Jethsye
They look nice though you might want to try and put a dark wash/ink on the bolters - the white just seems a little thick and undefined.
Lysimachus
thanks for comments guys! next unit up, Scout Squad Titus: http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/SN850835.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/SN850837.jpg always hated scouts in bright blue/red/yellow armour so done to match desert world bases little close up of Vt Sgt Titus, as full Battle Brother and member of 'The Faithful', still gets to paint right arm black with skull http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/SN850836.jpg C+C welcome, lemme know what you think! cheers Lysimachus
Rob_Loken
Cool, I understand what you mean about scouts being bright colours. They look like they should be sneaking around welldone. And their weapons are a good colour too. You've inspired me to sort my scouts out now.
Boy Miller
Hey bruv, I like em. I get what you mean about the scouts and camo, not sure if they could do with a tiny bit of the main chapter colour, just to tie them in with the rest of the army. Maybe just on the shoulder pad with chapter symbol. I love what you've done with the bolters ;)
Kaar
I really like the feel of those scouts, man. What did you use to make the silencers? Also, with your tactical squad, I really like the overall scheme, but I have to agree with Jethsye, the clean white looks very unfinished. Maybe water down a black wash to give the weaponry a bit more definition? Still though, excellent pair of squads, really forward to seeing more! Captain Pugno
looks good i totally agree with the scouts - Imperial fist scouts have always bugged me
Lysimachus
thanks again for comments guys! @ Kaar: the silencers and targeters were just snipped off the scout bolt pistols, all you need on the sprue! the idea of them is that i can use them as counts as sniper rifles if i want @ Boy Miller: mmm, know what you mean about having a little blue on them, but wasn't sure if it would overpower the brown (as the pad are obviously one of the largest areas on the minis) - think as they're done now i'll leave it, want to start next squad! @ Kaar and Jethsye: fair point about the white. thing is in fluff terms i need it to be a very clean white as the colour is supposed to represent how the warfare they make is holy and righteous. thing is if i give it a wash to shade it i'm worried they'll look dirty gray rather than holy white. anyone got any suggestions? thanks all! Lysimachus
Hi all! Another update: Assault Squad Demas http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/SN850838.jpg few closer-ups Vt Sgt Demas himself: http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/SN850841.jpg Battle Brothers: http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/SN850840.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/SN850842.jpg as always, C+C welcome, particularly if anyone has any suggestions about the making the white look more defined without making it look grey! Thanks, Lysimachus
mitchell93
Grey undercoats and a few layers of thinned white will make it allot more crisp, trust me when you paint a templar army undercoated black you pick up white tips quickly. Very good painting by the way.
Lysimachus
finally, another update, devvie squad, seems like they've taken ages! Devastator Squad Herodion http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/devs.jpg and again, a few close ups: first, Vt Sgt Herodion, very extensive bionics due to a plasma cannon exploding next to him! http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/devsgt.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/devsplas.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/devsml.jpg (that last one come out a bit dark, when camera got more power will try again!) as always, C+C welcome! g0atmilk
just a suggestion! the dark angels upgrade box thingy has a bunch of shoulder pads with swords on them. they might come in handy with your chapter badges, so you dont have to freehand evvvery one of them! also, i like these allot! Lysimachus
thanks g0atmilk, actually yeah i've got that set, can't see very well on the pics but all the Vt Sgts have got the embossed sword badge (except the tac squad sgt, who has a studded pad and the PF with the sword on that!) cheers! Havokas
that dev squad looks awsome man, anything going on the chest of the sargent and why dose the white paint on the guns look so thick? add water maby? i like your army alot
Lysimachus
thanks guys! nic, glad you like, Cap may be a while, got 2nd tac squad to paint, rhino to spray + paint, and the predator is still in the box atm! cheers havokas, as to the white, i know, it's an ongoing issue, not sure how to fix :D its black undercoat, a watered coat of codex grey, then watered fortress grey (or might be the other way round, i forget which is darker/lighter!) then 1 or 2 coats of watered white, not sure what else to do. maybe i should get some of the grey foundation paint, be less layers and might look less thick? any suggestions on this? thanks again Lysimachus
Calimehtar
Great freehand and the overall look of the minis! Can you tell me please what blue are you using for the basecoat,is it regal blue or... Cheers
nicole
You could try a thin coat of grey foundation paint with two thin coats of white on top. I use the grey a lot as a base colour (over black undercoat) under reds, pinks, blues, etc. It helps to brighten the colours without making them fantasy brightness, it also means less coats of paint to get a flat colour. <_<
FuriousFerret
Very simple but extremely effective color scheme! I love it!
Lysimachus
thanks for comments all! @ Calimehtar: yup, regal blue, then a highlight of regal/ultramarine anyway, been a while since i've updated this so... here's my HQ, Captain Erastus of the 4th Company: http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/Cap1.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/Cap2.jpg http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/Cap3.jpg and a little close up of the purity seals around his arm, there to protect him from plasma overheats! :D http://i225.photobucket.com/albums/dd11/simoncherylm/Cap4.jpg on the whole i'm really happy with him, I mean, i'll never win any GD's or anything but he's about the best painted mini i've done so far C+C very welcome as always cheers Lysimachus

Terminatorinhell
haha, its really good, it would come darn close to winning a GD IMO. i love the purity wraps :)
XKhalilX
Captain Erastus looks awesome, those wings on his back are VERY well done. I love the light highlighting on his sword arm, great example right there. I always loved your Emperor's Blade, really great fluff My Steel Wyverns follow the Imperial Creed in the Emperor being a Deity as well, though slightly different. So our chapters should team up and cleanse the stars in the name of the God-Emperor! *raises blade in salute* For The Emperor of Mankind!
Lysimachus
wow, thanks for responses guys! glad you like the purity wrap, i can't take credit for the idea, saw it ages ago on another mini (can't remember where it was though!). pleased with how it came out and was suprisingly easy to do, just cut some strips of foil, wrapped around the arm a couple of times and stuck the seals from regular plastic purity seals on top . @xkhalilx: thanks mate, nice to hear from a fellow Liber Astartes brethren! are your Wyverns the ones that are silver and green coloured Iron Snakes successors? if so, very nice work! not stuck my head in at the Liber for a while, will have to look in again, been thinking about writing up some fluff of some kind of Covenant or Treaty of mutual aid between several of the more religious Chapters, maybe could add your boys to the list? cheers Lysimachus
