my rune priest in terminator Armour making 32 saves agents a squad of gaunts firing at him, or the time a group of gray knights terminators Deep striked right in front of my vindicator, all were covered by my template, and i roll a hit on my scatter and the gray knights fail all of their invulnerable saves
2ed . my very first game with sw ever . we deploy our armies . my friend gives me a strategy card , my opponent gets another . i get the "one units shots or goes on to over watch"i decide to shot . My 20 wolf guard terminators with cyclon each blow up my opponets deployment ... thats after he took out around 200 metal guants [his deploying took around an hour] . his army is gone and he starts to pack his stuff . when he gets around half of the gaunts back in to their boxs , the shop owner [and the guy who made me start w40k with the vision of squats coming soon  ] tells us we forgot about the lictor . the guy doesnt want to play but we roll of what happens . I of course dont detect them . he charges my termis kills 2 ....and I roll a 12 on break test . a 20 man WG unit with attached Iron priest with wolf pelt and power generators and a two lvl 4 rune priests goes puff [yes I did roll 3" for runing away].
well one day some 13th company guys tried to knock out my great company for using their colors. well a wolf lord, wolf priest, rune priest and a long fang pack with plasma guns gated right in front of one of my squads, but didn't hurt them. next turn only one of my reserves came in and it was a vindi. let me just say he lost all three of his HQs and a pricey heavy unit in about 2 seconds. my next was with my guard, when i had sentinels. three of them at the start of the game, and all but one was destroyed, and that one had no weapons. so i launched him at a squad of 20+ gaunts. needless to say he couldn't hurt it so i just kept kill one gaunt for the next 4 turns. in the end thanks to a Junior office assaulting the same squad, i won a minor victory in what should have been a a big loss on my side.

My best battle was the battle that made me a Space Wolf! I knew nothing of the Wolves. Their 3rd eddition codex was brand new.

I was/am a Necron player. This was in 3rd eddition and my necrons were pre-codex from white dwarf ( chapter approved) no phase out.

I think I had: 1 lord with resorb and teleport

3 X 10 warriors

10 Imortals

3 destroyers

and a Vehicle creation rules: 200 pt Skimmer with 6 Gaus Blasters ( imortal weapons) and 1 Heavy gauess.

my opponent

Space Wolves

I think he had:

HQ ( WGBL, LORD, WP I have no idea which) on a bike with 6-7 bodygaurds on Bikes and fenris Wolves

1 x 15 blood claws pack with WGL+pwr weap and HQ ( WGBL, LORD, WP I have no idea which)

1 Grey Hunter pack WGL+pwr weapon /Rhino

Wolf scouts / w WG battle leader +pwr weap and Land raider

Turn 1)

I wasn't the best player back then. I set my guys up in a battle line and held a hill on my table edge about 8 inches in. I didn't move. With all weapons out of range, I just waited. I teleporteed my imortals and Lord to his table edge and killed half his BC pack from shooting Assault two weapons. Then I wanted to have assaulted to finish them off I was told that I couldn't assault out of deepstrike. uh oh! My destroyers imobilised his land raider.

his turn:

well while forces charged strait at me, ignoring the troops in the rear ( didn't know why. Every other army I had faced wouldn't let me get away with troops in their rear area lie that) .lost my skimmer to the Lascannons of his LAndraider. His wolf scouts were off the board and I didn't know why. He said that they were reserves and that he would have to role to get them in. I was like "sweet, he doesn't even get all his troops- good for me" His GH's Rhino rushed all speed strait for me and poped smoke. his Bikes charges strait toward me 24 inches. ( he turbo boosted- they hadn't FAQ'd the rule that said they couldn't)

His BC's and Leader shot the hell out of my Immortals and Lord and brought them to two or three imortals and a lord. They then assaulted with 30 attacks!!!! the 10+ power weapons killed all there was there. I couldn't reroll the immortals becasue none were there. The Lord did stand back up. ( back then with three wounds!)

