Bionicy bits years back. I, thankfully before GW bits service closed, promptly order ten sets of bionic legs and other bits and pieces.

I've built a squad that is heavily bionicizied (whatever...) with lots of bionic legs, and bits taken from the techmarine harness as arms etc.

They look very distinctive and seperate from the rest of my army. I was wondering what people think of me using them as Plaguemarines. Fluffwise it makes sense. I.E lots of bionics (I mean like 75% bionic) would confer the toughness and feel no pain as well as the drawbacks like initiative 3 and so on.

Fluff wise I want them to be veterans who have been replaced any corrupted limbs with bionics to the extent that they are, to be cliched, 'More Machine than Man'

They are tough as old boots due to being pretty much robots. I think it works quite well.

The only thing I can't really reconcile with the fluff is Blight Grenades. They don't really fit.

Does this seem ok?

Thanks in Advance!

PS Hope to get some pics up of these bad dudes soon!

Yep it fine with the new codex it is a free for all now. Also this is what I been point out to people with the cult unit & IW, useing the "count as" rule, like you said with the Death Guard units, just merely show some high up bionic IW.

While Thasound Son's can rep a specil elite shooting squad with force feild. But like Specil unit in say Star War Close armies like you have ARC, Shadow trooper, etc...

Slannesh... up to you.

End of the day it is your army & mainly thing is... dose the models look cool really.

I agree entirely. Like IP says, the main thing is do the models look cool. Many people will agree with you, some won't. See the justifying a daemon prince thread for more entertaining arguments on the subject and an interesting idea for an Iron Warriors DP.
Since blight grenades make the unit count as in cover, I always thought that a good "counts as" solution was giving the unit large shields like the kind used by fantasy chaos warriors and so they would use the shields to create a wall 300 style and this would count as being in cover/having blight grenades.

That would be cool, but it would be a shame to obscure the bionics. How about some sort of field generators like the Big Mek's but scaled down. They'd fit in with the bionics theme and could represent some sort of disruption/lightning field. I like the smoke launchers idea too, people would know exactly what they'd represent.

I wonder if you could use that shields idea to make Iron Warrior Obliterators, they can reshape their bodies after all. Shame there's no storm shields in the codex, but with all the ICs getting an invunerable save you could stick the shields on and call them combat shields.

I agree, it sounds like PM's are the best things to represent what you've built.

I wouldn't worry too much about blight grenades, They could be something like flash/bang grenades or VERY bright, blinding flash of light, or a chemical agent like chemical mace that is thrown or sprayed if they are charged.

I am currently building non-PM "PM's" for my BL army. I am using the FB shields, like Rain suggested to you (along with only the sholderpads that have the raised neck/face extra protection), but I agree the shields would cover up too much of your bionics conversion work. Just go with them as is, all the bionics more the covers the T5 and fnp.

Can't wait to see pic's.
