Power Fist and Cover?

ok i have a PF sgt. in a plasma heavy squad

i noramlly stick 'em in cover and blast away at the high arour save enemy

but i was facing against a nid army and a fex charged the squad

and the PF said strikes last

while cover says strikes first (i think can't find my rulebook right now)

and we were unsure which over ruled

in the end we said they cancelled each other out and so my sgt. had Initative 4

who prombtly smashed the fex's last wound of it's head and killed it

so basically i ask which takes precidence

Cover (strikes first)

or

Power Fist (strikes last)

oh btw

it was a Anhillation game and that powerfist drew the game for me

that squad is my best squad ever it kills so much

in that game it killed a genestealer squad (with broodlord), a gaunt squad twice, the fex and i think some warriors as well

seriously i would suggest a 10 man tac squad with plasma gun and plasma cannon ;)

thanks

Athiair

There is no "strikes first" and "strikes last" - being in cover gives your unit Initiative 10, having a power fist gives you initiative 1. It just so happens that in this case the power fist ALWAYS has initiative 1, irrespective of whether it's wielder is in combat or not.

I think this is something that has changed since 4th edition.

Charging through cover does not give a bonus to the defender, it penalises the attacker. The attacker strikes at initiative 1, which means they would strike at the same time as the power fists.

That's right.

My understanding is that you only lower the initiative of the attacking model if they had to take a dangerous or difficult terrain test (and if they don't have wargear which negates this rule like grenades for example). The carnifex would have to take a difficult terrain test (allbeit with an extra dice) so would attack at init 1, the same time as the Power Fist.

WarpSpawn is correct. Need to update to 5th edition which fixed this and made it a non-issue.

just in case though, if something else comes up to increase the powerfisters initiative he always strikes at I 1.