Turn 2

My lord teleported back to my rear and scattered and landed on top of his bikes destroying him. My destroyers killed his land raider. One squad shot and killed a few dogs and BodyGaurds on bikes. the 2nd squad had declared against the Rhino and was mere milimeters out of range. the third was to my far right flank and was out of range so had moved to get into range but to no avail.

his turn his wolf scout appeared in my rear and start tearaing up the squad on my left flank. Meltagun plasma pistols, then I am asaulted and destroyed. His bikes shot up and combi-flamed the center line. and assaulted and wiped them out. his rhino full of troops made a Bee-line for the destroyers but didn't get there and moved to much to fire the bolters. and the BC's just moved as best they could toward the fight.

Turn 3

I had no WBB roles for the two squads as there were no warriors left. I had three destroyers and 1 squad left. I backed the destroyers up 12 inchs and fired at the bikes ( killing like the rest of the wolves and all but 1 bodygaurd thanks to failed saves) The warriors backed up toward some cover at their left.

His turn his rhino moved full toward the warriors and was within 12 inches of my warriors but couldn't do anything about it. His bike moved useing the rhino as cover. His scouts moved towrd the squad and his BC's just kept walking.

Turn 4

My destroyers moved to extreme range and attempted to destroy the rhino ( thinking a destroyed rhino might automaticly kill the troops inside.) and didn't get a glance. My warriors moved towrd cover attempted to shoot the rhino and did get the glance destroying the vehicle. He rolled for Pinning and passed. he had them exit the vehicle toward my warriors.

On his turn he moved his bike forward and shot my unit with a plasma pistol. droping a warrior and moved his GH forward without shooting. They all assalted with like 12 power weapon hits and 10 regular. I was wiped out. I had just the destroyers left. I conceded the game but my opponent wanted to play it out, because we thought that it might be fun to "cat and mouse" the destroyers.

Turn 5-6

Turn 5 the destroyers shot the HQ on the bike but he had runic armor and survived all 9 shots

Turn 6 they shot into the blood claws killing 6.

Noone could get a shot at them with their 24 inch movement and 36inch range. But the game was really over in turn at the end of turn 2.

My first big defeat - The Space Wolves got my attention and I bought a codex, a Marine Mega box, A space wolf battle force and a long fangs box ( to get all the Space wolf sprues) and am a 50/50 Necrons and Space Wolves Player

1000 v 1500pts, on the release day of necrons, against the stores army.

(the pts didn't matter, everyone wanted to fight and I wanted to be outnumbered) underestimated there firepower, wiping out my rather small force in a couple of turns with me killing only a few warriors (about 100pts worth rounded), but my 250pts wolf lord lasted 4 turns in continuous close combat, wiping out 1000pts single handedly, losing 0 wounds, unfortunately the game ended before I could kill the last 400pts, much to my opponents sweating brows relief.

never forget that one

Not sure about favorite battle, but favorite event was during 4th ed, when my opponent unleashed a bloodthirster and grinned ear to ear of the carnage he thought it would dish out. Only to be taken out when he assaulted my BC's who drop podded in the turn before. My WG had wolf pelt, Wolf Tooth necklace and thunder hammer.

Not my favorite battle, but definitely my favorite losing moment.

I was down to Wolf Guard Hakon's Grey Hunter squad. This is my favorite GH squad I own, and almost always the last to die. The points were 1850, and it had been a really close battle. He was down to 2 terminators with Lysander, 5 scouts flanking towards my objective, and 5 scouts holding his objective.

Hakon's boys were holding onto my objective, as they were the only men alive aside from the Wolf Guard Battle Leader Aesir, who was on the other end of the table. The remaining Grey Hunters were holding the objective when they got charged by 2 terminators with Lysander and a 5 man scout squad. The scouts were killed and the Hunters were reduced to Hakon and the power weapon. 5 of the Grey Hunters die in the charge from the terminators. The melee was a tie, but the two squads; his terminators and my Hunters were separated and one of our two squads had to pile in. If his guys piled in, they would be close to the objective, but not quite close enough to contest it. If my guys piled in, Hakon would move off the objective altogether. Since traditionally, the high die wins the tie and piles in first, we rolled off.

