Dragons
Yes, but how do you pull that trick? (And please correct me if I'm wrong, I'm just catching up with my DH in 5th.) Smoke launchers, and force weapons, are clearly viewed in BRB. How do you make them work under USR rules of any codex specifics takes precedence? Because the rules in the Codex take precedence. For example Nemesis Force Weapon is NOT a Force Weapon. There is no mention of it in the rulebook. Smoke Launchers are not just CALLED Smoke Launchers in our codex.. They work differently because they are DEFINED differently.. And in this situation.. because of the precedence they work BETTER.. Other cases (THSS) they don't work as well. USR's are ONLY Universal if they are not contradicted in the Codeci. Until we get an updated codex of our own.. Our old and out-of-date rules ARE the rules. House Rules can change ANY or ALL of them though.. Personally I suggest an 'All or Nothing' approach. -Dragons Link to comment https://bolterandchainsword.com/topic/152184-pimp-my-gm/page/2/#findComment-1814157 Share on other sites
revnow
Actually, there is a much better justification for both old smoke launchers and force weapons than the simple "Codex overrules BRB". The new rules for both are explicitly stated as being "general" in the BRB, with specific exceptions being detailed in certain respective codices (BRB p. 62, p. 50). @number6: I see now what you are talking about. It does seem that storm shields exist in a bit of a grey area given that they count as a single handed weapon, but are indeterminable in their position as a special weapon. I can only find them urge precedence when contradicting USR rules. (I know this is truly heretic thoughs from me, please burn me into enlightment :) ) Edit: missed revnow while writing - thanx! Grand Master Iapetus
Thank you Dragons for helping me out here!Yes, but where is the statement of Codex taking precedence? I can only find them urge precedence when contradicting USR rules. (I know this is truly heretic thoughs from me, please burn me into enlightment ;) ) Edit: missed revnow while writing - thanx! The 2 most recent I am aware of are on the smoke launchers entry in the 5e rulebook, and the reference to dedicated transports from the 5e FAQ on page 4. This is the "A" for the question of dedicated transports: ...if a Codex clearly says that dedicated transports can only be used during the game by the unit that bought them, that overrules the general rule in the rulebook, as normal. Obviously some armies are stricter than others. (emphasis added) It seems to indicate this is the way GW wants the game to be played, and it seems to be a pretty consistent statement throuout 5e. Overall, it would better serve GW to do a real FAQ and address the differences just to avoid arguments with other players. I totally see the other side..."but the 5e rulebook says it right here - you can't do that."