He rolls a 3. I roll a 3.

Reroll.

He rolls a 3. I roll a 3.

Reroll again.

He rolls a 1. I roll a 2.

With that roll, my Hunters piled in and off the objective. Those were the 3 most intense roll offs I've ever had.

Greatest defeats huh?

Well, a single blood claw one killed my friend's 3 Chaos Terminators and an Aspiring Champion Terminator.

Me: Ok, two wounds to your termies

Him: Right, 2+ armor save

(snake eyes)

Him: Invuln. save!

(2, 1)

Him: damn....

Also, I once had a Grey Hunters pack down to half strength, and my friends orks were about to charge me. He fires his looted wagons' boomgun and hits his squad of boyz, killing all 14 of them, and the GHs go on to wipe out the wagon and win the game.

My greatest was one of the first apoc games that I've been in.

Ragnar and a pack of BC's (yes, i know that in game terms there's no point in it, but whatever) attack a tactical marine unit in cover, manage to take out about half the squad, but they hold. the next turn another tac squad, and an assault squad pile into the combat and most of the bc's are killed, but ragnar survives and in the end wins combat, all Ld passed and combat continues. then, the next turn, a unit of assault marines and orc kommandos join the frey, at this point against JUST ragnar, he wins combat again, all Ld passed on his side. This combat then goes on (having absorbed ALL of the units on that side of the board) and ragnar holds until the end of the game, only taking 1 wound; enemy dead were 1 and a half tac squads, an entire assault squad and all of the orc kommandos. <3<3<3 Ragnar...

Well I'm not sure if we're supposed to be telling of the times we lost, or won, but I'll give an example of both. :D

First I'll start with a loss. It was a game against some random SM guy that had some nice traits with drop pods. He dropped in (getting in EVERYONE), unleashed into my Troops, vehicles, terminators, everything I had he had a squad to destroy it. Ended up blowing up my land raider (had it surrounded so everyone on the inside died), destroying all 3 of my speeders (separate squads no less!), killing 2 grey hunter squads (failed 12 out of 13 armor saving throws), lossing half a BC squad, oh, and my ven. dread was immobilized (had assault cannon) and weapon destroyed, so basically useless for the rest of the game. It was the perfect account of THE best rolling on my opponent's side, and the worst on my side.

Now for a win. It was the 2nd game of an RTT (I had won big my first game, so big I was in first place at the time). Ended up facing mech tau with my 13th company... We deployed (the opposite corner bit), and he had rows of his guys right at the 18" mark... I had a big grin, took my scouts move, took first turn, then had 45 fenrisian wolves in multiple assaults all along his front lines, piling into other units behind and totally decimating him by turn 3 nothing was left... it was the first time that no one else in my army had killed a single thing and 450 points ended up killing 1850 of tau... oh man did he ever learn his lesson. :P

I had to think about this a bit.... best defeat for me? My first game of 3rd edition. I was playing eldar with the shiny new blue codex and facing a man whod been playing chaos before second edition came out... and had atleast a year of 3rd ed on me. I was wiped to a man after the rules were explained to me. He was patient, he didnt chide me for my mistakes, and he praised the successes I made. At 1000 points I slew a whole 6 chaos marines, from four different squads... and I loved every minute of it. I got better too.

Best time defeating someone? Theres a punk at the store I play in. Hes rich, and hasnt ever gotten over that fact. Hes one who gives ranchers a bad name. Anyways... also plays eldar.... likes to go heavy on snipers and wraiths as he sees them as the most powerful things out there. I slay him to a man, losing 15 wounds and nothing below half strength. My favorite part was watching his Farseer take perils of the warp twice in a row and then not even moving the rest of the game. *sigh*. Hes been kind enough not to talk down to me about my tactics ever since.

My first defeat in 5th edition springs to mind...

First let me set the scene, I havd only recently started going to a new gaming group, and everyone I had seen to date was really nice, fair players. I get challended to a friendly game of 40K, my opponent shows up next week with a falcon and 2 prisims... yeah you can see where this is going.... ALL tanks had every upgrade that could be stuffed onto them.... and in the entire game I only scfratched one of the 3....

I did have a couple of saving graces however. I got a lucky shot off with a plasma pistol and his farseer failed his inv save... oops that was Str7... hehe boom headshot. Granted my assault marines got sorrunded by 2 full avenger squads and a guardian team...

The other guardian team underestimated the damage a 5 man dev squad can lay down... (remember this was pre C:SM and most marines didn't have boltpistols), he sneeked a unit of guardsmen and a warlock into the ground floor of a building where my dev squad on the first floor was battering the afore mentioned avengers with 4 HB's, I dropped down a floor and my opponent was grinning and bragging that I would never beat him in combat.... until I fired 5 bolt pistols and killed FIVE guardians, then charged and killed the squad to a man (Ok the gods of the dice liked me that turn), and whats worse, my consolidation move too me to the windows on teh ground floor so I could keep firing next turn!!! in the end I had killed one full avanger squad and crippiled the other guardian squad (the second avenger squad ran out of my range)... unfortunately my tacs got ripped to shreds and I lost all 3 tanks on turn one (and I went second). All in all I lost in KP 3:5, and on the last turn I finally managed to immobalise one prisim (i lost count of the number of melta shots I put into the blasted thing).

Best win: 1250 points of D'koi 13th Company ripping through 9000+ points of Necron warriors, Destroyers, Pariahs, Scarabs, 7 Lords, a Nightbringer, and a Deceiver, as well as three Monoliths.

Best last stand: One lone Wulfen holding up a ten-man Grey Knight Terminator squad, including Stern, for four turns while the rest of my D'koi dismantled the rest of the Grey Knight army.

Best loss: D'koi 13th holding the only line through a crack in impassible terrain, 2250 points of 13th, versus 10K+ of Necrons, Nids, and Khorne, while Ultras and Dark Angels allies used True Line of Sight to punk the few enemy elements that slipped through. Lost my entire army, but brought most of the enemy with me, and those that didn't die to me died to massed Marine fire.

Best "Last Man" wins:

One Meltagunner (last model on the board) shooting and assaulting his way through three five-man Dark Angels squads, running them off the board.

Storm Claw Sergeant Hoare taking down fifteen Dark Angels Deathwing termies and two Land Raiders via Meltabomb and Lightning Claws.

Wolf Lord T'lash running back and forth through the enemy deployment zone, racking up four Carnies, two Hive Tyrants, thirty Genestealers, three Biovores, and two Berserker squads.

One Storm Claw Biker (Sarge) rolling thirty seven armor saves and going on to decimate four ten-man squads of Tau Fire Warriors and a Devilfish.

One Long Fang with Lascannon blowing two Falcons, a Wave Serpent, and a Monolith out of the skies as the last model on my board.

One Wulfen striking down five Grey Knight Terminators in two combat phases and living, then going on to drop another ten Grey Knights in powerarmor.

Long Fang Sergeant standing tall against ten Berserkers and killing them all, and surviving.

a single scout surviving and killing over 3 rounds of combat a close combat orientated autarch then captured an objective winning me the game

(also i often find that the cheapest things that u buy just to fill up space left in the army list often prove amazing useful)

My favorite victory ever is going to make me sound like an ass.

Back during 4th Ed when Chaos Defilers could barrage fire, I fielded three in a tournament. I had three noise marine squads and three daemonette squads and a super killy Chaos Lord with a super killy retinue.

My first round opponent is an twelve year old kid playing Smurfs. At first I thought this wasn't gonna be fair and then he started trash-talking. Then it was on.

By turn four, with Slaanesh blessing my dice, the only model he had on the table was his Chaplain. I had only lost two daemonettes. The look on his face was so worth it. Stupid smack-talking twelve year old. For She Who Thirsts!

My favorite defeat was my first ever against 'nids.

I think it was a 'nid zilla list with genestealer support. I didn't even know what to shoot at as far as target priority went. I just freaked out. I remember dropping his uber fex and tyrant, but by the end of turn five, I had no models.

I was amazed at how fast the entire game went.

Long fang leader was the only thing left. Charged a 30 man mob of boys with attached warboss (This was the last ork codex) kills three orcs. He fails to kill anything. He fails a leadership test and I ran him down. then he gets shot by a fleeing rocketeer (his last modle at that point).

And what the hell! A smurfy boy and a deamon lover in the fang! Last one to bag a bad guy buys the beer!

wiplash:But I'm not a bad guy, or an ultramarine

You use there codex. And we think that makes you bad enough for us.

My favorite battle...

Ah yes, way back in 4th Ed, in a super-mega "Gouda Fest" that my old FLGS in Arizona ran once a year.

Teams were set as this:

Good

Space Wolves (me)

Eldar (Craftworld Beavis due to player's strikingly similar hairstyle)

Nurgle (still haven't figured this one out)

Armored Company (VDR'ed entire army)

125th Street Bronx Guard Reg, the Star Pimps (I kid you not, every single model was converted to look like a pimp from Bronx)

Bad

Cheezeblud (6 squads max Zerkers, Daemon Prince w/ every upgrade, Butt-thirster [ how he got that name is another story])

Orkz

Ork Armored Krumpany

Ultramarines (they're evil! I'm telling ya they're evil!)

Slaanesh (KoS responsible for Bloodthirster being renamed Butt-thirster, but again, that's another story right there)

Traitor Guard

Space Toasters

Fish sticks

Bugs

Iron Warriors

Each person brought 2000pts army and we had the Battle of Gouda Heights- an all out slaughter between Good and Evil.

Good gets first turn. We move as far forward, only for CW Beavis to be annihilated on Turn 1 of Bad. Armored C(K)rompanies devastate each other, leaving footsloggers to duel it out.

By my luck I was across from the Butt-thirster and Slaanesh armies. After about 8 turns of carnage, only my Wolf Lord and Venerable Dreadnought are left, back to back, locked in combat with Butt-thirster and Mr. Jackson (the KoS's name, got it mid-game, yet another story). Good Turn 10 rolls up. BT and MJ swing at Bran, wounding with every single attack they had. Somehow Bran makes 12 5+ Invulnerable saves. Dread turns and beats snot out of MJ, killing him. Bran swings thunder hammer at BT, killing him there. Consolidate 3" back to get cover from bead Baneblade. However, Nurgle's Rot suddenly rips across the battlefield, killing Bran and leaving only the Dread. Turn 10 Bad, C'tan show sup and klills dread.

oh and i just thought of my favorite WIN. One day the blood angels were taking an innocent walk and they saw...TAU. they confronted the tau and saw...ORKS. they teamed up and mowed down the orks with artillary. but these werent ordinary orcs... they were fantasy orcs, alot of them were riding wolves and spiders, and they all had swords. they were mowed down... no orcs survived... and i used ... escessivly. eventually the orks gave up and we surrendered them to the dark eldar and slanesh marines so they could be violated. yea.

Ah... what tales can my Company bring to the Halls of the Fang.

In one battle against 'Nids, my Wolves could seemingly do no wrong. The Grey Hunters of pack Sveng held 12 Gaunts and their attendent Hive Tyrant up for 4 rounds of Close combat, felling most of the Gaunts before the survivors were wiped out in a crossfire. The Venerable Brother Volkim unleashed his Assault Cannon on a massive Carnifex, inflicting 2 grievous injuries on the beast and forcing it into cover. Not to be denyed, Volkim charged and fending off it's blows succeeded in felling it before slaughtering the Zoanthropes beyond. And finally, the Broodlord and his retinue assaulted the Jokil's Grey Hunters, losing all but the Broodlord. Despite his injuries, Wolf Priest Ullr stepped forth. The Broodlord wounded 4 times, and on each occassion the powers of the Iron Wolf protected Ullr before he smote the best in twain with a single blow from his Crozius.

As far as defeats go, on one occassion my company found itself outflanked by the traitorous Dark Angels. Despite my scouts destroying their Land Raider and Deathwing, the Ravenwing penetrated my lines and cut me off from the objectives. The opponent is a worthy one, however, and soon I will defeat him!
